SERIOUSLY? I go from a difficulty where im basically 2 shotting dudes in normal, if i get to hit them at all, to hard (or whatever the next difficulty level up is) where i get 2 shotted.... that is a sign of terrible balance dude...
WOW the balance in this game SUCKS!!!!

I am playing on Hard as well and my mages (Bethany and Merrill) with no points in Con take far more than 2 hits before going down.

Normal or casual beat the Game a few times then try.

I play on Nightmare, and even the wimpiest mages in the party don't get two-shotted. When you play on hard you're supposed to pause and think about your tactics and how to optimally control your whole party. Try that.

I play on nightmare as well and finished Act 1 without much problem, pick and choose your encounter early on until you hit a certain power level before you take on the more challenging one. And I tank with a freaking 2-handed Hawke...

OP go ahead and play it like an action RPG on nightmare mode.

I've experienced something similar with the difference between Normal and Hard. I originally set it to Hard from the beginning and was doing fine up until the Ogre battle. It wasn't the Ogre that was killing me, it was the endless stream of darkspawn that take forever to kill. 3 versus 20+ isn't exactly a fair fight. I was able to kill everything except the Ogre but by that time I was too low on health, Heal on CD, etc. Switched to Normal mode and killed everything within 2 minutes, barely broke a sweat. Kept it on normal for the next ~4 hours and I'm 2-3 shotting everything with Hawke alone (Warrior, 2-Hander). Seems like a really big jump from Normal to Hard. Maybe I just need to play more but my next play-through will be on Hard for sure.

Dumb answer to the ogre fight, works on nightmare, I laughed while doing it:
Ignore your party, hit ogre, run away when he swings, keep this up but also running to avoid the adds. Eventually his cleaves and AoEs will kill his darkspawn adds, allowing you to focus on him longer and take less time running out of stuff. Takes about 10-15 min on nightmare, works like a charm haha.

Gotta admit i also saw the jump from normal to hard in difficulty, however it just requires a change in tactics, on casual and normal you play like an action RPG and take your 2-hander everywhere and not even look at your stats (unless you play like a madman... ofc) however on hard and nightmare it is advised to pause the game before (and maybe during) combat to administer some needed tactics
Aye, this one is ridiculous, also works like a charm on the arishok
