among a few other small glitches i've noticed throughout my frist five hours of da2 (PC, win7), this one is the most annoying.  usually happens when i've been playing for thirty minutes or an hour, but i'll hover over the doors, and they won't highlight blue, and don't open even if i try clicking them.  wasn't really much more than an annoyance until now.  usually i just restarted the game, and the doors that mattered were still usable (although some doors to random rooms still never worked).
anyway, i just got into the ruined passage, fought through the huge chamber full of spiders and corpses.  but now, i can't get through the door to the little golden arrow.  i've already tried going around it, but i hit another dead door on the opposite side as well.... i'm extremely frustrated >_> please give me any suggestions you might have.  i've already googled it, using multiple keywords, and came up with nothing.  but... i don't expect many, if anyone else is even having this issue, to have noticed or cared.  especially not on the second day :pinched:

I heard one solution to the "highlighting" problem was to select another character in the team. But I'm unsure if this is the same issue.

There is an issue with the highlighting that we're working on BUT I'd just like to emphasize that there are many doors that cannot be opened throughout the world so be aware of that. In the main room of Ruined Passage, only one of those doors should open and its not the closest one to the quest marker (I want to say its the East side)

I've had this bug occur on characters, doors and even the high dragon in the bone pit who will not show a cursor when he's ded.
During the fight with the high dragon it gets even worse, because I lose targeting reticules for the entire crew, and can't target the small dragons even after changing players.
The fact that EA released not 1 but 2 patches on release day says it all.
DA2 is a BETA game,,, that's still not fit for release and it was not tested properly.
EA gets our money and we get a broken game.

There are times where somehow the cursor seems to be stuck. Usually when I tried to use potions within the inventory as opposed to the quick bar. When I close the window the cursor seems it is still stuck in inventory mode. It will not interact with anything in game.

Usually switching over to another companion (via the f1-f4) keys, fix it.

Others have said that right clicking on the portrait of another companion can also work.

Might not be the same problem that you guys are having.

You're making a lot of assumptions here. Just because it seems some area should be accessible doesn't mean it actually is.

DA2 makes heavy use of repeatable areas. You might visit the same 'area' multiple times with different types of the level accessible and different doors or area transitions available at different visits.
Just because there's something on the map behind that 'door' or 'stone' doesn't mean you get to actually go there this time.
In fact the only unique areas that don't have multiple incarnations are the Lothering prologue area, your estate from acts 2 & 3 and one micro cave from the Forbidden Knowledge side quest.

A good way to find out if you are supposed to be able to go someplace is holding down the tab key. It will highlight all interactive objects.
So if a door has no highlight at all, consider it a wall for all intents and purposes of this visit. If it has a regular 'door' cursor feel free to open it. And if it has a 'lock' icon you either need to find a key or trigger some script event for it to open.

Well, if you're talking about the same dungeon I'm thinking of, almost every 'room' in this dungeon has multiple entrances (2 to 4). Typically some or all of the doors are locked or inaccessible so that there is only one route available to reach your goal.

If you can't enter from one direction try a side route ;)

Quitting game and loading from a previous save, got the doors open for me again.
I have had to do this type of reload a couple of times. Once before because a monster didn't treasure drop a key in Fenris's Mansion. At first I thought it was some kind of puzzle, like the floor positioning in Dragon Age Origins to fight the Dwarven dragon. Then I just realized it was a bug and restarted and reloaded from a previous save, and re-fought the monster and got the key.

Stuck? probably a bug, is my conclusion. This is a big, complex program, there will be bugs.

Switching characters and opening doors with them helped in my case.
@TheDoctorMk2: this bug exists and is annoying. When pressing "Tab" (PC) you highlight the door, but you can't click on it or do anything with it.

Unless there is a tag above the door that says "Door" when you press Tab, the doors are not "active" depending on where you are plot-wise.
If you do see a tag but you still can't open the door, then select one of your companions by clicking on their avatar, then back onto your own avatar which will fix it.

That's funny, I read the entire thread and there aren't any posts from you saying you tried any of his suggestions. Dubya, shame on you for trying to be helpful and not attempting your well known skills in mind reading!

I know, who'd have thought - someone trying to give a useful sugestion? Shame on them.

barbie lyncher - honestly, from what you have described (and yes, before you ask I have read the full thread) it sounds like you are trying to open doors that you think should open, but in reality do not.

There are many doors throughout the game that look like they should open, and actually don't.

The area that the map is posted of is posted in this thread is reused around 4 times (if I recall correctly - possibly more) throughout the game and each time different doors are open/closed. Sounds to me like you are simply going the wrong way.

If you let me know what act is is in, where you access it from and if it is for a specific mission I will probably be able to tell you which way to go.

From memory, I beleive some of the ways through it are:
