I posted this general but I believe it would be better suited here.

I knoiw there is no spec called Arcane warrior so I was wondering how I would creat the heavy armor Hawke that looked so badass in trailer.

Do I just keep my Strength and Con up? or will there be a robe/armor later on I could use that atleast feels awesome?

I've been reading that Blood Mage/Force Mage running sustainables and using health to cast is the closest we'll be getting to DAO's Arcane Warrior.

Yea it's sortof disappointing that in the trailer they seem to showcase Hawke as a BA 2-hander war who uses the forbidden blood magic....woulda been a cool offshoot class possibility imo.

Couldn't you just get Force Mage / Spirit Healer -> get the passive +10 con bonus , wear Dragon Plate and then spike your strength up to 20 or so and put the rest into magic? You should be able to obtain high levels of defense and also absorption.

Trailer Hawke is a mage (with blood mage spec) in high level mage armor with a staff of parthalan (bonus item you get by signing up for the newsletter)

The Hawke in the trailer seems deceptively like an arcane warrior of sorts because the high level mage armor is not a robe and has some plate pieces on it, and the staff of parthalan looks a lot like a sword/staff hybrid, and he fights with it like its a melee weapon.

Mages in DA2 do indeed switch to melee slashes when fighting an enemy up close, and the design of many DA2 mage staffs include sword/spear/mace bits to make them look more "combat ready".

So "trailer hawke" is indeed possible.

Do warriors/rouges get any blood abilities like the ones you get in the warden's keep DLC? wouldnt mind so much if that were possible. although losing the arcane warrior does make me a bit sad.

Can Mages wear heavy armor? If they can we can still make a Battle Mage... Just need Rock Armor and Arcane Shield. Cone of Cold will work great when we're in their faces doing massive damage.

Notice in the trailer how he was no match against the qunari in melee, so he resorted to using his blood magic spells. A arcane warrior would not have to do that. Also, the armor has he on is high level mage armor.

IMHO trailer Hawke put up good show in melee... for an mage.

An Arcane Warrior-ish build is doable on Merril. By which I mean a mage that mixes it up in melee without too being fragile.

You need the Black Emporium though, to respec her with a potion, and the mage axe they sell there.

Get her blood mage, and AoE sustained from her specialization tree, as well as Arcane Shield, Earth Armor. All this will equal 100% of her mana. Respec her completely out of her willpower and into magic/constitution. I did 2/level magic and 1/level constitution, but I haven't really tweaked the numbers yet. In battle, just run your sustainables, and run into the middle of the fight. Your AoE will proc, and you will be doing decent damage with that mage axe. You can still cast spells if you want to, and you can toggle the blood mage sustained on and off to potion up if needed. I've gotten through most of Act I with this without any troubles. This, paired with my 2h warrior Hawke tank is doing very substantial AoE damage. But I have yet to try this on hard, or try this with a blood mage Hawke.

You will not be able to tank a ton like the AW in DAO though, as you are more of an AoE swarm killer.

There are, however, 2 glaring problems with this build. The first being that the AI will not move you, and will always shoot from ranged with the mage axe, so you have to reposition Merril yourself a lot to optimize damage with her AoE. The second is that you have to constantly put up with Merril's complaints about being out of mana: ALL. THE. TIME.

I want that spell on the trailer

*tearing qun's into two parts*

apparently it's a default cinematic for the 1st few minutes of the gameplay (varric telling lies about us on cassandra) am I right?

That spell you are referring to, is known as a finisher move. I've no idea how to activate them, but I assume, in certain cases, it'll show up. Probably plot related deaths or whatever. But yes, it appears within the first few minutes of gameplay.

So I do not need to put points in strength to get that armor for my mage?

The end game armor has 3 versions: Warrior, Rogue and Mage. They look like the character creator armor. Other than that if you are a mage you will be either wearing the gear from act 1 or robes. I have been unable to find any mage gear that was not a robe except for the end game armor you need to find (ie kill high dragon, etc.).

You *could* pump up your other stats to wear something other than robes, but you would be weakening your caster a lot by doing so.

I think if you go to her tactics and change her from Ranged to Aggressive, that will fix that problem.

That's the perfect excuse. "Oh no guys, it's just Varric spicing the story a little bit. No uber cool spell for you!"!

I'm kinda pissed... only reason I rolled a mage first was to get awesome armored geared, melee some enemies and finish them by ripping them apart... sad

Don't know if it has been pointed out just yet but that was the Arashock, Quinari leader, not a demon, in the trailer. I for one am not looking forward to fighting him, but we may have to.

Speaking of Arcane Warriors, does anyone know if Healing Aura works while Blood Magic is active? It's not an activated heal per se.

Yes but they can't be the trailer hawke, that Hawke is in the warrior champions armor set, so they would need to somehow be able to crack the game to make their mage champion armor set be the warrior look. As to the healing aura with blood magic it depends, the whole can't be healed by normal means can mess you up.

Also thats not a demon that is the Arashock of the Qunari.

Trailer Hawke is not wearing the warrior Champion's armor set. Note the fur ruff and the ragged ... partial skirt thing, and the absence of the red scarf business from the warrior set.
