Or should I just go for a Warrior?
What is the best way to build a rogue?

pump a minimum number of points into dexterity so you ensure you get updated daggers and put everything else into cunning. extremely powerful critical hits ftw. this is especially important if you're going to do the assassin specialization.

I was a rogue in the first one but then it got really difficult and I was thinking I built my character wrong and was looking for advice before I get started on this game, also it looks much easier watching people play who are warriors

what about health (do i have to or how much should) it raise that? are there decent rogues that you pick up in the game or is it better to be a rogue or a warrior? sorry for the questions I just don't want to mess this up and get like 80% through the game and it gets to difficult again

The basic rogue attributes are cunning and dex still. Funny thing is now it is DW rogues that probably do better with high cunning (increased defense and CH damage). Dexterity is more important for 2H warriors now too because it determines you CH chance.
If you want to lockpick then cunning is essentially. No more lockpicking skills each 10 CUN lets you pick a higher level lock. I am not sure about skills yet saboteur (bomb maker) looks interesting but I have not studied them enough to make decisions.

I've played dw rogue and 2h warrior to level 8 or so, and while it may not be far, i did it on nightmare - rogues are godamned awful at that point honestly. they kill stuff quickly, but tend to die so quickly it's not even funny (46% dodge my ass, that tooltip has to be wrong >.<).
for nightmare at least if you are planning on trying that - go archer.

I am watching the game be played right now on hard difficulty with a mage and after a couple deaths, and a couple restarts with much cursing (but no deaths) on the hard difficulty, i doubt i will be going on the nightmare difficulty, the person playing right now is a better gamer than i

I'm a bit confused on how to build my rogue as well; I've been dumping 2 dex and 1 cunning for each level; not sure if that is the way to go.

i did 2:1 for awhile and then switched off to 1:1 (every level you go from 2:1 to 1:2, vice-versa) and it seems fine to do that. once you unlock your specializations, you get specs that significantly increase dmg, at which point you dump everything into cunning jk maintain balance...

no, that's what I'm doing too, at least for a DW rogue like Isabela. It's better to increase damage and critical chance. if your warriors/tanks are doing their jobs, she won't be hit too often anyway.
I'm doing 2 CUN/1 DEX for Varric though. He will be my lockpicker

*spoiler*
For what it's worth, the best rogue armor pieces require 31 DEX/31 CUN, and the best rogue weapons (bows or daggers) require 41 DEX, no CUN requirement. So take that for what you will when building. The best locks in the game need, however, a 40 CUN to open.

So what you're saying is basically that every rogue is going to want 40 each of dex and cunning, and beyond that to taste. My guess off-hand is that warriors and mages will have similar stat requirements on their gear, except maybe they won't need more than 31 will or con. interesting.

I was wondering if bows were as weak in DA2 than in DA1 compared to daggers.
I never found a good bow then that could outmatch 2 epic daggers... I would love to try to "not" be assassin and more ranged, but I don't want to realize halfway into the game that I made a mistake.

Been alternating 2/1 point combos between Dex. and Cun. every level. 2 pts Dex and 1 for Cun one level and 2 for Cun and one for Dex the next. I'm also thinking of adding one point of Con. once every 4 or 5 levels. What do you guys think?

@Kriss_T0ff: Bows rock in DA2. They're slower than daggers but pack more of a punch, both in terms of damage and force, which is good for a bit of inherent crowd control. And three abilities in the archery line can be used in cross-class combos, which is nice.
@soteria: Some weapons, amulets, rings, etc. provide a bonus to lockpicking. If you have a 32 CUN and find a belt that, say, gives you a 25 percent bonus to lockpicking, then you'd be set for opening the most difficult chests. Other pieces of equipment provide a bonus to cunning, too.

My Duelist Rogue with 80% defense against Boss/Lt/Minion does okay. Kills like a beast to boot.

archer is by far my personal favorite because you can deal melee and range damage
also bows do more damage than daggers i think

I went to the Black Emporium, bought the respec potion, and dropped Miasmic Flask. Right now, I've got Evade and its upgrade and Subtlety. That seems to be enough, for now, as far as having a panic button and managing aggro is concerned. Everything else is going into the Archery and Assassin lines.
When I build a dual wielder, I think I'll focus on Sabotage and Duelist, along with the obvious.

Archer are the best. I still key Miasmic Flask. The stun is useful especially when you have others with disruptive attacks.

I use Fenris to stagger lots of stuff and my rogue is mostly cun with enough dex to equip weapons. Pretty hilarious nearly 1 shotting a boss with explosive strike on a staggered foe. If you push cun and have assassins you can have massive criticals and you a lot of your passives and upgrades force crits so it just tears through ****. I had to jack the difficulty up to nightmare because things were just dieing to do fast =\\

One of the rogue synergies causes an automatic critical hit on stunned opponents. Miasma flask is just the tip of the iceberg in stuns for rogues.

I have to say I am really not doing too well with my rogue so far. I went for archery and distributed points evenly between cunning and dexterity.
Hit points are low so it takes almost nothing to die (high cunning doesn't seem to help either). Stamina is low so I run out of stamina all the time. These two are understandable I suppose when I don't invest in con or wil. But my damage also seems quite pitiful, and I don't yet meet some of my gear requirements so I HAVE to boost dex/cun. Or am I expected to focus on 4 stats at the same time?
I'm guessing (and hoping) that all this gets better with more levels and better gear (I am still pretty much in starter gear). But I don't have much patience for the current gameplay where I have been forced to kite a lot to survive. And to work out when the next wave triggers so I can avoid that - that just seems like a silly mechanic.
