Here's the thing....the game's pretty good. You're welcome to disagree with that, but hopefully you recognize that either stance is fairly subjective and opinion based. It really doesn't matter. My real problem, and the reason why I'm checking this forum frequently, is the lack of a rationale. I love Bioware. You guys have made some of the best games I have ever played. Probably 5-6 out of my top 10. And I want that to continue. I don't think there's some sort of conspiracy with this game, but you're sending mixed signals. I can understand the position that you would hope real fans wouldn't fight every step of the way when you try to take a game in a new direction....but this isn't a new direction. This is Mass Effect. Most of these "new" things originated (at least for you) in ME1 or 2. Voice acted main character. Dialogue wheel. Simplified inventory system. Action oriented combat (in an RPG). Just take a look at the pause menu - they're nearly identical (admittedly a minor point, but is just screams "shameless"). Which is fine. ME is a great game and taking ideas that worked from another one of your properties is smart. I'd even go so far as to say necessary. But it's disinegenuous to suggest that we're reacting poorly to change itself (as would be the case for completely new stuff) when the real issue is the specific type of change. Given that the 2 games (ME and DA) are obviously different types, it doesn't make sense that the rationale is that DA would be more successful if similar to ME, but rather there is a third factor causing both titles to go down the same path.
DA: II is out. And beside fixing some minor (in the context of building a game from scratch) issues, nothing can be done about it for better or worse. What worries me is the possibility I'm going to have to deal with this same stuff for ME3 or any other games you put out. I suppose I don't necessarily have the right to any answer from you (that is, there's no rule saying you have to be accountable to your fans - plenty of other developer's aren't and I'm okay with that) but I've always felt you do care for whatever reason. And thus I'm posting on a topic that in any other case, I wouldn't be giving a second thought. Also, at 5:30 am.
Frankly, if the answer is just "we were really rushed" that's okay. It's the stuff that seems like smoke and mirrors that bothers me (and gives momentum to the "conspiracy theories" floating around here). Kind of like the auto-attack not appearing on the console versions: it would be a complete non-issue if it didn't seem like something was a bit off. The answer might be something innocuous and simple (like the official word is)....but if that is the case, the presentation of it is a bit off.
Not really gameplay....
