Before anything else, what to do about your Tech Problems: Writing up Trouble Reports (NOT INCLUDING diluting this thread)

Welcome to the Dragon Age 2 PC Technical Support Forum.  Before you report a problem with your PC version of Dragon Age 2,  I recommend using a search engine like Google to see if someone has had a similar problem in the past and a solution has already been found.  Do not overlook the pinned / stickied threads atop the forum index page.  Please bear in mind a key thing about this forum.  The Bioware staff may try to address your issues, but most of your posts will normally be addressed by your fellow game players; this forum is an UNOFFICIAL support system.

http://support.ea.com/app/home

You should contact EA Support for official matters.  Instructions on how to access Live Chat Support can be found here.  http://support.ea.co.../detail/a_id/75

If you're having problems, please do NOT reply to this topic.  Rather, please post a new topic in the forum that includes your system hardware and OS information.  Thanks!

You must confirm that your system meets or exceeds the published minimum system specifications.

Operating System:     Windows XP, Vista, or 7
CPU:     1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo Intel or equivalent AMD CPU
RAM:     1 GB RAM (XP) or 2 GB RAM (Vista, Windows 7)
Video Card:     nVidia GeForce 7900 GS / 256 MBs or greater; ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT / 256 MBs or greater - (nVidia GeForce 205, 210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7600, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 8500, 9100, 9200, 9300, and 9400, and AMD Radeon HD 2400, HD 3100, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4550, and HD 5450 and any Intel Chipset video chip are below minimum specifications)
Audio:     DirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectX:     DirectX August 2008
Disc Drive: DVD ROM drive required
Hard Drive: 7 GB
Sound: Direct X 9.0c Compatible Sound Card Windows Experience Index: 4.5

If you have been unsuccessful checking the archives, please mention that when you post your report.  Please start your own message, and reserve this thread to the discussion of the report FORM or purpose or necessity.  Here is the report form to follow.

1. What version of the game are you playing: physical disc or digital download (along with which vendor)?
      Configuration Utility | Game Tab
           * Version Information
2. System Details
      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
           * Processor / Clock Speed / RAM
           * Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version
           * Sound Adapter / Driver Version
      Configuration Utility | Platform Tab
           * Operating System (and service pack, if applicable)
           * DirectX Version

In addition to using the game's own configuration software to collect data, if that utility is working, you can also use this reference:  "Get All the Details on the Hardware Inside Your PC"
http://www.pcworld.c...de_your_pc.html

Details about your problem.
1. What is the nature of the problem you are seeing?
Example: No sound during a particular scene.
2. When did the problem start occurring?
Example: Every time you perform a certain action, after a certain number of hours of play, after downloading the lastest DLC.
3. Where does your problem occur?
Example: Is the problem happening for a specific scene, place, or throughout the entire game?
4. What are the steps in replicating the problem?
As much as possible, try to describe exactly what you were doing when the problem occurred.
5. Have you modified your game in any way?

With credit to Pacifien for her version of this same announcement in the ME2 Tech Forum, and please use standard business writing paragraph breaks, punctuation, and spelling .

It's late, I've been up since the crack of dawn, and I really need some sleep now.  Y'all just remember that this guide is here and that a site: redirector, that points back into here, is the best thing to use with a Google / Yahoo search among the archives, right?

No kidding. He should have stayed up later on other days to have solved these problems before releasing a game that, at least for me, is completely unplayable. I spent over an hour last night with tech support, and guess what? THEY couldn't solve the issues, either. Now it's been kicked up to a "higher level" to address, and guess what? I haven't heard back from them, either.

Meantime, I have a game I bought months ago on pre-order that's just taking up space on my hard drive because it WON'T WORK!

But Gorath's losing sleep! Boo hoooooooooooooooooooooo!

Do you see a "Bioware" by Gorath's name?

Is he not some kind of "official"? If not, his "welcome" sounded like it. Let me know; if he's not, I'll delete my earlier post.

I don't want to slam someone doing a good deed. It's Bioware that's goofed big time.

I've reinstalled the game three times now, and each time it says, "We're sorry, an error has occured."

"There is a problem with your game setup. Please reinstall your game."

What do I do?

There are apparently a ton of new arrivals coming in here who do not, or else don't think of it.  And adding the redirector so it looks into here is new to a great majority, that's certain.

P. S.  The fact is, I'm retired.  It wasn't by choice, and if there was a local Bioware office that was hiring Old Farts, I would sure find them fast.

