Ok so ive was wondering do choices from the first really affect the game or are they more of backstory.

Backstory.

From what I have seen so far mostly backstory occaisionally referenced but there is a carry over character from Awakening. Not clear to me what would happen if they were left at Keep and died.

What I found so far:

- You meet a different version of Alistair depending on what you did with him
- If you put Bhelen on the throne you get a quest on the docks to dispatch the assassins he sent for the last guy in the Harrowmont line

A couple mentions of my Warden the Queen of Ferelden.
Bhelen sends our Carta assassins after Harrowmont's last surviving member.
King Alistair and Bann Teagan visit (saved Redcliffe + kid)
Flemeth thanks champion for saving here life (Killed her in DA:O)
Lelianna seems to be with the Seeker at the end
DA:A
Mention that the architect still lives when saving Nathaniel Howe
Anders and Howe chat a bit

That's all I recall.
Also saw someone on the forums post that you hear something about declining population of pigeons in Ferelden
