I'm with you. They aren't suposed to look appealing to humans anyhow.

Except the codex in the first game says otherwise: elves are often kept on-hand by rich nobels because they're attractive.

The elves in this game do look... odd. Nothing at all like my City Elf from Origins, which is sort of sad. I understand the reasoning behind the redesign, I just think they missed the mark a little bit. Particularly considering the information we're provided in Origins.

Well, they shot themselves in the foot with this then. Hoh!

Still thinking that they are a different race, so they are allowed to look unatractive to human eyes. I'm sure someone finds them appealing thou.

They are absolutely terrible.

They remind me of Donkey Pinnochio:

Agreed, I like the fact that the elves - and yes, also the Qunari - are much more distinct looking in this version.  Are they more attractive than they were?  Probably not, but then I didn't find the elves in DA:O that much more or less appealing than humans anyway - despite the knee jerk reaction of some people, different is good.

They overcompensated the fugly elves with huge ******.

Haha :P sorry that was a cheap shot. JK ;)

Actually I'm wondering, do all elves look this way? Or is this just an exception? More photographic proof please? I get that they are naturally skinny, but do all of them have a Sarah Jessica Parker face?

Elves look like shaven goats with down syndrome to me now. I guess they were really trying to make players not miss being able to play as an elven PC in Origins?

Elves are supposed to be esthetically
pleasing for humans. There even was a codex entry in Origins in which it
was confirmed that elves can live a quite good life in Orlais because
nobles who can afford them keep them for their looks.
With that in mind they are 3 explanations why elves look ugly in DA II:
1. BioWare fail.
2. The is something wrong with Orleasians.
3. Free Marches elves are second rate mutants. :P

I love the direction they went with it. Elves shouldn't just look like short humans with pointy ears.

As for lore, perhaps elves look like that because they have vegan diets?

Leliana mentions how elves are pleasing to look at. Zevran mentions that elves are considered beautiful by humans.

I think the DA2 elves look like insects.

Dear god, I hope they use some common sense and just redesign them again for Dragon Age 3 if it's made. Just say Hawke had some sort of visual impairment cause... god it's awful.

There's just no way my Warden went after every elf skirt if they were supposed to look like that.

Honestly, I was perfectly fine with elves being "short, pointy-eared humans". It's much better than them being anorexic, sickly freaks.

LOL I was like "What the ...?" when I first saw the elves in DA2. That said, Fenris and Merill looks still awesome in the game than those screenies I've seem in forum, so I'm content.

Well I was going to make a separate thread about this but after seeing this one I figured I'd just post my thoughts here. ( See Bioware? Responsible posting over here! )

In all seriousness, out of all the awesome graphics updates, this is one area where things just took a turn downhill big time. I don't just mean how all elves now seem like they got their collective noses broken a couple of hundred times. But as a whole their entire looks is just plain ugly. They don't look elven so much as ... and I'm trying to be polite here ... genetically and mentally "deficient". This is made so much worse when you on occasion run into a generic elven NPC who when close enough to the camera looks even worse. Like taking an ugly, ugly, model and then making a low res version for use on a PS1 game.

I can understand, and actually applaud, the desire to make the different races more distinctive, I think creatively that was a great path to take. But it has the opposite effect when the new elf models are SO DAMN UGLY. ( It's a bit of a sad experience when you consider that your DA Origins Elven Warden possibly now looks 10 times uglier because of these changes. )

By contrast the Dwarves and Qunari look good, except for the necks, but just about every character in the game has something weird going on with their necks, graphically speaking.

Bioware be trolling all the players who complained about the lack of an (female) elf romance in Origins is the only explanation that I can come up with. It's one way to stop people asking for female elves I suppose...

I fear this could be the truth, I'm now glad you can only be human in DA2 *shudder*

It was weird at first and took some getting used to, but I understand Bioware wanting to make Elves more distinct. I'm getting used to it and am starting to like though I still prefer DA:O Elves a little more at this point.

As for the sex scene screen:

1. Hawke looks really board.

2. All the sex scenes in DA:O tend to be ridiculous looking.

They didn't need to make them UGLY!!! They could of just kept them short and skinny and make their pointed ears bigger! Not turn them into bug eyed monsters! Image IPB My Warden looks ugly in this game...

LOL you might be on to something there.

That said, I don't have the game, so I'd want to see in game captures of other elves first.  I'm still not convinced that isn't a photshop job using the drag and push to rearrange the facial features.  I find it hard to believe they actually look like that in game.

I am actually fine with them.. I think its nice to see diversity between the races.. Quanri, elves both look unique instead of a slightly taller/bigger or slightly skinnier with pointy ears human varients..
