Also titled:  "So about the mighty Sandal... WHAT THE HELL DID HE DO?"

When you're near end-game, and you go into that room just littered with wrecked Darkspawn bodies...and then SANDAL is standing amidst the carnage...just smiling...and looking...as though nothing is amiss...

WHAT THE HELL???

Did the Darkspawn try to take one of his runes, and he pulled out some hitherto unknown Dwarven stone-magick, and just annihilate the lot of them?

Is that why he's a savant?  A Dwarf somehow made magical, and it messed with his mind?

My 2nd play-through was as an 'evil' Blood Mage, making every horrible choice throughout the story doing everything short of eating babies (thought the Orphanage would give me the chance, but alas, no)... Yet have to say observing Sandal in that room wigged me out more than anything else I experienced!

As stated in the other thread about him, he's probably just a savant with an awesome capability of channeling lyrium. Which he might have done with darkspawn instead of weapons this time. Didn't know any better way to defend himself.
Results asplode.

Oh, and that's not the most disturbing thing. Loghain in underwear and Morrigan, on the other hand...

A-har!  And I see the "Search" function is now finally working on these forums, so I needn't have started this thread in the first place...

Direct channeling of lyrium... interesting!

He's there so that you can buy health pots and mana pots in case you were out of them.

I knew there would be a merchant at that point, I just didn't think it would be him.  I'm shocked he didn't have unlimited elfroot and lyrium dust.

Enchantment is obviously a feature that was a bolt-on or never got to where the devs probably wanted it.  You can't enchant armor or bows, it's free and only done by one vendor.  At the start there is this big discussion about the tranquil and how difficult and expensive enchantment is.  Some things about enchantment never reached their full potential.

Oddly enough, I wasn't disturbed by it, I was highly amused. My reaction was pretty much: WTF?! OMG ROFLMAO!

To me the most disturbing thing about the game was the voice right before the brood mother and her creepy poem. That stands out as the most disturbing.

Speaking seriously, yes I agree with that...

...the first play-through, I remember by that point in the game saving Orzamar for last, then being in those damn tunnels forever, then finally hearing that voice...  Ugh, it was creepy!

Lol, that voice had the hair on the back of my neck catch on fire, especially after speaking with Branka's Captain, or what was left of her. When the realization set in that Branka had willingly sacrificed her own female followers so that they could become broodmothers...ugh. Creepy is putting it mildly.

Oh god. I made a connection between Ursula and the Brood mother which pretty much obliterated my childhood. The Brood mother is what nightmares are made of. Other than that, I couldn't really bring myself to be creeped out by Branka's captain, not after Oghren made a comment about her getting frisky with Branka.

Sort of a creepy mood ruiner, if you ask me (but much appreciated).

Also, Sandal made me giggle. My friend and I had a theory that he was the Arch-demon in disguise. It would have been the most epic plot twist ever!

Hmm, isn't there also a rumor going around that he was an Old God?

Hehe, I just got to that part, I was just staring open mouthed at the scene and burst out laughing when I talked to him and asked about the corpses and all he says is "Enchantment!" very enthusiastically. That's just creepy. Bioware's just amazing

Playing as a dwarven (noble) woman, I found the realization that came slightly after even worse - the whole understanding of what exactly that creature was, and what it had been beforehand..

+1

The introduction to the broodmother and Hessith's last words make the best 'dark fantasy' scene in the game.

I didn't pay that much attention to it until I heard "spewed in her mouth". I listened to the verses properly then... darkspawn can be so nasty.

Perhaps more alarming than disturbing, both times I've encountered an in-game desire to sleep (Sloth Demon in Broken Circle, and a shade's camp illusion in Brecillian Forest), I seriously felt drowsy enough to take a nap. Awesome use of suggestion, at least in my case.

I agree with the comment that 'mouse' is a bit unsettling, but I wouldn't go so far as to say disturbing.

I actually agree with you here. It wasn't the most disturbing thing, but it was pretty chilling that the whole time he was a demon and your REAL test.

As for the Broodmothers, I read via the Toolset that...

Broodmothers that began as human, they birth hurlocks.

Dwarves birth Genlocks.

Elves birth Shrieks.

Qunari birth Ogres.

So. Be glad that we only faced a dwarven broodmother. Imagine a Qunari broodmother. x.x

I can picture that fight...

*walks into room* "Okay, let's kill the broodmother!
*broodmother gives birth to 10 fully grown ogres*
"FUUUUUUUUUUU-"

I swore I read that somewhere, I thought, in-game.  Isn't it a codex entry or something?
