Well, you all make some very interesting points...

Unfortunately you are wrong.

This is being pretty much universally reviewed as "average" or "mediocre" by most reviewers, not just Adam Sessler.

Hmm...  that's funny.  The whole being wrong part, that is.

The aggregate sites (Metacritic and Game Rankings) are reporting around 84%, which would mean that the game is being reviewed as "Very Good" to "Excellent", for the most part.  So, there isn't a "unversally" in play here at all.

(Ignore the user rankings on sites like that, as it's been reported that a lot of sites have been spammed with troll attacks.)

The important take-away from this is just because you say something is true, doesn't actually make it true.

Honestly, I don't trust anyone that either doesn't like or cant play a real time strategy game. I also laugh at anyone who thinks Fable 2 was a decent rpg.

G4 is a television channel and thus is a business. You can't expect honesty out of something so corporate. Maybe Adam really does like the latest madden rehash or COD rehash over DA2 but thats his problem. There are lots of music "critics" out there that enjoy terrible music and know nothing about music theory or music history. I haven't bought any popular music since middle school. I trust reviewers who I know are similar minded and of above average intelligence. I know this is a generalisation but intelligence and life experience does have a huge effect on personal taste. Also, no being on someone's payroll seems to help people maintain objectivity. I wonder why that could be :)

After watching several of Adam's rants about the video game industry it would seem that he is pretty far from being a coroprate stooge and possibly a smart guy.

Knowledge of music theory and history are not requirements for fans to form an opinion, so it is also not a requirment for a review to form an opinion and write about it.

(Ignore the user rankings on sites like that, as it's been reported that a lot of sites have been spammed with troll attacks.)

That would be a rumor. When the user and critic rankings differ as much as DA2 that rumor is mighty convenient.

I'm playing the same game as Adam Sessler and I disagree. I'm not a "famous" critic though.

Adam Sessler makes valid points, but he also doesn't like RPG, so you have to take his opinion lightly.

x-play is pretty fair when it comes to game reviews.

I find it incredibly sad and hilarious how you people will instantly nod and agree with any critic who gives Dragon Age 2 praise, but the *instant* one of them says it's not that great of a game you turn right around and say his opinion doesn't matter and that he's a nobody.

What the **** is *wrong* with you? Self-fellating a bit much?

Well, considering the climate in the forums in the last days it's reasonable that people who likes the game are overreacting since they have been called in any conceivable way. But you're right. That Sessler is entitled to his opinion being wrong or right and I must say that reading the review he made some point while I completely miss the sense of his opinion about combat and the epicness of the story. Really, I do not understand what he is whining about.

Having said that, there is a valid criticism against him. I don't understand why people wo do not like RPG, RTS or Adventure games in general keep reviewing such genres. For example, I like a lot Zero Punctuation and I laugh a lot at Yahtzee reviews (the Momopurger joke about The Witcher was hilarious) but I do not understand why he keeps reviewing RPGs or fantasy games when he clearly do not appreciate those genres or connect with their tropes.

adam sessler is an arrogant moron with a speech impediment. the only thing worse than his excuse for humor is his revolting face. his reviews are stupid and uninformative he is probably the worst game critic that people have heard of.

It's a well done review. Keep in mind...he didn't agree with the 5 out of 5 they gave DA:O.

Even Game Informer didn't like Dragon Age 2. This is what they said :83/100
"Part of me was disappointed with Dragon Age II. I hoped for an improvement on the original, but it ultimately feels like a step back...."

A game critic that considered ME2 a nearly perfect game and that thought that DA:O sucked.

So he's someone with whom I completely disagree regarding game design.

Good to know.  I'll ignore his opinion in the future.

No worries. I was just talking of a genre that I like and that gets regularly poor reviews since the critic do not like adventure games.

The funny thing is he didn't give Da2 that bad of a review. If you look at reviews across different sites. no one is giving Da2 better reviews then origins.

Never heard of him.  I must have been playing all those games he says are "not that great."

Seriously, why do people keep thinking they can tell me what my own opinion is?

Great game critic, used too watch X play all the time but, he's not all knowing and it's just a professional opinion, make your own instead of taking his word for it.

I usually agree with Adam but I have to disagree on this one. Maybe he just doesn't like the fantasy genre in general. Anyway, 9 hours in I give it a 9/10.

DA2 is this video game generation's KOTOR2, I like both games I just think I had higher expectations. Its not bad, its better, its just different.

I've spent over 10 hours and I'd give it a 7/10 so far. DA:O is a 9/10 for me personally, even having played it recently. So, it's not a bad game, but had the dev length been increased, it would be much much better.

Also it's funny how you mention KOTOR, because KOTOR 1 and 2 are both 9s for me. I think the conversations in KOTOR2 is better and the combat is better, but KOTOR 1 has a better story.

At this point, it's pretty much what I judge all Bioware games on, because it was better than NWN which was the oldest BW game I've played.

I will say this again. Most game reviewers are First person shooter/Action game lapdogs, they suck at rpg games like DAO and DA2 therefor they give bad reviews for things that are in their control...like not bringing lyrium potions... <_<

No I am not a bioware fanboy, but it's a trend I've seen where the usual and monotonous army styled first person shooter that brings nothing new would get some type of B+ to A score, while a new and creative rpg, rts or adventure game would strive to get just a B+.

Sessler has been reviewing video games professionally for close to 15 years, even if many people haven't heard of him he's a respected voice in the industry and usually metes out his reviews with an even hand. I've disagreed with him several times - Fable 2, RE5, and Alpha Centauri come to mind - but he always backs up his opinions with sound arguments.

X-Play is in a pretty sorry state these days but the stuff Sessler writes on his own time is still worth while; I wish his televised stuff was still on the same level as it was when he had Kate Botello around and the station was still called ZDTV/TechTV. But such was the tech bubble.

Really, comparing him to Yahtzee or AVGN is a bit silly. Adam has always written straight reviews, the comedic videos are a whole other thing.
