I absolutely resent the fact that I must go to your site, register myself as a user, register my game, enter a code, and then activate a bonus item before I can use the item in the game. This is inexcusable, ridiculous, and unnecessary. Every other game maker/publisher is okay with simply putting an Xbox Live code into a game box and allowing you to simply download an item directly through the console. While I understand you want the extra exposure and access to market data making gamers jump through hoops like you do, it is not fun for us and there are more than a few gamers I know who resent you for it. Especially when it makes accessing this content confusing and difficult.
If you persist with this nonsense, at least make the process understandable. Put an extra flier in with the game or in the manual instructing us specifically how to activate this stuff and where we should find it within the game to confirm we have it. I tried to download the GameStop bonuses and the Ser Isaac armor, only to be flummoxed why it didn't appear in the "Downloadable Content" section of the game. Oh, there it is, in the "Extras" section. WTF? And I spent an hour trying to figure out how to access the Exiled Prince content from my Signature Edition, only to discover - after 45 minutes on EA's chat tech support - that the code must not have come with the game and the tech agent had to create a new code so I could download it. And I still can't figure out how to download the soundtrack.
Here's what to do in the future (I'm thinking with ME3): Put a simple flier inside the packaged game case clearly marked with a 20-digit Xbox Live redemption code for each piece of downloadble content, allow me to enter it into Xbox Live, and then it will simply be downloaded to my hard drive. See how easy it can be for your customers? This is not difficult and is something many other game companies mastered years ago.
