Man... I mean, if they want to do something like this, fine. My only beef with it is that it just seems asinine. Was it impossible to just keep them similar looking to what they were before? Did they honestly think people would like them better? I dunno, I don't know what they were thinking when they did this. The fact that it looks ripped from Avatar just makes it worse.

In the end, it's not the biggest deal. But c'mon, you think it'd be just as awesome if Yoda's appearance in Star Wars 1-3 was nothing like his appearance in 4-6? There's just no excuse for it man. My guess is that some lead developer was trying to push some sort of personal agenda for the design of the elves because they didn't like how they were in the first one.

At least they didn't change dwarves... although I'm not sure what else you'd do except make them shorter, or give them horns.

Some prefer the more cliche look of classic fantasy races while others don't. I think bioware did a good job with the qunari, but i prefer the old design of elves and darkspawn.

I am an anime fan, of many various styles and genres, the only anime-ish is the ears, everything else doesn't feel right no matter if  looking at it from a western or eastern artistic point of view

This is my exact thought too, elves could have been better but they made it worse, elves and darkspawn are now worse, but at same time the qunari do look better and more unique.

I can't stand elves now. And damn, they were my favorites in DA:O. I loved being an elf, and I loved looking at elves. Now they look like aliens from some UFO-freaks hallusinations. When I saw my firts elf now, I almost started to cry...from fear.

It was my opinion that it's your opinion that my opinion was that what she said was her opinion.

In other words, he said something that was his opinion that needed to be fixed for the devs. Which is something he believes, which is an opinion, and I fixed it that he wanted it fixed for himself which is -not- an opinion. Unless your opinion is that it's my opinion that she wants something fixed which isn't her opinion because what she said is clearly fact and therefor it's my opinion that her opinion is wrong and that would mean your opinion of me would be right but in my opinion I think you've got my opinion wrong.

But you know, that's just my opinion.

They could've been better, but that's tautologically true if you assume nothing is perfect. Anyways, my question is why do they need to be made better? Why not just keep them the same as in Origins? I think consistency in these matters is much more important that what is found to be aesthetically pleasing, because even if they are inherently "better" in some regard it's just going to screw with people and make them wonder "Huh? Why do they look so different?". Like, what if Nintendo decided that Link should recieve a similar overhaul? People wouldn't like it because it's not consistent with the look associated with Link. Now I guess that's maybe not the best example since Link is quite firmly established, but it's a similar principle. The Dragon Age elves already had an appearance, what sense was there in changing it?

I think the same thing happened with Klingons in the Star Trek series, although I'm guessing that was partly due to technological limitations spanning over several years.

Alright, I am totally flaccid, but thank you anyway ma'am. © Peter Griffin

You could still make very ugly elves in DA:O. Remember that hag in starting area for city elf?

I have noticed a pattern now that alot of people who support the new design of elves in DA 2, admitted to not liking or not playing as elven PCs. This kind of hints at a motive to me.

I support Bioware's incentive for trying to make elves look unique, but the implimentation is just bad, it would be nice if it was re-examined. Not every player who shares interest in the elf race's potential in the Dragon Age game ore should be refered to as anime obsessed pedophiles, that's just insulting to everyone and a horribly flawed straw man arguement. The last thing I want is for elves to look like like a form of anime stereotype.

I still stand by my theory that Bioware made most of the elves look this goofy so players would complain less about not being able to play anything but a human. Dwarves are not generally considered physically attractive by alot of people and now neither are elves, so who will miss them, right?

That picture of Hawke and Merrill in bed does make me laugh, thanks for posting it. He really does have an expression on his face that reads "damn, I must of been drunk last night...do I chew off my own arm so as not to wake her or do I pretend to be dead."

Weren't elves slaves? With the physical shape they have in DA2 do they look capable of doing any hard labor??? They try to lift a boulder - their arms will snap.

Very few slave professions have required really physically powerful and fit slaves, the good reason being that if your slaves could overpower you, they often would, instead of 1 great slave, 3-4 crap ones was considered better thoughout history as you could make them work in large numbers to accomplish simple tasks one physically fit person could do.

This changed slightly with the invention of firearms as weak slave owners became able to overpower their physically fit slaves with a squeeze of the trigger.

The elves look fine and not just look like people with big-ish ears. They do look distinct now at least.

The Darkspawn re-tooling was the only failure and that is mostly related to their armor and weapons which are terrible.

The pro-DA2 Elves people in this thread perplex me.

It's not a question of attractiveness.... these elves don't even look *humanoid*. They look deformed.

It has nothing to do with the "standard of beauty" garbage that you yesmen are churning out and everything to do with proportion and realism.

Is it not just horrible how different people's opinions can be?

It is not a question of attractiveness, yes. But they are supposed to look different, not really human.

Oh how cute. You're taking the cool, objective "high road" and condascending me. Can it.

Different != Not realistic.

If you don't do some form of art it might be difficult for you to understand (don't mean to deride you - just no better way for me to state this). There is the thing about proportions - any good artist knows that they have to keep that consistent and realistic (if you're going to retort that Elves aren't real, you missed my point).

Many of the Elves' models in DA:O had this problem as well; the concept art was great but the in-game execution was poor, and unbelieavble.

I'm not good at explaining things, perhaps someone else can better-articulate what i'm trying to say.
