The ending with Anders broke my heart. T__T I expected something, but not of that magnitude, and the choice was very difficult.

So I went Fenris instead. Or more... Fenris went unto my Hawke.
And I just loved that. I was hoping for him to be the 'rude, badass guy' and the first kiss-scene was just... quite as I expected. Just sad I wasn't able to ask him to move in in my beautiful estate. The option just never showed up, but I got all the 'You're the most beautiful thing that happened to me in this life', so I giggled a bit and I have hard time imagining romancing someone else.
Time to try my apostate, now!
I'll see.
But so far, Fenris satisfied me pretty much. TLoved his low growling voice, his quick temper and his 'I crash glasses on the walls!'. Just didn't like when he left my Hawke alone for 3 years. At least, he never forgot her, so I suppose it's worth forgiving him.
And... For some reasons, often, Fenris was reminding me Sten from DAO. I wished a bit more romance scenes and dialogs (maybe Fenris don't have a lot of them, too), but oh well... that's my girly side that shows up again. Never sleep, didn't it?

Hmm, am I supposed to recruit Fenris in Act one? I didn't do Isabela's quest and so never ended up recruiting her but I couldn't find anything to do with Fenris. Hopefully in Act 2.
Yes, you recruit him and everyone except Sebastian in Act 1.

Romanced Anders on my first playthrough, but definitely going for Isabella in the second.

I played a mage. I had a fling with Isabella then decided to get serious with Anders. I sat on that choice for like a good 5 minutes. It required 1 reload. I chose against him the first time, then decided that my mage Hawke would spare him. I was expecting him to do something rash, but I had no idea! Overall, I really liked the possible endings for his romance. And the cinematic was really well done.
I did get annoyed with the "I need to talk to you privately at my Clinic" when there are like 5-6 people milling around it and Hawke has doors that shut and lock in her swanky hightown mansion. That she needed to go to the clinic to talk to the man who moved into her house was silly.
Incidentally, I was friends, i.e. maxed out with everyone but Sebastian by the time the "choice" rolled around. It was pretty easy to friend Fenris as a mage. I'm saving his romance for my rogue tho.

Just got through the Chapter 2 gay romance scene with Anders. (where they first kiss and then get together at Hawke's place) and Oh my God! It's so touching and well written! (and that kiss was hot, not just a sweet little peck on the lips like Origins) The Bioware romances just keep getting better and better! Oh, and also thank God the ridiculous music is gone. xD
Agree 100%

Sebastian is sorta kinda a love interest. While I feel they may have had feelings for each other, the romance with him is kind of like Abelard and Heloise (I think I got the names right) who ended up unable to do the deed and both in the Church. His voice, looks everything total package...and he's a 'choir boy' as Varric likes to call him, so it's a celibate love. Not sure how it compares with the others yet, but the trigger and then 'conclusion' of the romance is very short but believeable considering the amount of behind the scenes game time Hawke and he spend together.Teddie Sage wrote...
Edit: Please, everyone. Feel free to comment about your very own experience with the love interests.
Hi,
First things first. Thank you BioWare for giving us so much opportunities with the love interests. It's fun to see how fluid the story can be for everyone and how the situations can vary upon the playthroughs.
There's only one thing that annoys the hell of out me. It's Sebastian. Why does he have to be the only one straight male character that I actually planned to date with my Male Hawke?
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who would prefer having him over Anders and Fenris. Just my opinion.
Also, am I the only one who found the Anders' romance a bit too cheesy?
Friendly,
Teddie
Update: My sincere apology, someone from the web "sploit" me that Sebastian was romancable with the female Hawke.
Its a 'chaste' relationship, not even a kiss shared between them though he does offer up a unique idea to bond them.
I haven't tried the others, my first playthrough I missed getting Fenris entirely since I said no to the guy who offers the quest that starts it, and was done in the Deep Roads before i realized I had messed up along the way...
And Janders just creeps me out. He's...very different...too different from Awakenings Anders. Different voice, different face, different personality...that's to be expected of course because he is what he is. But it was too different for me. When it came time to decide what to do between him and Sebastian it really wasn't a choice. Understandable what he was feeling but up to now, I had been playing Hawke as a defuser of bad situations. And his actions open up a huge can of worms and cost an innocent her life.
Spectacular cutscene. I was sitting there, jaws slack, watching...like a train wreck
Isabella pissed me off (but i didn't romance her, probably would ****** me off if I did anyway, she has that affect on me
Merrill is so freaking CUTE OMG!!! I think I may try romancing her after I get Fenris and see what he's like. She isn't pretty (though the new elf look is starting to grow on me) but her personality just shines through that outward appearance and she's very endearing. I think Merrill is Dagna or Sigrun level of cute!
Well, that's what I took from the first playthrough...lots more to go

