I did the Merrill romance but at the end Varric says that Isabela was with me even though she left and never came back. That annoyed me.

Has that happened to anyone else?

Yeah, if you take the Isabella "freebie" it flags you as having romanced her, which is a bit sad - especially seeing Isabella had gone and disappeared in the end of act 2 in my game!

All in all, I found the Merrill romance completely disappointing.  No impact whatsoever, and even the bloody epilogue cutscene ignored us :(

Actually, screw that, the entire Merrill quest and personality felt unfinished.  The Eluvian thing was such a dead fish.  And wasn't helped by me getting the closing cutscene at the beginning of the act due to the bug.

Frankly.. I thought they were all kind of crap on the male side.
My choices were a women who more stingy over the law then justices, A Pirate who loyalty as deep as my pocket.. and a cute little elf... who obsessed with a mirror of evil and blood magic...

Just an FYI, but you can't romance Avelline.  I haven't tried flirting with her myself, but apparently she misses any signals you send her way.

Merrill's fault is actually that she's extremely naive.  Her mindset is that it's "okay" that she's doing what she is because she thinks she'll be the only one hurt by it.  And she's decided that she's willing to risk her own life given the potential benefits to her people.  The way she sees it, no one else will be hurt if she screws up.  So it's "okay".

Isabella's got good reason for her outlook on loyalty.  But one of the key points of her character development is that if you befriend her (i.e. get her friendship level up high enough by the end of Act 2 and support her), then she actually does develop loyalty toward you.  Her conversations make it increasingly clear that the only reason she's still hanging around Kirkwall is because of you.  She even becomes friendly toward Avelline, which in and of itself should tell you how much her personality has shifted.

Question to every fans of romances... If you had the choice, which character would you like to date? Only the characters that are NOT romance-able.

Probably Aveline.

No.

A heart icon means you can flirt. It doesn't mean they'll feel the same.

Merrill is innocent of human life. She's not naive when it comes to demons, blood magic, and what she's doing.

She understands that she's putting herself in danger but is willing to pay the price, which includes being a pariah from her own people and possibly dying at the hands of her friends. That's a rather sober and mature viewpoint.

No, she doesn't expect the Keeper would die. The Keeper letting a demon possess her is completely unexpected. Very heroic and loving, but what was she thinking?

Kinda Strange thing happoned with Isabela, in the begining the 2nd act she showed up in my home and we had a night of beding, after that she gave me an item called "threads of the burning sea" or something like that, but I cant find it anywhere in invintory, or the Journal. this a bug or was I mistaken?

That was "you" recieving Isabela's alternate outfit of the same name as her first "Threads of the Eastern Sea". Certain companions change their outfits when you finish their companion quests.

Merrill will make the most noticable change, switching into the loveliest white outfit. Mental brain overload into spasms on her intoxicating adorability.

Isabela puts on a black corset and armband, somehow becoming sexier than she was before. (Note: there is a glitch where she doesn't actually change her outfit. The only way I know to fix it is to use "Maker's Sigh" on her.)

Anders goes all dark on your ass with a pretty much all black outfit.

The Epic Brooder (AKA Fenris) has the most subtle change, simply adding your family crest and tying a ribbon to his hand.

Isabella is easily the hottest of the romantic companion options, so I don't know what you guys are complaining about there.

I felt from the get go that Isabela was really the only option for my Female Rogue. The others were just too crazy and/or had complicated lives. And I thought the romance was very nice. Went from a few hook ups to a real relationship at the end. Just wish the second romance sequence was more than just a kiss at the Hanged Man though...hopefully a mod comes up that fixes that.

Also, it seemed to fit the "No one knows where Hawk is" thing. It can be easily explained by having Hawke and Isabela sail into the sunset...literally.

the love interests again like all the characters the writers have created have continued the get more interesting and never seem to be like copies of over characters.

but to my opinion of love interests the personilties were all very unique i perosnally like merril as she was very sweat and always looked the the better light of everything but when anyone of your companions quest here relationship with hawke she wont stand for it especially when anders made his comment about her choosing demons over hawke very nice idication of jealous.

In all a toast the the DA writing team who prove why bioware are the masters of game story telling Well done i hope they continue their great work and i look forward to DA3 or DA2 dlcs.

Anders romance was fantastic. My absolute favourite in any Bioware game, hands down. I wish there was more interaction, more conversation with him, but the kiss in Darktown was wonderful.

