This game is odd in that they seem to have done nearly everything correctly. The ui and gameplay changes are great imo. I love how casting a spell doesn't have 30 secs of lead time.
That said; I am not feeling anywhere near the level of emotional attachment to my companions as I did in the original.
I think they have done very well given what they have to work with ((an (imo) far less epic plot line), but it occurs to me that they themselves wrote the plot and that it could have been anything they chose. The best word I can think of to describe how I've felt playing the game thus far in probably melancholy. It is entertaining, and well-done, but I keep catching myself wondering when the drive will kick in.
My very favorite parts so far are the idle chat between Merill and Isabela, or Merill and anyone really. If you aren't running Merill, then I suggest you try her. If you are playing normal, then even if you do not craft her into a powerhouse, you'll be fine.
Bioware created a masterpiece

Good game? Sure.
For a AAA studio, I was expecting much better - especially when it came to the narrative. It feels unfocused, hollow, and petty. Perhaps the game doesn't communicate Hawke's desires very well, but why is it so important that the Amells regain their former position in society? If that is the case, then there should have been a few cutscenes of Hawke and his family working like slaves or something like that. But there isn't.
Granted, I am six hours in so far, but the quests feel disconnected from the main plot and feel more like the Deep Roads filler from the first game.
So far, this is a 7/10 in my books. One of BioWare's worst efforts so far - and given that I have played Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age: Origins, I thought I would never encounter a BioWare that was decisively below average compared to their other efforts, especially with things like narrative - and as we all know, an excellent narrative is always a BioWare hallmark.

If DA2 is a master piece than Cooking Mama should get GoTY award for best RPG...seriously the game is alright, but it's nowhere near the trash/perfect game people are making it out to be.
I agree.
DA2 is a fairly good game so far IMO, but too many things (MOST especially the character creation screen's restrictions so far, graphical glitches, etc., and somehow, Hawke's voice sounds too similar to Leliana (don't get me wrong, I loved Leliana's voice in DAO) to me) that prevent it from even being close a GOTY.

Yeah, I have 16 hours pre-expedition too. I pause a ton when I play and I've been doing every quest. I think my main thing is that I keep buying things with the money I should be saving, but I finally reached 50. I'm sticking around to finish up some quests I can scrounge up though.

It's definitely good and has far surpassed my low expectations but it's by no means a masterpiece. I can't think of one game I would call a masterpiece...
