20 pts in will, max magic, and base everything else??
I keep debating if I want the primal line, or make a buffer mage.....I love healing spells, heroic aura...I took the ice line for cone of cold.... worth it to get the fire?
Can DAI Mage stats work for DAII?

From what I've seen so far (only lvl 8), all the mage robes have magic and will requirements, if this trend continues throughout the game I would say that no, DA:O mage stats will not be preferable in DA2.

mage in DA: O = all magic
mage in DA 2 = Magic + will
If you put will on your DA: O mage, you were doing it wrong.

I've been just adding magic. I do the minmal pts for willpower if I need to upgrade armor. How much better is the higher level mage robes? Is it even necessary to wear?
I know one thing, if my mage gets knockdown and surrounded I'm screwed reguardless. I can't even get back up to cast. I just get pummeled.
Well I'm gonna try to add just magic and see how it goes. I'll try and use belts, rings, and amulets to boost other areas.

My main concern after playing for a while is the issue of health. You never gain any on level up, so you have to invest points into constitution to raise it. But according to the guide, the best staves need 42 magic and the best armor needs 32/32 magic/willpower.
This creates a problem in making sure that the mage has minumum requirements for gear because you have to worry about how much you can add verses an as yet unknown expected final experience level (I've been hearing between 20-25, but no one knows for sure). This wasn't so much an issue for DA:O because you gained health on levelup, but in this game it's far more critical.
There was even one 3 part fight with a freakin' mage at the end that I had to play 4 times (on normal difficulty) because the mage kept hiding and spamming an AoE lightning spell while everything else was also attacking. That spell alone could kill my mage and Anders in one move.
Does anyone know how to make a good mage that has the required magic/willpower stats but isn't such a pathetic glass cannon that they can be taken out by ONE FREAKIN' SPELL ON NORMAL?
