Normally I love using the GPS but I hate it as a vanguard.

Eviscerator is a distant second.
Scimitar is easily my least favourite shotgun.
I don't like GPS as a Vanguard, great for Adept though.

Adept - GPS by a long long way.

Claymore, Claymore, Claymore, Claymore and Claymore.
It's rather unforgiving, as far as missed shots go/and the reload trick, but you should be able to get it with some practice. When you do, that's when the real fun starts.

I like the Eviscerator too, but it's just not the same.
I'm gonna take the Scimitar out to dance the next time I'm gonna play my AR trained Vanguard though, I haven't used it enough.

The GPS is horrible at point-blank. It's designed for the other classes.
The Scimitar is great at stripping Shields/Barriers to open up Biotic combos, although it's weak against Armor. For the same reason, it works great with Inferno Ammo/Cryo Ammo. The Mattock also functions nicely as a shotgun for similar reasons, but it also has great Armor penetration.
The Evicerator is... for people who can't afford the Claymore. Meh.

I just played the Samara recruitment mission with the Scimitar. The higher rate of fire is a pretty good trade-off for the lower damage. I had to find a different rhythm from by usual charge/blast in face/melee. Instead it was charge/blam/blam/blam/blam/melee if needed.

I guess it also depends on the difficulty level. If you'replaying on normal, the Scimitar will annihilate everything. On insanity its damage is just low compared to defenses.
I don't really agree with that. The Scimitar does outpace atleast anything short of the Claymore in DPS even against armor. I actually bumped up my difficulty from hardcore to insanity, because the game got significantly easier changing from Eviscerator to Scimitar. It does just fine regardless of the difficulty level.
I think the shotguns are nearly perfectly balanced in ME2. It really mostly depends on playstyle what you should be using. Katana though I don't fancy so much. It's basically the same as Evi, only with a larger clip, but lacking in power and range.

On topic: Claymore followed by the Scimitar and then the Eviscerator.

Seeking more varied gameplay and continuity with a vanguard that had AR training in ME1. Those are my reasons for choosing AR with one of my Vanguards, others may have other reasons.JoeClose wrote...
Why would people even use AR training with a vanguard? The whole point of the class is to just blast people in the face with your shotgun. AR training defeats the entire purpose of a vanguard.
Besides, the "purpose" of the class is to be a vicious biotic CQC Specialist. If that is achieved with an AR or a SG is not interesting, the efficiency of the trooper is.
But I'm going off topic here. It's pretty funny that noone has even mentioned the Katana yet, I've basically forgotten about it, but is it really that bad?

It's not really that bad. It's just made redundant by the Eviscerator. Evi has about the same if not exactly the same fire rate, does more damage, has better range and gains damage bonus against armor. Even though the Katana has two more shots per clip there really is no reason to use it over the Eviscerator.

Like all the shotguns -slight edge goes to Claymore for OSOK.

Katana is not bad at all, if anything, it performs as well as any other shotgun. My last vanguard insanity run was exclusively Katana and it is as good as any other shotguns even though on paper other shotguns "may" loook.

Upgrade pistols agains amored opponents does tons of damage. You should try that, especially that laser guided one.

You can do that just as well with a Mattock. I tried a Mattock Vanguard after seeing this video ( ). The Mattock and the Evi gives me two charge weapons. And like someone else said, gives varied gameplay.JoeClose wrote...

Actually, the claymore or Evi work against those enemies pretty well. Also the threasher maw can be taken down with either of those shotguns also.
I prefer Scimitar for ammo effects ( cryoguard ), Claymore for 1s1k. Evi for early in the game. GPS I won't use on a vanguard.

I've been playing my Vanguard solely with it and it never let me down. To each his own i suppose, but admittedly its quite different from the other shotguns in the game. The Arc & Velocity reminds me of the Half life 2 Crossbow, fully charge it can remove enemy protection over a significant distance. Which, if timed correctly ,can be shot prior to the Biotic charge for maximum effect. Close range isn't an issue if you don't mind finishing off targets with melee once in a blue moon. Preferably , if you get used to the orb trajectory, you should charge the flanks and have each orb hit different targets, pushing the damage through the roof.
Its different but i prefer it to the claymore. Although i only tried the claymore on my Soldier, perhaps i should have a go at it with the vanguard.
