BioWare I will pay $5 for a DLC Combat Log if that's what it takes to get you to make one available...

I understand that maybe simplifying the game is good for broadening the audience and all, but make it optional at least!

I agree. Might as well. If I had to pay for one I'd probably do it.

With as much support for the combat log as I'm seeing I'd hope to get some "official" notice.

I may just have to get my hands dirty and look in to the toolset after all though. I sure hope there's something that can be leveraged in the toolset. If not, I guess I'll keep looking myself. I wonder how deep that rabbit hole will go?

All that being said I'd *still* prefer an official one though, and I will still pony up some dough for one.

I would also like this added in a patch or something instead of DLC. This would be the best way for Bioware to approach the issue.

I would also like it to be toggled on and off. For common fights with darkspawn and wolves it would not be necessary and I wouldn't mind having the option to turn it off.

So...

Since the game comes with a toolset, I wouldn't be surprised if a modder picked this one up.

Me too, and another 5$ for detailed stat, skill, combat tooltips and info.

Ridiculos.

It doesn't make it any easier. It just makes you say "cool, now I do fireballs of 100 damage", instead of "cool, wonder what the hell just happened, they died fast"

I'd prefer it if the added detail was released as part of a patch as opposed to having to pay for it, and to those who think it would be an immersion breaker surely any wizard would be able to clearly see if someone was either roasted by a fireball or just singed and any archer would at least have a rough idea of how well they can hit a target.

Should have been built-in but I second this.

Well, the paying for it part was ironically. To show how much we want it.
I still would pay for it, but would find it unfair, since its a core part of such a game.

Well since they decided not to put it in to the game actively I don't think we'll see a patch. That's why I'm hoping the money gets some attention.

I think it's pretty clear from the intentional hiding of stat details and game mechanics throughout the game, the descriptions on items and spells, and the manual, that Bioware made a design decision not to show us the numbers.

If you want a combat log (it would certainly help resolve a pile of mechanics-related questions), the best way to begin would be to try and address the aesthetic / design decision not to add it.

BioWare, I understand that you made an aesthetic / design decision to not offer a combat log and I wonder if a pile of money from your loyal fans could change your mind? It'd make us happy and it'd make you money.

It is a shame, that this "Old-School" Game has not a Combat-Log.

Please Bioware, give us this nice Feature.

Well hell. Why stop being taken for a ride now after buying a 'dungeon' that was phat lewt with trivial content and a chest that should have been in camp attached already... Let me buy a combat log instead of adding a line in tooltips with durations, slipped just under the line with cooldowns. :c

quick question, but what exactly is a combat log?
I haven't even played DA:O yet but I hope to get it soon. Hopefully I don't come off as a loser :D

Hi Daryn, I'm glad you asked. A combat log is a history in text of the actions that have taken place in combat. Traditionally, such a log will contain information on who has attacked which targets, with which abilities, and to what effect, usually represented by a numerical value.

For instance, you may see in the log things like...

Morrigan casts Fireball.
Bandit takes 41 fire damage from Morrigan's Fireball. 12 resisted.
Bandit takes 43 fire damage from Morrigan's Fireball. 10 resisted.
Bandit Leader takes 12 damage from Morrigan's Fireball. 41 resisted.
Bandit shoots Morrigan.
Morrigan takes 13 piercing damage from Bandit's Elf-Flight Arrow. 1 resisted.

And so on. As you can see, this information can be useful in determining your party's tactics throughout the fight. In this case you could discover that the Bandit Leader seems to be highly resistant to your Fire spells and this would let you know to switch to your Ice spells for taking him down.

I hope this clears up your question on what a combat log is. And no, you're not a loser.

Thanks for the information. Seems pretty useful
