I'm not gay. It's just annoying because of the character breaking and double standards.
A guy hits on another guy and it's a big deal. A woman does the same to another woman and it's perfectly fine. The guy hitting on the guy can be immediately shut down, while the woman can't be. Yet somehow the f/f version is A-OK?
I would agree with you about it being irritating and being forced into flirtaous dialogue if it was actually true. But it's not. Anders hits on you and you can shut him down. You choosing not to do so isn't the same as the game never letting me choose not to leer at Isabela.

Also, as previously stated, I just finished the quest to save Keran from the blood mages. After doing so, I went to talk to Anders at his home base, and he was straight up hitting on me. When I shot him down, I gained 10 rivalry points with him, and now he's pretty much perma-pissed at me.
So yeah, I get it, it's possible, but perhaps you shouldn't make it feel like it's being shoved down my throat? ... figuratively speaking of course.
It is very easy to avoid a romance with Anders. I know that you get pigeonholed at one point, but don't worry about it. You can totally avoid the rivarly points. I have played as a FemHawke, but I think the options are the same. There is one point where you get two heart and one heartbreak options while talking to him. If you shoose the middle one, i.e. "This is a little sudden", he will say that he doesn't want a relationship b/c he would only end up breaking your heart. No rivalry points gained there, and you don't have to beat him away with a stick afterwards either. No more pigeonholing, just never choose flirt options with him from then on. My character is romancing Fenris, and is at full friendship with Anders as well, and he never hits on her
As for Merril, you have to get the friendship/ricalry above 50 to get things going.

I to was given a 10 point penalty for being repulsed by Anders advances. I know a few people who subscribe to Anders and Fenrises lifestyle and none of them stand on a soapbox twisting peoples arms to agree that there choice is indeed the correct one.

This is my experience as well. I tended to pick Diplomatic, which led me to the 'pigeonholing' with Anders early on. I just went for the middle option as well, and while it avoided the Rivalry hit, it also didn't seem to start the romance. None of my companions mentioned him and he wasn't showing up in my house or whatever.

You can easily evade that situation with Anders if you select the heart-option by following it by the diplomatic one. No rivalry, no romance.
I don't remember seeing that option, after his rescue Karl quest when you talking to him in Darktown. I play as straight Male and it's end up he's flirting(I didn't ask for it), as for the option there is only two heart-option and one broke heart-option.
Isn't that look like the game forcing you to select one of heart option If you want to let him down gently?
I find it funny...yet disturbing, how'd this become different person Anders in Awakening wasn't like this at all, no homosexual-attitude.

Putting aside the fact that being gay isn't a 'lifestyle', rivalry points aren't a penalty - they're part of the path to a perfectly legitimate relationship (romantic or not) with Anders. Even if you're trying to be friends with Anders instead of rivals the small rivalry gain at that point makes little difference and can easily be reversed. It's realistic for someone to be a little hurt when you rebuff their advances, and ultimately that one section of conversation makes little difference to Hawke's relationship with Anders (other than that he doesn't hit on you again if you turn him down).
The only soapboxing/arm-twisting either Fenris or Anders truly do is on their opinions of mages. That brief moment of Anders flirting is a tiny, insignificant part of the game as a whole. It's only as uncomfortable as you make it. I don't especially enjoy having Isabela flirt with my gay male Hawkes, but that's just her thing and it's only a tiny portion of the game, so I put up with it.

My, my. What's your lifestyle?
You'd prefer if all queer people were docile or afraid of offending you just by breathing. I bet those who don't respond to your hatreds help you feel right about yourself.
Avoid the heart-icon options and get off your high-horse. At "worst," you now have the tiniest taste for what queer gamers dealt with whenever we had to reject overeager opposite-sex npcs in BioWare games. Albeit, the difference between us and you is that your choices still aren't being diminished and excluded. Pity, though, if you feel like your gay-hating privileges got counted for less. Pity that.

Pretty simple, the initial conversation with Anders has a diplomatic opportunity without resorting to the heart icons, even if there is a script error somewhere and it triggers, there is even broken black and read heart responces to trigger as well. Who cares about a few rivalry points, you can get more than enoughback to hit 100 friendly or 100 rivalry is even better!
Suck it up, and don't click the bloody romance icons if you don't want the romantic reply.
