Alistair, *bark* I want to *bark* talk about *bark* something. Could you *bark* teach me how to *bark* become a *bark* templar? *bark*

Nope, not annoying at all.

L2Subtitle?

Seriously...  having a dog that actually barks is considered breaking immersion and distracting?

LOL.

If he DIDN'T bark, you'd all be whining that he's too quiet and that his not barking isn't realistic and breaks immersion and is distracting.

Some people......

Sorry, I never really worked with the sound files. I worked more with the animation files and the internal code. In any case, I believe all the sound files are clumped together in one big binary file. If you have access to the 2DA files, there is one called global.xls that contains a variable that's named something like party_members_idle_timer (I can't remember exactly and I don't have acces to it right now).

Your answer is most appreciated and as you can see, it helped someone else come up with a solution. Sometimes small hints can change the world. So, let's go and see if Alistair has something to say. Been a while since I have spoken to him.

Oh, and to all those other people here, barking and distracting a fruitful conversation about solving something that clearly is a problem for some. We really, really don't care what you have to say or what you think. If it isn't a problem for your guys, then that's great but assuming, that it must be so for everyone else is presumptuous, arrogant if not entirely unfriendly and poisonous. Ironic, that you of all people talk about acceptance and tolerance. If someone says, that something is an issue for him or her, then that's the way it is and nothing can talk it away.

Hopefully someone will make a small mod so we can either tell it to leave or kill it. I thought it was supposed to be a trained warhound that was highly intelligent. Its constant barking makes it seem more like retarded cannon fodder for the front line.

Also was there a way to get rid of or avoid keeping him playing as a human noble or did I miss it.

Well I didn't make it so you could kill him or get rid of him, but I did make it so he doesn't bark all the time in camp:

Fixed. :)

Luchaire  ...  many thanks for a spendid job.  I just got Balrog back not long ago as a party member and your excellent training made him a new "War Hound".

I probably spoiled him as my pet when we were both younger. I thought darkspawn were just tales my nanny told me to keep me in line.

Good Job

Umm...do you guys ever talk to dog? I think he only barks when there's some new dialogue.

Not true. One of his idle animations involves an obnoxious and persistent barking. Idle animations are purely random, and have nothing to do with dialog.

It's never bothered me, but now that it's in my mind, maybe it will next time I play the game. It's just funny though, so much like a real life problem.

I didn't mind the barking when just running around or selling things. I hated the barking when I was trying to talk to the NPCs in camp, because I couldn't hear them over the constant barking. I've had dogs, I'm used to dogs, but I also taught my dogs not to bark.

I'll look into this fix!

He's not even loud enough to be noticeable at any distance other than standing next to him.

Maybe it depends on your system or settings or something. But in my game, he's loud enough to almost completely drown out conversations with Zevran, Alistair, or Leliana when in camp. Sort of kills the mood when trying to romance these people. :?

What i have found that works most of the time is to interact with the dog, (pet) then he will settle down. I have noticed as well that he seems to bark more when there is some sort of party interaction with him for example the Sten/dog growl cut scene. This is not always the case, it does not always silence him but i have found that this seems to curtail it some.

It makes the camp sound like a trailer park.  I've been waiting for an NPC to roll up with a covered wagon and offer me a bag of weed and/or his 15 year old daughter.  I wanna get the retard high and have the daughter lick Alistairs lamp post... in the winter.

;)

That NPC is already in camp.  Enchantment?  ENCHANTMENT!

Personally, the dog barking doesn't bother me; I barely notice it.

LOL If it weren't for the gifts and duty helm I'd probably leave his noisy arse behind.

I think my biggest gripe with the dog barking is when i have my speakers on and my dogs start barking back at him. I tend to turn the sound down or put on my headphones when in camp now.

The dog barks all the time? I didn't even notice. Now I have to go and see if it's true.

Hi asaiasai

I did pet him and often enough but that did not stop the barking.  The big oaf of a Mabari would still bark up a storm and he was never far away during conversations with NPCs and was unfortunately a nuisance.  I do not mind dogs barking when I am playing with them because they get excited.  The barking and even low growling is natural then especially when playing tug of war.  The thing is the barking stops once you have finished playing with a dog.

How do we know when the barking has any meaning if we try to tune it out?  Thanks to Luchaire Balrog is much better company now and I still reach over and pet him/she/it(?).

HE USED THE i-WORD !

BURN THE HERETIC !

Its also a brilliant example of how stupid people are who use the i-word or the w-word. The poster here completely failed to comprehend what this thread is all about. He threw the i-word around even if nobody else was ever talking about it.

It's not just the dog in camp, if there's a dog next to an NPC and you're having a conversation with him, sometimes the dog barks over it.

The game should be changed so that other conversations (and barking) is disabled when you're in a conversation.

Thank you Luchaire!!!!   I was going to leave Dog behind next time because of the DAMN BARKING,  but I would hated to miss out on his fun exchanges with my friends...

Perhaps some sound systems bring out the barking more than others....
