Arrgh.
Really? It is like you people see the various outline of a soapbox and you want to jump on it. It is like someone is only reading a couple words, and then ignoring the rest of the post.
Noone is mad about any romance options. They are great, they are inclusive, and it is a huge step forward. I wasn't planning on romancing Anders this time through, so, when the dialog showed wheel came up, I DID NOT CHOOSE A HEART. But, I got a big steamin' pile of rivalry points.
That is, from what I could gather from reading THE ENTIRE OP, that the poster was annoyed at. I find it annoying as well.
It has nothing to do with sexual orientation or anything. Just your companions getting all mad that you don't want to make the nug with two backs with them.
Then you should have this in the first place, not: "THE GAME IS FORCING ME TO BE GAY OH MAKER HELP!"
Which is what it came off as. That said: Anders hits on EVERYONE like that. Male or Female Hawke. Doesn't matter. And you can get out of it without taking rivalry points. When he first says anything to you in that scene, where he hits on you after helping with Karl, then select the Direct option on the bottom wheel. No romance, no rivalry points.
If you do take the hit it is RIDICULOUSLY easy to get Anders to full friendship with the hit. I took that hit and we were at 100% friendship way before the end of the game.
Also: Fenris does not just hit on you out of the blue. Played that part with both a male!Hawke and a female!Hawke and he didn't hit on either one. Well, only my fem!Hawke after I selected the flirt option.

You pick the option with a HEART and act surprised Hawke acts giddy?
...the mind boggles.
See that nice broken heart icon? Use it. You won't ever have to deal with flirty dialogue again once its used.
Rivalry path is better for Anders crazy self anyway.
And I assume you were as annoyed with that stupid half smile Hawke gives Isabela as I was. I couldn't even control that.

Well actually Isabela and Anders are suppose to initiate the romance even without picking any heart dialog options. A dev said that's what they decided to do.
I know it's true for Anders. He will start the romance if you pick that diplomatic option in the first conversation after he's told you about Justice. Otherwise, if you pick a different dialog option there, he won't start the romance, and then instead he will start ranting.

Yeah but Hawke doesn't react positively or negatively until you pick the heart option.
I've done the Anders romance several times with M!Hawke. M!Hawke's not flirty until you pick the option with a big old heart.
And you have the choice between two hearts and one broken heart.
...It's not rocket science which one you should pick if you don't want a romance.
Hell Hawke can turn down Anders right away. Hawke's forced to have some stupid damn goofy look on his face with Isabela.

In DA3 BioWare should have a pop up message appear when you click the <3 option saying, "You have clicked the option to initiate the romance/flirt with the character. Are you sure you want to proceed. Click YES or NO." And then just to make sure they're not forcing you into anything, another yes or no popup message.
And yes, Ish, the gay burns. Brightly.

yeah but I cant be friendly towards my NPC's without them gayin it up. My brother is gay I honestly have nothign against it I just wish it wasnt forced upon me when I am trying to get into a character and story line. IF I choose the broken heart they end up not liking me... and I wasnt talking about hawke I was talking about Anders. If I am nice to him at all he starts talking about how cute and scruffy I am lol wtf. its all good, just not my thing =-(
Just pick the broken heart.
Seriously.
It's 15 rivalry points which are easily made up. You have nothing to complain about .Your Hawke isn't even mean to Anders he just says "not interested." everyone isn't going to smile and nod when you reject them. He won't bring it up later.
Really there's a way to avoid the gayin it up. Don't pick the overly nice options or if you do pick the broken heart.
You aren't forced to flirt with Anders. Nor are you forced to watch your Hawke leer at him like an idiot.

Am I a terrible person because this bothers me? Is there something wrong with me because my vision of bad ass brooding heroes is slightly tainted when gayness is implemented. I honestly have no ill will I just want your guys opinion. I really don't hate, just wondering what you guys think? Why would this slightly bother me? I guess its because for me it emasculates my manly man heroes a lil bit. Whats your guys take on my opinion?
No I don't think your a terrible person. I think your a bit overdramatic over something that is easily avoided. Ra forbid you pick the broken heart option and continue on. Like I rolled my eyes at Hawke's stupid leering grin and continued on.
Then again I do get sick and tired of the double standards.

Yeah it's petty of me but whenever I hear about people complaining about easily avoidable dialogue I get irritated. You can shut him down without "tainting" your Hawke. Meanwhile my Hawke has that stupid leer on his/her face even if it's completely out of character.
Edit: Not at poster I quoted
And I'm not even going into the forced railroading with Shepard and those damn irritating Asari. *grumbles*
And you have straight options. Unless of course a male and female in a relationship is somehow not heterosexual anymore? I must've missed that memo.
Ignore my bitterness.
