Ever since it was first announced to the public. I loved the idea of it and it has not disappointed me

I got hooked after I saw the E3 trailer for ME2. I bought the game the day it came out but didn't really play it until I was on staycation last September and spent two weeks playing it.
I actually threw out a ton of shooters just to make more time for ME2 and I don't regret it.

I've been a fan since the first game, I remember seeing trailers for the game and thought it looked awesome. I tried it on a rental and got stuck on Feros returned it, rented it again months down the road and started over to finish the game. Loved it, bought it on 360, sold it, bought it back and have been a massive ME1 fan since then. Obsessed over ME2, bought it and played it, was a bit disappointed. Looking forward to the release of ME3.

I think I started following it about a year before ME1 released. The early concept demos hooked me (the ones showing the awesome-looking galaxy map and the three-way convo between Ashley, Shepard and Garrus).
I got ME1 on day one, and loved it from the moment Shepard woke up on the Normandy. Just absolutely blew me away.
ME2 disappointed me somewhat during my first playthrough; I did a full run through of ME1 and ME2 afterward, and savored the entire experience as a whole. Was wicked.
If Bioware actually manages to pull off a satisfying finale to the series, multiple endings and all, I'll have to make a shrine honoring the trilogy. Seriously.

Since it first came out. I'm a veteran fan, though I joined the group recently. I was surprised I couldn't register the first game up here.

My friend bought ME1 soon when it came out. I went to visit him and i had instantly buy ME1 too. So, soon after ME1 was released.

My little sister bought ME1 for me in Christmas of 07. She said she bought because it looked like that Star wars game that you are always playing (kotor). Been hooked ever since. So thanks Sis.

Mass Effect was the obvious progression on from the KOTOR games which I enjoyed so much, so since KOTOR came out I have been a fan of Bioware.

I got the game in December 2006. I'd already done a full playthrough before that at my friend's house, though.

I saw the ME trailer and thought it looked pretty gritty; didn't expect much. That Christmas, I got ME from my parents and Modern Warfare from my wife. Needless to say my wife wasn't very happy that I didn't play her gift all that much. As soon as ME went in, I was consumed and the game I expected to play a lot (MW) didn't get much love.

Since ME2's launch. I was very impressed on how much the game improved over the first and it even made me buy the first game just to change my future.

Same as the OP, I think it was the Xbox Original Magazine.

One morning in the December of 2007 I was asked what I wanted for Christmas. I remembered hearing about Mass Effect and that it was from the same people that made KOTOR, so I asked for that.
I was not disappointed, it was one of the finest experiences I have ever had with a game.

Wow, we have some long time fans here. Glad to see we've picked up some more along the way too.
You know what, it may well have been that one.

I ended up buying the first ME on a whim from my local game store. After about two hours, I vowed to play as many BioWare games as possible.

As nerdy as this sounds, I was initially hooked by a Gamestop commercial for the Blackstorm Projector.
Then, I read up on Mass Effect, how it was arguably the best game ever made, and how it would import your persoanl decisions into the next game.
A month before ME2 launched, I bought ME1 and got started.
So, I've been a Mass Effect fan for a little over a year.
