Hopefully someone will make a small mod so we can either tell it to leave or kill it. I thought it was supposed to be a trained warhound that was highly intelligent. Its constant barking makes it seem more like retarded cannon fodder for the front line.

Also was there a way to get rid of or avoid keeping him playing as a human noble or did I miss it.

Maybe it depends on your system or settings or something. But in my game, he's loud enough to almost completely drown out conversations with Zevran, Alistair, or Leliana when in camp. Sort of kills the mood when trying to romance these people. :?

That's so wierd. Even after reading these complaints and paying attention, I can't really hear him bark. Is this a console thing, or something in the options? :?

Honestly, I've never had this problem at all. Even while running around camp he barely ever barked IIRC. Maybe because I spend time petting him almost every time I'm at camp? Or maybe I just don't get distracted as easily and therefore never really noticed him bark during conversations. *shrug*

(Leave Dog alone)

(Pet Dog)

(Castrate Dog to shut him up)

Yeah... that could work

Dogs bark. Just like Alistairs whine. Live with it.

It's great to know about people who it doesn't annoy ... yeah .... if I posted in threads about things that DON'T annoy me I'd be a busy girl.....

Personally it drives me nuts - you are supposed to be having an intimate conversation with someone in camp and all you can hear apart from them talking is this BARK BARK BARK in the background. I have no problem with it barking at any other time, and in fact it seems to make no bloody noise at all at other times.

I got the dog because I thought it would be fun to have it find things and interact with the others, but this barking during camp conversations makes me want to kill it. It really spoils the fun totally.

If they MUST have it do this (yeah like a highly trained war dog can't even shut up when you're talking?) then it should be able to be dropped from the party like other members.

I did download Luchaire's fix, but it still barks a bit. I thought the barking counted as 'speech' but when I turned down the 'sound effects' volume it seems to have shut the thing up. Hoorah! Slightly annoying not to be able to have the ambient background sounds of camp like the fire crackling but 100% better than barking dog.

Just annoying that we should have to do this though.

I dislike barking dogs. I barely notice DOG in the camp to be honest. Now wana know whats really annoying? The Nug. Dont give the Nug to leliana. You will regret it.

Squeek.

Thanks so much for that :) I was considering hunting the nug down for her, but she can now make do with pretty baubles instead - they don't make irritating noises.

Perhaps some sound systems bring out the barking more than others....

Thats the problem I think.
I have a 5.1 surround system and the dogs barking did become very noticeable when trying to talk to other members in the camp.
Perhaps it's not so bad on just a stereo speaker setup?

Hopefully the mod posted here will help. Thanks for posting the link. :)

No, it's freaking annoying even on a 2-Speaker setup. I don't mind dogs, personally, but Dog is just "gahhhh stfu!" That, coupled with the fact my neighbours have two big dogs out in their back garden...

And he DOES bark over a lot of conversations. And for those of you who say "Dogs bark, it's what they do", consider TheDAS. He's letting every darkspawn in Ferelden know exactly where the hell you are. I'm uncountably glad that Luchaire did something to even lessen it ^_^

As it is giving me wrong post errors (FSR), I have to doublepost. For anyone annoyed by the bloody nug, there's a silent nug fix out there as well. Get that if the bloody nug annoys you, like it did me.

Here's my solution:

Get a roommate with a very forceful unfixed cat that is in heat for about 10 days every week.

You'll not even notice the dog after that.

Guys, aside from castration there's a really simple solution to Dog's barking: turn off the sound in options.

I fiddle with sound settings a lot in games, especially in DA:O. At the beginning I couldn't hear battle yells over sounds of explosions, so I'm happy there's adjustment bars for everything in the options. Dog's barking is actually set as a sound effect and is NOT a voice, so all you need to do is turn down the sound effect. It's amazing to hear a conversation without barking in the background. Kinda makes me realize Dog adds atmosphere in the game once I turn it off, even if his barking is more on the incessant side despite the idle animation time.

I like the dog barking and whimpering, it adds atmosphere. But yes, I've lived with dogs my entire life. At least Dog doesn't shed in my tent.

Too extreme...it turns down ALL sounds except for dialogue and music.
Nope......imho that is not an option.
I'll stick with the mod ;)

Imagine if you're hard of hearing with Logitech 5700 and subwoofer. I thought the dog upstairs was being a pain in the arse and I was biting my tongue. Later on my friend was like "turn the *barking*  sound down  because the dog in-game is too LOUD" .... oooh it's that dog!

*facepalm*

I kept forgetting about the bark > . <

the mod does the job !

Yeah, I know all the sound effects are dropped, but since I'm using an unmoddable console version turning down the sound is my only option.

lol this is the exact reason i stoped geting that damn dog, it doesn't help i'm not a dog person in real life & find dog barks migrane inducing but then in any chat in camp this f'n thing has to immedietly bark it's stupid brains out

I never use the bloody thing in battles anyway, at most he digs up a helmet & gifts for me and kidnaps children in denerim, that's bout it

Oh yeah, sure. It thought it fun at first. Help a wardog by healing him, take him along to massacre enemies. By the end of the game I hated the f****** thing. All over the damn camp, except at Morrigan's tent, there's BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK. What sort of a wardog is this? Cannon fodder prime?

Dogs that bark all the time are retarded, or should I say their owners are. I'm more of a cat person myself, but my friend has bullmastiff and although that dog may be quite hugely large, it doesn't bark, ever. Also it doesn't lick you all over your body and crotch etc., it just shiffs you and looks you in the eyes to say hello. Now that's a proper dog, not some untrained loudmouth ultra annoying beast that they put in the game. Bah!
