Often after a battle, I've noticed that my characters will have the Injury debuff on them. At first, I just cured it and moved on. Then I noticed it would happen to characters that I had control of the entire time. They never died, yet after the battle they received an injury debuff, which, according to the codex, only happens upon death.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there some sort of hidden mechanic to the injury debuff or is this a bug of some sort?

I can verify this has happened to me several times, regardless of whether I was controlling that character or not.

I've noticed this as well. From a "logical" perspective it makes sense to sometimes take more serious injuries in battle, but it's annoying as all get-out since there aren't nearly enough healing kits to offset such unexpected injuries.

I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't had a character die yet, but just had all four members of my party show up with injuries after a battle. Healing them all will deplete my injury kits significantly. And I don't see a spell that appears to heal injuries.

This happened to me when they took huge damage from a AOE fireball. No one died, but those who are hit suffered Injury debuff. Maybe it is a critical thing - e.g. criticals have chance of inflicting lasting injury.

Traps or exploding barrels will most commonly cause injury. Just simply use an injury kit and you will be fine. It's best to put the injury kit somewhere on everyones shortcut bar. No biggy.

It's difficult, considering how tiny and minimal the UI is, and there isn't a tooltip, but you'll see a little red skull near your character's portrait and their max life is down by a bit.

I have also noticed injuries cropping up on characters that haven't died. I believe this is a bug. The codex on injuries only says that they happen when characters "fall in battle" which means die, unless they literally mean fall down. The codex on traps does not say anything about them causing injuries. And in Origins injuries only happened when characters were killed in battle.
I do not agree that it is "no biggy" because if you encounter this bug often enough you will very quickly run out of injury kits and be forced to fight with reduced health.

I've gotten to the point where I just let my characters run around with an injury just because it's too annoying to deal with.

It's not a bug. It's traps and/or explosions. The codex isn't the word of god people.

It's not mentioned in the manual either. Both the manual and codex explicitly explain that injuries occur when characters die.
The whole point of injuries is that they are a death penalty. Why would traps cause a death penalty? Why not enemy knockback attacks, or mage fireballs? It may be that the injuries are being caused by traps, but that is either an unintentional effect (bug) or it's a stupid and totally random design change.

Okay...if the codex says from death, that means those exploding barrels did enough damage to instantly kill you and your guy get back up. No biggy just stay away from them.

It appears that if you go back to Hawke's house, all injuries are gone when you gather your party again. So, in that way, the house operates like the camp in DA:O.

Some thing else I have noticed in regards to injuries is that Hawke never seems to get them, even if he / she gets knocked unconscious, is any one else having this issue?