The quest that led up to that rejection however, was hilariously awkward.

Also it would be been cool to have Varric as a LI, but I guess that make sense because he's the storyteller, but he could have been more like Isabella, where you could shagg him, but not love him.
Well, maybe not Varric in particular, but I actually think it would be cool to have the storyteller be a love interest.
If you're going to have an unreliable storyteller, having a storyteller who is in love with the protagonist would be the ultimate unreliable witness. It wouldn't even need to be a pursued romance, an unrequited love could do the trick.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
Edit: fixed typo

Part of the romance (or even sex) issues I have with DA2 is *because* BW "opened the door" to really the first mainstream game with open sexuality, provactive sex scenes, etc. And it seems they took a step forward in making giving the player more options than in DA1, but the following has beed reduced/nerfed:
1) You cant "bed" the person you picked to be mate as often as you like in DAO (I just called it DA1 now). The game seems to pretty much choose when. I'm just starting act 3, so I'll see if this follows through.
2) Romance scenes (sex scenes) have been completely watered down. They aren't nearly as "steamy" as they were in DA1
3) You get NO scenes at the brother. Just a quick cut to black then back as if nothing happened
4) In Da1 you could have multi romances, even bed multiple people until someone eventually forced you to choose. In Da2, this is not the case. So far, the only "freebie" snogging you get is from Isabella. Anyone else that you bed, but do not take it further, you will have to hurt their feelings. Granted this is more true to RL. Id be curious to see if someone has found a way around this heheh.
I'm not sure why BW made this change. Maybe they got too much negative feedback from parental groups, etc.. but this has NEVER been a game targeted to the under 18 age.. maybe these changes are a way to make it more acceptable to the under 18 gaming population
However, if they do update the modding toolset. We can bed we will see mods that take people's clothes off and compeltely re write the sex scenes. Since they are not video (but rendered), a lot can be done.

I tend to agree with you. I happen to be attracted to short men, but Varric is not all that attractive LOL. A good facial mod over would be nice. Fenris is just ugly imo. Seriously, could they have made a less attractive elf? Good gods I hope someone mods him like the did Zevron. The only semi decent looking character is Anders since Sebastion is out of reach (unless ur female and unless u know how to unlock his romance).
I am going to romance Merrill on one playthrough, but that's because I love her character and wit.

I've only been through the game once (36+ hours straight!) but I adored the Anders romance. There perhaps aren't word for how much I enjoyed it. I didn't think it was too much at all; of course, that's just my opinion, but I really loved his whole "I'm dangerous, I can't be with you" thing. Very Buffy/Angel, and, to me, very appealing.
Which made the ending much more poignant and messed up.
I can hardly wait to rivalry-romance Fenris. Great job, Bioware. I'm impressed all over again.
I liked the Anders romance a lot too. I didn't even expect to want to flirt with him, since I only sort of liked him in Awakenings, but man did I become fond of him in a hurry. The ending will have me depressed for ... longer than I probably should be. But that's a good thing.
