To be honest, Mass Effect only popped up on my radar when that whole interactive lesbian "news report" was shown on Fox. It piqued my curiosity so I went out and bought it.

It wasnt for the reason you might think, I just wanted to see for myself how much they (Fox) lied about it.

I bought Mass Effect 1 at the same time as Dragon Age: Origins, about a month or two before the release of Mass Effect 2. I was anticipating the second game but hadn't ever gotten around to playing the first. I've been a fan since then. :)

I uh... I am slightly ashamed to say that I only got ME1+2 in January this year, and so have only been with you since I started it up.

Same here.

I bought Mass Effect in March of 09. I kind of agonized over the decision because I'm usually horrible at shooters. I'm glad I took the chance.

I did right before the first book Revelation came out.....I love sci-fi so I knew I would like it even before the game came out.

ME1 is the reason I bought my xbox 360 in '07.

edit - was on the boards when it was announced, but was not sure I would like it.  I took Chris at his word.

Saw the ME1 launch trailer prior to its release, and have to say at that point was unimpressed (though I also knew nothing about the game before that point).

Saw a friend of my brother's playing the game during the winter of '07- weirdly enough, it was during a planetary exploration mission. Seeing the scale of the game made me take interest, though at this point I still knew little about the game's RPG elements. I borrowed my brother's copy, and the rest was history.

Little over a year. Really got into it soon after ME2 came out. Everybody over on LucasForums was talking about it so I decided to check some gameplay videos and I was instantly hooked. This was before I even got the game. To be honest, I had never even heard of the first game. I just started on Mass Effect 2 and during the game I found out more about Mass Effect.

I wanted to play it but did not find it anywhere. But one day when I was browsing YouTube, I saw a little ad banner on the side of my screen talking about this huge sale going on off certain EA games. So I checked it out and I ended up buying the digital edition of Mass Effect for $5. I think the sale was going on sometime in November of last year.

I'll be honest; I'm someone who has come late to the gaming scene in general. I looked down on my gamer friends because I was trying to impress my father. Nowadays, I ignore any of the 'conventional' wisdom of the world. Because quite frankly, video games have been a source of great stress relief for me as well as a place I can go to 'recharge' my own creativity.
I first heard of Mass Effect from a friend of mine who played it. I had decided to get an Xbox 360 finally, and asked him what games he would recommend. He said that, considering my preference for action and sci fi, he would suggest ME. I bought the system and the game soon after and began playing it. Unlike most people, though, I played as an Adept the first time through.
I got the system and game around a year ago. Been a fan ever since. Once I finished my first playthrough of ME1, I got ME2 and began playing it. I found the change a bit confusing, but altogether a much better playing experience. Only thing I missed was the variety of armor and weapons.
I've been a fan ever since I began my first Mass Effect playthrough. The depth of story and history that BioWare has fleshed out for Mass Effect is just so encompassing that whenever someone sneers about RPGs, I have to stop myself from pointing out the flaws in non-RPG'.s, usually something like GTA, which I also enjoy.
I do hope that, while the trilogy will be finished this year, Mass Effect games will continue to be a main stay. They're just far too entertaining, and the galaxy-wide intrigue too widespread to be told in a three-game series. I truly hope that BioWare manages to succeed in their attempt to create a successful Sci-Fi trilogy of games that are affected by previous games. If they manage it, and considering the fan base I wouldn't be surprised, than we're in for a wild ride once the final game is done.
To give an idea of how much I like BioWare's style and RPG's in general: I currently own the Mass Effect games, Dragon Age II, and two non-RPG games, GTA IV and Too Human. TH only because I can't find anyplace to sell it. (I did have DA:O and Awakening, but quite frankly I found the whole 'non-voiced' character thing to be tiresome.

Been a fan since I found ME1 in a bargain bin in August 2008. Most epic gaming experience I'd ever had.

I didn't think much of gaming until I watched a friend play a fantasy bow and arrow game...I tried it out, loved it, thought that would be the only game I would play, didn't like the others I saw....same friend bought ME1 about 12 months back, watched him play, didn't like it...wanted to play with bows not guns....Was bored one day, so put ME1 on, gave it a try, couldn't put it down, hurried out and bought my own copy and ME2....I have not picked up the bow game since and have become a hard core gamer...ME1 and 2 all the way :-)

It was hyped up so much that I was eagerly waiting for it to get released for the PC. Once that happened, I bought it and I've been a fan ever since. It was a good day when they announced that ME2 was going to be released for the PC as the same time as the console version. And even better that the same is true for ME3.

I played old-school Bioware games a while ago, and I'd done that, stopped gaming for a while - back then I didn't look forward to new releases, just played what I found, so when my Bioware games ran out, just played casually, mainly strategy games. In 2007 (I think), a friend recommended I play Mass Effect, which didn't seem like my thing. Then I saw who made it, bought it and was hooked.

I was never a big RPG fan but about this time last year I heard some friends of mine talking about ME2 and though it sounded interesting. I went out and got the Platinum hits ME1 for 20$ and loved it. I had to go get ME2 an hour after beating the first game and have since bought damn near every piece of DLC.

It's nice to find a new series every now and again.

I've been a Mass Effect fan since I first watched all the trailers of the upcoming game back in '05 on my old Xbox 1 demo discs. I've always been a heavy sci-fi geek, and when I saw those trailers I couldn't wait for the game to come out. Bought ME 1 in '07 and I've been in love with that universe since.
