Yeah and you can be two totally different people.

Hawke is just really stereotypical nice/joker/bad guy.

I don't even know who Adam Sessler is and I don't even really care.

If he didn't like Origins much, then it's no wonder why he doesn't like DA2.

my personal rule of trusting reviews is..............unless a game/movie is almost universally panned or the reviews are so 1-sidedly negative ( like The Last Airbender movie ), I will form my own decision of the game/movie............

adam sessler is an arrogant moron with a speech impediment. the only thing worse than his excuse for humor is his revolting face. his reviews are stupid and uninformative he is probably the worst game critic that people have heard of.

Personal attacks, awesome. The last defense of the mindless.

I'm sure you have perfect speech and look like a magazine model.

Not really, warden is a bit more open than this.

I'm not meaning anything bad but please give your reasons, I only see the warden as the same way as Hawke

Honestly, I don't trust anyone that either doesn't like or cant play a real time strategy game. I also laugh at anyone who thinks Fable 2 was a decent rpg.

G4 is a television channel and thus is a business. You can't expect honesty out of something so corporate. Maybe Adam really does like the latest madden rehash or COD rehash over DA2 but thats his problem. There are lots of music "critics" out there that enjoy terrible music and know nothing about music theory or music history. I haven't bought any popular music since middle school. I trust reviewers who I know are similar minded and of above average intelligence. I know this is a generalisation but intelligence and life experience does have a huge effect on personal taste. Also, no being on someone's payroll seems to help people maintain objectivity. I wonder why that could be :)

After watching several of Adam's rants about the video game industry it would seem that he is pretty far from being a coroprate stooge and possibly a smart guy.

Knowledge of music theory and history are not requirements for fans to form an opinion, so it is also not a requirment for a review to form an opinion and write about it.

Perhaps Adam is a smart guy. Honestly, all I've seen from him are some very unobjective reviews that they have shown on TV. Based on what I've played of DA2, I probably would agree with him on his review.

I agree that nothing is required to form an opinion. I don't recall ever stating that fans can't form opinions without previous experience or education. However, since we are talking about professional reviewers here, I would certainly expect them to have some expertise that elevates them above the lay person. My issue is that things like sellability and personality are more important for a lot of so called "professional reviewers" than knowledge of history and game design philosophy. It is just unfortunate that marketability and professional expertise are not quite in concert with each other in the current games media.

Actually, you think he is.

But Hawke's choices were written exactly the same way as the Warden's.

ratchet and clank is one of the best game series in existence, so I agree with him on that.  Not everything has to be an rpg to be good.

LOL! He did some pretty bad mistakes specking out his characters and his melee chars had little stamina. Also even on normal he thought that the game hard during some battles(and on boss battles) and with the low stamina he just had to keep pressing A to attack(he played only the Xbox version). The recycling of areas was a big problem he said...

Well just watch the newest FEEDBACK here www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/tag/5635/Feedback.html
They talk about Dragon Age2 during the last 15-20 min.

I'm a fan of Adam Sessler, and watch his show X-Play nightly. It's a thing I do - leave work and relax with X-Play and a soda. When Sess says something, I listen...though I don't always agree.

I've accepted that Sessler's criteria for a "good game" is different from mine, and mine his. For example, he displays an almost pathological hatred for all Japanese games, JRPG's in particular, a genre which I greatly enjoy. He derides the derivitive nature in certain games while ignoring it completely in AAA titles like COD: Black Ops - it's his bias at work, and it can't be helped.

Let's just accept that Adam Sessler doesn't have as much invested in this IP than we, the fans, do. The man plays dozens of games a week - it's part of his job. For all we know, he played long enough to discover something he didn't like and stopped there. Giving a bad review to a game I enjoy doesn't delegitimize his opinions to me. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don't. This is an example of the latter.

LOL, agreed.

Really though, sorry, X-Play has been wrong before.

Edit:

Oh, also Adam Sessler did an interview in which he said his reviews are just opinions and he does not actually think it is or should be a deciding factor on whether or not to buy a game, just a point of view on it.  Keep that in mind for any review you read.

I find it incredibly sad and hilarious how you people will instantly nod and agree with any critic who gives Dragon Age 2 praise, but the *instant* one of them says it's not that great of a game you turn right around and say his opinion doesn't matter and that he's a nobody.

What the **** is *wrong* with you? Self-fellating a bit much?

Sessler is a class act, and as far as widley publicized proffesional opinion makers go, he's probably the top of the list for honesty.

Anybody who shouts his word as gospel is just as ignorant as anyone who thinks they have to attack him to discount his view. It's all perspective, and the more of it everyone takes in, the bigger the picture we have of how and where DA2 succeeded/failed.

He found both DAO and DA2 "lukewarm." So how does that make DAO better than DA2?

Uh how many of you have actually read his review? It seemed pretty articulate to me and he seemed to have some perfectly reasonable complaints. He also praised certain aspects of the game. Now I don't know if I agree with him about this single game review or not (haven't got to play DA2 yet as my amazon won't ship my copy till next week), but that doesn't mean I should start trash talking Sessler cause he gave it a decent, not great score. Besides he said himself that while he's giving DA2 a 3/5 he isn't trying to dissuade people from playing it. He wants all of us to play it and judge it by our own criteria.

So yeah hope everyone has at least read his review, and guys he isn't trying to anger anyone. This game just wasn't something he thought was amazing or even as great as other bioware titles. Even then he still calls it a "good" game.

he didn't review DAO for the site and stated he would've given it a lower score, i think what i got tho was that DAO - to him - was better crafted and DA2 is rushed, i dunno i might have to read his review again

'course, i've bought games in the past based on glowing reviews from both reviewers and/or users... and found i disliked the game (cod4 is not a great game), similarly i've avoided games based on negative reviews from both reviewers and/or users... and found i really liked it (odst is the best halo game after the first one, sue me)

how good/bad a game is isn't determined by consensus, but other opinions can help sometimes, especially if you don't buy games often

To be fair on that, on his "feedback" segment, where he did  25 minutes on his feelings on Dragon Age 2, he stated he played it for over 70 hours to completion.

Meh I've been playing for 20 hours now and I've loved every second of it. Literally the only thing I miss is the campsite and being able to talk to my companions when I want, as opposed to when an event triggers their conversation.

God dammit I want to talk to Merrill.
