I'm loving how they made heals have a long cooldown, as well as potions.
That being said....
How the heck are people beating the 2nd ogre fight on Nightmare? I did it, but I somewhat cheated by having my Hawke (mage) kite around the ogre + 3-4 darkspawn for 15+ minutes taking pot shots with my staff in between AoE stuns (the improved Mind Blast).
Has anybody beaten this fight "legit", and if so, how? There's so much incoming damage on Nightmare it seems, and it isn't like you have a lot of tools to work with that early in the game.....

Oy, if you're having trouble with the 2nd Ogre, wait till you get to the third.

You have to pay close attention to what the ogre is doing. Remember thta all his attacks hit hard and will knock your melee around quite a bit--you need/want to dodge his attacks. What I did was have my two melee (Aveline/2h warrior) kill all the little guys while Bethany grabbed the Ogre's attention initially. I guess you could call it kiting, but really all I did was dodge every time he tried to charge or throw rocks. Pro tip: he causes friendly fire. Line him up on his own guys and then have everyone scatter when he charges, and his little buddies will quickly die.
After all the little ones are dead, you still have to watch out for his melee attacks. He attacks pretty slow, and you can interrupt him with pommel strike, but make sure you're running out of melee the instant he starts to jump in the air.
The fight I had trouble with was fighting the mercenary right when you arrive in Kirkwall. His whole party being fire immune effectively made the fight impossible for me to beat legitimately, since only two characters were able to contribute. I'd be curious to know if any groups that included Bethany were able to kill him (and how they did it).

Yeah, sounds like on Nightmare you are "supposed" to avoid the Ogre's damage then.
If I ever did that fight again I'd make sure to turn off Av's Taunt tactic and just have a ranged party member keep the Ogre busy and manually avoid the charges/rock toss.....which is basically what I did, but I made it harder than it had to be by waiting until only my mage was left standing to "do it right".

I've found that turning off virtually all tactics except something like "attack target of" is best on nightmare. And as for the kiting... it feels like avoiding most of his damage is intended. Taking more than a couple attacks is almost a death sentence, and they just don't hand out enough potions to soak all that damage. Besides, I think it takes a fair degree of skill and awareness to actually keep everyone alive in that fight even while kiting.

I beated it just by running around like crazy spliting up the party.
Ignore the ogre as much as you can and beat down the darkspawns, one by one.
That's being my "strategy" in big fights for almost 15 hours of gameplay, kite with the whole party, gaining time by stuning/knocking down some enemy and beating down one by one.

It's a slow melee type monster. And reasonable person would kite it. The best way to kite it is up and down the narrow path you came in before the sibling death cutscene. Because the path is narrow and you can make sharp turns at either end of it, (1) Ogre regularly runs Hurlocks over; (2) Ogre regularly runs into walls. It's quite fun actually.

Kite kite kite! I control the tank and run around taunting the group while the other party members whittle down the trash mobs. My main is a mage, which helps. Once everything but the ogre is down either continue to kite while ranged takes him down slowly or dance his attacks. Its about 2 swings with a 1H or 1-2 swings with a 2H, then get out. Kiting melee is extremely easy so far. After a few tries I cleared that encounter with out anyone dropping by less than 20%.

Maybe they should rename it Kitemare?

I actually thought it wasn't a very difficult fight, I killed him on the first try. Aveline managed to tank him pretty much all through (Stonewall helps). It also helps that ogre attacks have friendly fire, so he keeps hitting the darkspawn if they flock around him to get to Aveline.