I think it would have been useful to have a "harden" option like we had in Origins. But in Anders' case, it should have been "soften"... This would allow us to see his "Awakening" persona shine through, if only somewhat.

I wish we could see what happens to him and Hawke after the end of the game, but perhaps those events are not yet written. In any case, I hope that DA3 will allow us to play Hawke/DA2 LI again.

I loved the Fenris romance. In my first playthrough I was all D: because Fenris broke up with me and I could never get him to 100% rivalry and so I could never 'conclude' the romance. So my character stayed broken up with despite Fenris having the ribbon and crest. The second time, I got it just fine. But I love the subtle changes in Fenris's character when he's alone with you. He turns vulnerable and even more playful. His slight tilt of his head, the tiny quirk of his lips when he says he'll have to work on his flattery...His laugh when you compliment him. It's all sort of things that made me giggle slightly and feel all girly. The sign of a good romance. :)

I'm romancing Anders this playthrough, even though as a whole, it's hard because I don't like what he does and becomes, but I want to see it all for myself. Honestly, I started one character last night and was like "...wait. This character would never romance Anders, she'd totally knife him way BEFORE he reached the all-important point for how radical he's being. And I just did a Fenris romance....okay, no playing a warrior this time. Time to try a mage..." It was the only way I could see being able to look past what he does and continue loving him.

I felt that I was trying to romance the type of people you'd find in a AA meeting.

And I wouldn't call Ander's romance as cheesy. You definitely can't feel entirely good about it because by loving him and agreeing with him you're allowing yourself to become and accesory to murder.

It's pretty much a war, in war many innocents die. If it were all to go Merrideths way all mages would be dead even the innocent. I didn't agree with Anders but I played two run throughs already choosing to stand by him was way better than killing him. I cringed and closed my eyes when my character slew him. Never again! Posted Image When I slew him he was not my LI.He's my fav hands down.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Ditto.  Thought it made a weird kind of sense in my playthrough.

I just wish the Merrill romance had more of a lasting effect. Or indeed, any effect.

Merrill was my favorite, too. It must be mentioned, though, that Fenris has the sexiest voice in the game, hands down. He's my intended interest for my second playthrough. I sometimes have trouble acting against my own morals, so I have to do a rivalry romance.
As things usually go, this is how my companions usually end up:
Fenris: Rivalry
Isabela: Friendship
Varric: Friendship
Aveline: Rivalry
Merrill: Friendship
Anders: Frienship
Sebastien: Rivalry
There, now you have an accurate measure of my moral compass, if you think about it enough.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. I so enjoyed romancing Anders, even down to the point of having to choose to stick with him after you know, just blowing up some old Chantry. No big.

As far as I know, you get that ending no matter who you romance. Which enrages me. Anders ditching me after all I went through with him? Aww, hell no.

I had Fenris stay with me no matter what. But I never slept with Isabela. If you accepted her offer for even one night, I think that probably triggers a bugged ending of 'ending up with her'. I only slept with Fenris, and he's the one who stayed beside me (even in my first playthrough where the game didn't give me the romantic achievement, and he never technically came back to me. We'll just assume he did off-camera.)

Thank you for not pulling another Morrigan and letting us get the girl(or guy) at the end. I'm a hero and that should come with certain perks. Like not getting dumped.

Except for that fact that at the end of the game, everyone except Isabela leaves you. :( Anders dumped my ass? Should've had him killed. Shooooot.

I just wanted to say that I thought the way relationships were handled in this game were a little lackluster. I just didn't feel like Merrill and Hawke really loved each other. There wasn't really any buildup and there were few moments to really bond. I asked her to move into my place and she was never there to chat with. I loved how it was done in Origins. I romanced Morrigan and in the end I felt like my Warden was connected to her in that way. With the exception of a couple of scenes, I wouldn't have even thought the characters were connected in Dragon Age 2.

I hope you guys do something about this in the next game, or maybe add in some DLC to really make it more interesting. In my opinion, I could have romanced no one and not missed out on anything.

I wish we had epilogues this time around. I'd really love to know how Hawke and Anders ended up.

His last romance dialogue is one of the most moving things I've ever seen in any game.

That's a bug, not a game feature.  Sometimes, if you flirt with Isabela first, before anyone else, the romance flags get screwed up and you get an Isabela romance ending, even if you completed a romance with someone else.

I romanced Anders my first playthrough, didn't flirt with Isabela, and the epilogue stated that Hawke and Anders ran off together.  <3  ;)