My apologies for chewing on you. I thought you were a Bioware "official", and right now, I'm pretty ticked at them.

Why? What did they do? I have found DA2 very stable...I am actually quite pleased. Maybe you should post some of your issues and provide ample details as described in the OP, instead of flaming right off the bat.

Dude, I posted the link to the thread right there. Here it is again:

Maybe YOU should also read what's there. Maybe then your sanctimony would make more sense.

I have a question about the unlockables. The promo stuff for the pre-purchase said that it was a "free upgrade to the signiture edition." I pre-purchased the game through Steam, and have used my keys to unlock what I can, but the unlockables that are listed as being part of the signiture edition are not unlocked....why is that?

First of all, I've gone to the "Answer" about how to give the 24 hour live chat. THere is NO email button, word, nothing. I'm so incredibly frustrated. Why should I pay $60 for a game that doesn't work? Why didn't EA get the bugs out before releasing it? There is the "Contact Us" button which also does not lead to an email button or any offer for the Live Chat. I've put in 3 complaints about DA2, not a single reply from their people. Nothing.

How angry do we have to get here? I'm angry. NO support, no button for support that takes me to this mythical live chat. Nothing.

I finally called EA and got this link, which does work: http://support.ea.co...ivechat_landing

Okay, aside from the horrendous DX11 things going on, I have a question about the general framerate of the game.

Doesn't matter if it's DX9 or 11, medium or very high. Framerate will stutter unless I hold down the right mouse button or put the mouse cursor on the experience/ability bar. When I do that, it's smooth as silk. Put the cursor back up on the screen, or release the right mouse button, the animation is jumpy again.

I have never seen anything so... weird. Specs:

Intel i5 750 Quad Core @ 3.67 GHz on Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3
8GB DDR3
Radeon HD 5850
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Edition
1920x1080

I too am having an issue with the mouse and framerates. I've noticed that unless I hold the right mouse button and move the mouse, even if it is just once and no more, the game becomes a bit laggy. It is still playable and I do find myself holding the right mouse button a lot to reorient the camera, so this is a minor problem.

My system exceeds the recommended specs for the game and I'm otherwise having a good time so far.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad 9450 @ 2.66 GHz.
8GB of DDR2 RAM
Radeon HD 5850 (Note: I installed the beta 11.4 driver and this issue existed prior to doing so. Installing the driver did remove the random pauses I would get during NPC interactions.)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
1920x1200 resolution

Please write your own message to list the ongoing programs and processes you are loading to run in th  ebackground, like your AV's name, and anything else.  I suspect one of those.  I also believe this is a poor place to ask, since it is far more general purpose, meaning it (your question) needed to be a new thread . .

For DJB Pace, please do the same, as I have the same suspicion for your problem.

For me the game runs smoothly, no freezing etc... But, from time to time a BUG is stopping me from playing. I can't use right click, this happens during battles. What happens is that suddenly I can't select targets, move with right click, AoE spells are stuck around the character that is casting it, and when I manage to survive the battle with all this problems, I can't loot, move with right click, open doors, and the cursor is behaving as though it is over one of the characters. It looks like a conversational balloon, and no matter where on the screen I click, on the left click it selects random character, and on the right it is making that character talk. Do you know any way to fix this? Thanks in advance..

Please do exactly as the first message in this thread tells you, in the original separate new message of your own that you already posted. Also, please restrict all of your problem discussion to one single message thread.  Shotgunning everywhere as you are doing is merely SPAM, and is against the forum rules.  You can edit the message subject line, and append the added material that a complete problem report requires.

You chose to ignore the opening message in this thread, and the DRIVER causing your problem hasn't been named yet, nor did you choose to name your service pack level, or even fully describe the graphics card. For almost no information supplied so far, how do you expect to get information back?  I would work with you, although this thread isn't the right place for it, anyway, being a general purpose thread to discuss REPORTING of problems, as opposed to DEALING with problems.

I did not ignore the opening message; I'm just simply not as tech savvy as you and thought I'd try giving you all the information I did know (since I was not at my home computer) in the hopes that you could help out.  Even with the instructions you have given I found it difficult to find the additional information you were asking for, and I fully admit that I am not familiar with all the terminology...but thanks for not making me feel even more computer handicap than I know I already am.  A simple you need to give more information about the following would have sent the message across.

When I described the problem to a girlfriend with far less info than I gave you, she simply suggested I look for an update for my graphics card.  The update fixed the problem.

Thanks so much, I know now never to ask you for help.
