Hi all! Just got the toolset yesterday and there a few basic things that have me confused.
How do I place objects in a room level? I'd like to set up some cages and I'm not sure how to do that. I looked at a tutorial and the guy in the video was able to place items with ease; whenever I try, the info in the Object Inspector is all greyed out.
Related to the above; are there any differences between furniture/etc and weapons/objects you can pick up? How do I place items that the player can pick up?
And can someone please explain to me how I can get stairs to work.
If any of you know any simple tutorials that cover the above, I would be most grateful! Thanks in advance!

There are levels (the actual terrain that you create in the level editor) and there are 'areas' in which you choose a level and add things to it.
For the most part you will create your level and add models or props to the level. Once you finish with that you create an area and use the level you have created. You can then puit things in that you want to be more interactive and not just part of the back ground.
There are some good tutorials on youtube and in the dragon age toolset wiki. Look at both, (You should be able to do a web search for dragon age toolset tutorials.)

Check out the wiki, especially the tutorial on how to create a module.
Re "the info in the Object Inspector is all greyed out", if you mean the info for your area, refer to the tutorial mentioned above. If you mean the info for a core resource (e.g. creature, placeable) that you're trying to place, that's normal - you can place it but you can't edit it.
Re "are there any differences between furniture/etc and weapons/objects you can pick up?" refer to the info on Placeables and Items.
Regarding stairs, please be more specific, e.g. is your area based on an existing level (which one?) or are you making your own? Without more detail, I can't tell whether you're asking about Area Transition, Pathfinding or something else.

Thanks for the link to the Wiki, but still no luck. I create the placeable, name it, adjust its properties, etc., then check it in, but nothing happens when I click on the room. The object still doesn't appear.

... Aaaand now when I try to create placeables, nothing shows up to check in/out. And it asks for a "resource" when it didn't do that the first time. What does that even mean?

Are you using the wiki placeable tutorial? If you make a new placeable, the first thing that always happens is a popup asking for the resource name. You don't need to check it in to use it (that's for version control later on). Ensure you've made a new module and area first.

Why are you checking it in? In my experience if I create a placeable it is already checked out and shows up in the palette window of the module I am working it. I then left click to select it in palette window and left click to place it where I wish in the are.
One thing you need to be careful of is where your new item is being created in the 1st step of the process. Your item is probably there but just in a different folder than where you expect it.
1st question: Did you make a new module to begin with?

Yes, I made a new module when I started.

Double-check that everything you've done is as per the wiki tutorials (module, area, placeable). The placeable should be selected in the palette first, then just click in the area somewhere. If all else fails, post the properties windows for your module, area and placeable here so we can see what's occurring.

What's happening is now when I try to make a placeable this comes up (http://i52.tinypic.com/o6mzuw.png) and there's nothing mentioned about it in the tutorial.
Then when I make the object (http://i52.tinypic.com/2uo0yu8.png) there's nothing in the palette window, when before there was a little thing with a tick.

Nevermind, figured out my second problem. But here: http://i55.tinypic.com/2cfqfqq.png I have two resources in my Palette Window and neither of them show up when I click on them and then click on the level.

It appears to me are you are trying to put placeables into a level not an area,
A level is an art resource. If you want to put a placeable type of item in a level click on the 'models' icon in the palette window and then choose "plc" (placeable) or (prp) prop. When you put these things in levels they will only be background art attached to the level. People will be able to see it but not interact with it. To place things you want the players to interact with you need to finish creating your level, then created an 'area' and choose your level to attach to the area.
You can then do what you are trying to do (creating placeables and putting them in the area.)

Thank you so much! That makes a lot of sense, thanks for clearing it up.
