Oh hell, I hope that assessment is incorrect. If there is room for a sequel, I hope DA 3 doesn't follow in DA 2's footsteps. I am hoping it is DLC.

To be fair, Origins did end on a cliffhanger too with Morrigan disappearing...which of course became DLC. So perhaps DA 2 will also do the same.

Witch Hunt was also dire. Ha.

Cliffhangers are fine to me as long as there's some closure to the story that was told throughout the game. I know that sounds awful, let me explain.

As was said about the ending to ME2, the Reapers were preparing to attack earth, but the story they were telling throughout the game had an ending. They just opened it up with the ending as if they were beginning to tell the next story.

Someone else mentioned Assassins Creed. That wasn't rage inducing for me, because the story they were telling in so far as..shoot I can't remember the story now, but I know Allistar found out he was betrayed and he ended up getting the artifact back from the betrayer.. That finished his story. In AC 2 (Brotherhood aside), Ezio ended up getting his revenge, and then they opened it up to the next chapter.

Bottom line, I'm fine with a cliffhanger, as long as they close the chapter on the current story.

I agree this is the difference between a good cliffhanger and a bad one. A good clifffhanger wraps up the chapter and gives you a peek at the next chapter to come. A bad cliffhanger doesn't end the chapter and has a lot of loose threads.

Well, if it indeed ends with a DLC, look at the bright side. Replaying the whole thing with a new character will feel even more epic.

No, you are savoring the game. I'm probably 9 hours in and I haven't hit Deep Roads at all either.

Every new frachise is a planned trilogy because sequels sell better. The only thing you need is the first game to be successful, if not then trilogy is canceled.

I don't quite understand all the fuss over games ending in cliff hangers, DLCs on release day, bla bla bla...
Bioware is not a charity, they're in it for the money. This is how the games industry survives. MONEY.
The full game cost like £25 for PC, with DLCs costing around £5-£10. This is hardly a great deal of money.
For me this is like complaining that the supermarket keeps charging you for your favourite chocolate chip cookies.
"I love these cookies man, I'm their greatest fan! Now I have to pay for it each time I want it? Ridiculous!".
Bah!

I genuinely want to believe that it is the bigwigs at EA who are pushing Bioware into all this ridiculous DLC nonsense. I want to believe that Bioware would really just rather make a cracking game, but EA are far to concerned with their collecting up on their monehz and twisting BWs arms behind their back.

Not one bit of pay-off.

1)Romance someone
2) Ending mentions **** all about it
3) Says everyone you know leaves for no reason including the romance who lives with you
4) STORY OVER U MAD?

Game is worthless not a troll just really disgusted.

Well, on the upside, it's not like, the Origins epilogue, where it seems that many of your choices were utterly irrelevant (freedom for the Circle, most notably), or Awakening, where it was all a big fat lie (anything related to Anders). This way, I won't feel betrayed when DA3 comes along and PSYCH! Varric was lying through his teeth and none of it happened the way you played it.

Its not really a cliff hanger. Hawke rise to power is total in full. It just very obviously leaves things open for an expansion.

...er, admittedly I only just hit Deep Roads, but...

...what did people expect with that intro? We know the story's about Hawke's rise to power from that, and we know that Cassandra both needs and cannot directly contact Hawke. With an opening bookend like that, at the most I would've expected Hawke to arrive on scene, cut to credits.

This is a story told entirely in flashback with an unreliable narrator. There's no catching up to the present and going on afterward in this story. That's not to say the ending's going to satisfy everyone, but it seems to me like a lot of people were expecting resolution from the framework story.

I'm 16 hours in and just started act 2. Not skipping any dialogue, playing on normal, doing everything I can possibly do. Seems like the game is of adequate length to me, by early indications.

Mmm ME2 had a dire (imo) end too, but the journey there was fun, and its the 2nd game in a series, i'd expect a cliffhanger of sorts as it is about finding out about the champion and what happens to nearly put the world at war.

How much time did you spend doing sidequests? Did you enjoy the story and journey to the end?

Hopefully my copy arrives tomorrow.

Completed all companion's personal quests, but only a few side quests.

That's your problem

I spent 10 hours in the first act

When looking at books and writing them you often talk about "the promise to the reader"
Basically, what you hint the book will be about and what will be concluded within the book.
The game kinda fails at this. Lots of promises, few of them fullfilled. Its a great game, much better than I thought it would be but the ending leaves much to desire.

I actually felt like the ending accomplished what it set out to do. This was supposed to be Hawke's rise to power, and it performed that well above expectations. Sure, it leaves the end open for DA3 or DA2: Awakenings, but hey... I'll probably play those too.

Besides, Anders does stay with you, if you romance him. Varric specifically says so.

I will not jump on the DA2 hate bandwagon, but please Bioware, make DLC feel optional rather than obligatory.

Y'know how Sebastian's an Archer? Well, he's the only archer, so, while I assign awesome staves and swords to my companions, I'm forced to sell all my bows. Unless I get the DLC or play as an archer meself.

They say they didn't plan this? Bull****. 1 healer, 1 blood mage (offensive), 1 2-Hander, 1 Sword and Shield, 1 DW Rogue and 1... crossbow??! <_< They probably thought of making him an archer, but altered that to make Seb more 'special'/necessary.

(PS: I got the Signature Edition, so he came free, but I've been having some trouble authenticating the DLC.)
