I have the settings as low as possible (even though i have the recommended system specs). About 75% of the time it runs like a dream, but every few minutes it'll freeze for like 30 seconds. Sound will continue, and the game will eventually skip forward to where the sound is at... You can see how this might be a problem during cutscenes. It happens during regular gameplay, as well, but even that doesn't annoy me quite as much as missing half the cutscenes in a game where story is so important. I can't play the game like this. Has anyone come across this problem and found a fix?
Game keeps freezing...

The forum software wasn't designed with decent error-trapping routines. When it is badly overloaded, such as right now, it is likely to show any number of several incorrect error messages, as well as the only right one, about the overload. When it happens, wait 20-30 seconds, then REFRESH (Reload in Firefox), and keep on repeating that until it catches its breath and does what it is supposed to.Mlow44 wrote...

Hmm, same issue with me. I switched from DX11 back down to DX9 but the intermittent freezing still occurs.
Anyone still having freezing issues running DX9?

If it's a good one, it would be really great to get something locally accessible. Very few forums similar to the Social Forum Site are comfortable with links to places they have no connection to, and frequently will erase links such as yours, so why not do a file import into a text editing program, then a copy-paste to here? That would be great.

CPU: Intel i7 920 (2.66 GHz)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770
RAM: 6 GB DDR3 1600MHz
OS: Windows 7 Business
I'm having a similar issue, however it only seems to be occurring during cut scenes. The game runs great until there is a cut scene then a few seconds into the cut scene the game will freeze then crash. If i'm in windowed mode the game will recover after about 30 seconds then proceed to crash again and loop crashing. In full screen mode it will crash and be unable to recover.
I have tried running the game on every setting from Very High to Low, with and without anti-aliasing, vertical sync on and off, Direct X 11 and 9, Windowed and Full Screen. I have also tried with several different video drivers including the most recent drivers and the most recent beta release (as per the forums).
Any help would be appreciated

What background programs / processes / services are you running? AVG? GamerOSD? Kaspersky? SmartDoctor? Xfire? Get rid of as much of that as possible. Use Avast, not AVG.

The only things that are running in the background are MS Security Essentials and steam.

For steam, right click on he game, select property, and disable the In game Community.
That causes my game to crash after a while. With it off I can play for hours on end. Maybe that is what is causing your issue.

I think it might be a memory leak in the DX11 renderer, the way it behaves seems like it's doing a garbage collection, been watching my cpu usage, it spikes core 1 (I have a Quad core) and the game smooths out as soon as it drops back down.
Going to try running performance monitor on my 2nd screen to watch the threads/memory used by the DA2 process, will report back what I find.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. My lappy runs the game fairly well except for this random freezing that mostly occurs during cutscenes.

I played all day yesterday with no issues but today I am having freezes quite often. Sometimes they occur in 10-20 minutes and sometimes I can play for over an hour before it freezes.
The funny thing is when I alt-ctrl-del to end the process Dragon Age 2 goes to the menu and says "you have changed to window mode do you want to keep this setting?" It is still unresponsive however.

I was having an issue with freezing every 30-40minutes, I tried disabling my 2nd monitor, and I've seen a marked improvement in performance. so much so that I can use the high def pack and 2xAA (couldn't use any before), and I didn't freeze once in about 6 hours of play. I'm sure this won't work for everyone, (I've no idea why it would work in the first place), but for people with multiple monitors, its worth a shot!

Same issue here. Game slows down to 1 frame ever 10-20 seconds. I find that alt-tabbing out seems to kick start it again. My lockups tend to be every 2mins though, so it is really destroying the dialog. It even locks up reading text boxes.

I am having the exact same problems and its making the game nearly unplayable. Its odd because my comp runs DA origins and DA awakening pretty well but with DA 2 on the lowest settings the game freezes about every 5-10 minutes mostly during cut scenes but also during game play.

actually, I found a way to improve performance with settings set on highest except had to turn the graphics to high + hi texture pack work the best together. Compared to high settings with hi text pack that blurred graphics up close and taxed my system. Direct X 11 working flawlessly here.
