So by now most of us probably have realized that we lose one of our siblings at the beginning of the game and Aveline loses her husband. Did anyone else just not feel much in these scenes?
I remember in DA:O playing as my Cousland, I actually felt more shock or sadness upon going through the castle and seeing all the NPC's you were introduced to killed. Also I think Mama Cousland's acting was good in several scenes, like when she walks into the older son's room, or the room where her friend was staying, and especially at the end before you leave.
I feel that DA2 just threw you into the middle of a chaotic scene and the characters were all so unknown to the player that there was not much emotional impact. Maybe if the game started in Lothering and there was more of a backstory/attachment I would have felt differently. I was just left disappointed that I didn't feel more, even though I wanted to....
Emotional Impact Lacking compared to DA:O?

Yup I agree but later in the game when you talk to mama hawke/ aveline they express the loss of their loved ones more so than at the beginning. But I agree, the emotional scene didn't carry as much weight as it should've.

Yes, the beginning probably could have been more emotional, but at 4hrs in I did special quests for Aveline and for Mom/Beth, and I got sucked in bigtime. To my Hawke, those three ladies really feel like family now, and it was definitely reminiscent of what I loved about DA:O.

The mother really didn't sell the death of the sibling...Hawke on the other hand did. Dunno why people are stating otherwise. When the simple act of Hawke (male or female) closing his/her eyes and lowering their head caused an actual tug at my heart...I had to say I was surprised. Because before that in the demo I agreed that it wasn't that emotional.

How much do people want from the very start of the game? Kid dies, mothers very upset but their surrounded by dark spawn so theres no time for length mourning. Besides. the way she snaps at you, saying its your fault hes dead, how could you let them die, really hit home at me.
But yeah, they do show that mother is stuck on her sons death even a year latter so its not like its a forgotten moment.

It gets better. But yeah I kinda felt like I was watching that horrible Last Airbender movie again during the beggining.
If you've seen it you know what I'm talking about.
