I like them being easily recognizable as elves while not being the standard fantasy elves or just long humans with pointy ears, they along with dwarfs and qunari in the DA universe feel like unique races.

Only elf that looks good in Dragon age 2 is Fenris.
True, but even he doesn't look that great.
And I don't understand the people who are saying they like the look because the elves are now different than humans. That rationale could justify any non-human look. So why not just turn them into lizard people? At least then they wouldn't be so repulsive. Alright, I'm being a little snarky, but I'm genuinely perplexed as to that particular rationale (I get some people just like midgit Na'vi, but why justify it that way when it's so non-specific?).
And if you're going to make the elves not beautiful to humans, why make the dwarves an underground species, why make ogres violent, why make demons bad? Just name them something else... like "navi."

They are Navi rip offs, ripping off something that others haven't ripped off before does not make it original. So if you're not going to be original then rip things off in an upward direction don't start with Lord of the Rings and work your way down to Avatar.

Can't unsee the beard! Pretty sure it's just fail blush usage though, outlining the perfect beard.

b. Dwarves have odd body proportions - unless you hang around a lot of very short sumo wrestlers so the notion that all humanoids will have "human body proportions doesn't work and that is why arguing that they don't fit some human golden mean is pointless. That adherence to a 100% human body proportion is why they look like short humans with bad tats in the first game. They are different and I know the (creepy) elf fans won't like that they aren't just the radiant, pure skinned elves of the Tolkein world but aren't we about burned out on that motiff by now?

They were going for the anime elf look with the ears and failed badly.

On that particular note, there's nothing wrong with Alleyne.
I'm sure there are others out there who love the anime elf look we now have in Dragon Age II, but I'd keep that design in anime, and keep it out of DA. Sadly the elves I've seen so far in the game are severely creepy (with necks thicker than their arms, how?), and the only saving grace for not being able to use my city elf warden is that she died before this terrible new-look Blight occurred upon her race.

I do think they look weird but I don't let it bother me too much. The so often lacking facial expressions and emotions during conversations annoy me more to be honest.

Neutral feelings about the body (would personally like a little more meat on their bones).
Like the ears.
The body and ears are already in the lore (Elves are a poibty-eared, lithe peaople who excel at poverty - Paraphrase from Sten), but nowhere is it said that they are the descendants of....
Rhinos? Klingons? I don't know what to say, HATE IT!

Well, here's an idea. The elves look so weird because our lovely dwarven storyteller telling our story likes to exaggerate. In good and bad ways.
I seriously hope this is the case!
This, and the exploding corpses when you crit someone to death.

They are ugly-trees, and every single elf has fallen, nose first, from it and hit every single branch on the way down!

I like the look of Merrill but most of the rest are not great looking. It really does look like someone tried to make them look like the tribe from Avatar (that is the Navi I take it?)

I totally got this vibe too, especially when you see the warriors with the mohawk things.

They look creepy, and this might well be one the reasons the humans deport them into alienages - they feel uncomfortable looking at them, just like we do .. interesting stuff.
But indeed, they seem to be inspired by the navi. Never really liked those.
Also, they are a slap into the face of continuity. Either they're attractive to humans, or they're not.

Instead, I've got Merrill with a Welsh accent, all the other Dalish with Irish accents, and I can't see Merrill as a LI when she weighs about 50#. Seriously, eat a sandwich or something?
