He used to?

What happen? I thought he still work  for Xplay?

Also, G4 is NOT a gaming channel, hell I don't know  it is anymore.

Yeah, G4 *USED* to be a gaming channel while TechTV especially when it was still ZDTV *USED* to be a tech channel. Once they merged, it became CONFUSION

meh his review seemed pretty fair to me- he complimented bioware on what he thinks they did right and said what he disliked, the review itself was very even handed.

Bioware please ignore all these whiners, the games not perfect but it is bloody good fun.

A game critic that considered ME2 a nearly perfect game and that thought that DA:O sucked. So, maybe YOU live under a rock and don't read the review but he do not like DA2 because it's not old school enough. Quite the contruary. Most negative critics are saying that the game has not been streamlined and casualized enough.

No critics give a **** about BG gameplay unfortunately and most praise the voice over.

Having said that: game critic... is it even a work?

im pretty sure negitve critics haven't been calling for DA2 to be a more streamlined and casualized game

or at least most of them

Its weird, I used to *hate* Sessler from watching him on X-Play. Just so grating and unfunny. However, on Feedback and Sessler's Soapbox I kinda warmed up to him. That said, if he didn't like the first one why was he reviewing the second one? But regardless, this review is from someone who creamed himself over Epic Mickey IIRC, Christ. But hey, his opinion is his own and I can respect that.

G4 is acting odd though, they seem to be hurting right now, notice that godawful OneTrueFan garbage they have running now? I mean WTF. And where is Abby?

All right. I just finished reading his review although I started skipping because of spoilers. But he gave it 3 out of 5 but the narrative, he really seems like it might be something like he was thinking he wished he could have done a 3.5 stars. Or if it was on a 10 star system so he could give it a 7. He didn't really crap on it like a 3 star would get. He was actually pretty fair in the narrative part of it.

He did say he would play it again in a few months so if he totally disliked it and spent 70 hours on it then doubt he'd do that again.

If the game was made by a random developper, it would've gotten 50-70% average score, because lets face it, its pretty much the worse sequel in recent memory.

But since its Bioware...85%! GotY! Editor's choice!

I don't think so since he was the reviewer on g4's site.

He's like the editor in-chief of all of G4's game content now. He's pretty much in charge of everything (game worthy) that gets put on the website or Xplay.

Let's just accept that Adam Sessler doesn't have as much invested in this IP than we, the fans, do. The man plays dozens of games a week - it's part of his job. For all we know, he played long enough to discover something he didn't like and stopped there.

To be fair on that, on his "feedback" segment, where he did  25 minutes on his feelings on Dragon Age 2, he stated he played it for over 70 hours to completion.

Interesting. It's hard to believe he played a game he didn't like for over 70 hours. That's not to say he didn't, of course. If he did, he's got stones. I'd have given up after the first 5, tacked 20 hours onto that, and say I completed hte damn thing.

Well its kinda of a reviewers job to beat the game. That way they can put "Horrid ending" under the cons section.

But that's the thing.. he never said he *didn't* like it.. He said there were things he liked, but things that he didn't like. He also said(in the feedback, I'm not quoting the review right now), that he WANTED to give it a higher score, but he couldn't bring himself to do it when it was taken as a whole.

Taken directly from the review:

"Having now sunk around 75 hours into the game, Dragon Age II is best described as a conundrum: a sprawling and sometimes messy fantasy game that, in places, improves on the Bioware model, while taking admirable risks that don't pay off as well as their initial promise. This results in an experience that, for all my ambivalences, is something I intend to play again, but not until many months from now."

To me, agree or not, that's a more than fair statement to make.. He also states:

The Pros
Characterizations are incredible
Conversations are deeply engrossing
Production design is much improved over predecessor
The Cons
Overall story lacks direction
Dungeon types repeat endlessly
Combat is decidedly uneven

INot at all.  I still play the game.

And what I say is equally true of BioWare's other RPGs.  NWN and KotOR offered similar levels of freedom.

*sigh* Oh, Sessler. I wonder what Morgan thinks.

Well, in any case, I like Yahtzee better than any other reviewer these days. No bs scores, just cruel, sarcastic, hilarious honesty. If he doesn't completely rip something apart, you know he likes it, as with DAO, but he still tells it exactly as it is--"You choose human, elf, or dwarf, and just as you're reeling from all the staggering innovation you choose warrior, rogue, or mage" but he balances it by saying that perhaps it's better to "drop the trousers of pretention" than try to pretend you're being innovative where you're not.

Yeah, I love Yahtzee. Nobody does what he does.

X-Play loves to claim their not biased but they are. They give shooters high scores and RPGs low ones. And they love to rag on a game or praise the hell out of it then give it a 3 out of 5. And some of their reviews aren't even reviews at all, it's just them yapping about who the hell knows what, what they had for lunch for example for the whole game review. G4 claims they're video game and tech tv, they so aren't. Oh well, at least it wasn't Kevin from AotS, I really wanna punch that man in the face.

Yeah, ok, I ranted.

The only critic I trust is Mr. Cranky, though he does movies, not games. Why? Because he realizes that every movie ever made SUCKS and he tells you why. His rating scale is 1-5 bombs (with a nuke reserved for the special cases of movies that are beyond bad)
