In all honesty... who wouldn't prefer a more human-appearing love interest?  I'm fairly certain that would be a general consensus.  But, while I don't necessarily agree with their elf direction, I do like that they're at least not affraid to make them less human.

The only two screenshots in this thread are of female elves.  We have no grounds for talking about male elves based on the examples shown. 

Besides, many of us commenting *are* women.  We have no interest in objectifying our gender.

Yes, her head is too big for her body. FOR A HUMAN. It's a whole different race, folks. If they looked proportionally normal, then they'd be humans. With pointy ears.

Don't judge by the screenshots.  They purposely take the worst shots. The elves look much better ingame.

where the elves in lord of the rings oversexual porns star look allikes? Especially the males....

 you can still look slender and still look ****ed up

and i guess it doesn't account for the bearless female dwarves or the beardless dwarf in DA2

I think they've been taking this one step too far in the right direction... Kinda like the combat animation speed.
More distinct, yes, but they just look too alien. Elves are supposed to be somewhat attractive in the eyes of humans, here they just look creepy.

Elves are supposed to be esthetically pleasing for humans. There even was a codex entry in Origins in which it was confirmed that elves can live a quite good life in Orlais because nobles who can afford them keep them for their looks.
With that in mind they are 3 explanations why elves look ugly in DA II:
1. BioWare fail.
2. The is something wrong with Orleasians.
3. Free Marches elves are second rate mutants.

Yea Merrill doesn't look right, her head is way too big. The only Elven that looks normal to me proportion wise the Leader in Scoundrel I think its called. Merril looks out of proportion.

Elves look like shaven goats with down syndrome to me now. I guess they were really trying to make players not miss being able to play as an elven PC in Origins?

Really?  Because Zevran says the Crows recruit elves preferentially because humans find them attractive.

And it wasn't because Katriel and Fiona were described looking like Dobby.

I think the new design gives their race a distinctive look, rather than the usual 'beautiful and majestic' look that is the norm.

The elves in this game do look... odd. Nothing at all like my City Elf from Origins, which is sort of sad. I understand the reasoning behind the redesign, I just think they missed the mark a little bit. Particularly considering the information we're provided in Origins.

Pretty much this. I'm a big big fan of anime, and I think anyone who can appriciate anime art can generally agree anime elf tend to look quite dreamy. The problem though, they only works with anime art. For example being a big anime fan, I have always dream about playing an anime town in The Sims, but any attemp at creating anime characters all range from horrific to terribad, even with good attemp the style just ... doesn't match.
