As the thread suggests, wondering the best time to go...
Did you guys go to Sundermount before or after the expedition?

Why wouldn't you go? Best to get companion as soon as possible so game won't mess up their attribute, Sebastian is useless because he has only 19 cunning when I got him...can't even open standard locks, ugh...

Yea well I didn't know when the 'norm' to go was.

Well, basically, the way the game is set up, you can do all the quest other than the "advance to next chapter" quest. Alot of side-quest will be lost if you don't do them in the chapter they show up on.

I don't understand how to know when the chapter ends/starts, or what's in the 'chapter'.
Is it just do EVERY quest until the Cas. and Varric dialog starts?

Well I call it chapter, but its basically the time jump, the quest that move you into the next time period will always ask if you are ready to move on, so yes just do every quest, and look out for the one that make you go into time jump.

Well the main quest to go on the next chapter would be from act 1, the deep roads so do everything else besides the deep roads I guess just started

You know I dont think companions are auto leveled. I tested this out by using the exp glitch after you lose aveline in the first arc. I got my party to 50 and then when I got aveline again she had 138 points for me to distrubute.

Have you tried doing it in the prologue before you meet her? Because so far, whenever I get a new companion, all their attribute points are already spent.

I went to sundermount during Aveline's "ambush quest" since we were already in the area. I am just having fun exploring Kirkwall right now and hope to tackle all the sidequest before going on the expedition. Wow Kirkwall makes Denerim look like a truck stop.
I would hazard a guess that the "time jump" may be quest that are set up in the start of each Act? Like in Act 1, you and your sibling talk about trying to get in on the Deep Roads Expedition.

I have done all the main quests, all the secondary quests and all but one side quest. That's the one that has you finding the Iron bark, the Dragon's fang (?) and the Spider silk. I've been to the marshes over and over and I can't find the Dragon or the Spider's silk. I am being kept from going to the deep roads because of these two ****ing things. Where are they? Please help! :-(

The spider silk can be received while doing the Magistrate's Order's side quest (you get the quest near the chantry).

The Dragon Fang can be found when you do that Bone Pit quest to see what's been killing the miners or w/e, the Dragon Boss at the end of the quest drops it.

The respec potions work on all the companions as well. I turned Fenris into a 2hander tank with one, because I was tired of Aveline complaining about my roguey ways.
