Does anyone know what the crisis points are and how to avoid losing companions? I'm particularly curious about Isabela's in act 2, because, if I understand it correctly, she'll leave no matter what but only come back under certain circumstances. What are these? I hope you don't have to tell her that you'll give her the relic because I have a feeling I won't want to. But I'll see. I'm also curious about other people (and I already know that you have to make a choice between two companions at the end of the game).

Im not 100% sure but ive been trying to avoid this myself and it seems on some other threads people have been saying that she will come back if you have a high friendship rating or have started a romance with her when you get the chance in Act 2. Now if shell come back with a higher rivalry or without a romance im not sure because im not to that part myself but i hope that helps somewhat. Good Luck

You tell her you will give the relic, then she'll take it and return with it at the end of the Act. Also when the Arishok asks you to take her say no ofc.

In my playthrough...the only companion that I lost is Sebastian since I sided with the mages and I didn't kill Anders...

Hmmm let's see....

You won't lose Isabella if you have a high friendship/rival with her...and that you don't surrender her to the Arishok

You won't lose Fenris even if you side with the mages by just completing all the companion quest [questioning beliefs and gifts] plus 100% friendship/rivalry

Same goes for Merrill except in the templars side

Aveline won't leave if you have again 100% friendship/rivalry with her

Varric won't ever leave [If I'm not mistaken]

You can have Carver/Bethany back if you made them a Grey Warden though I think they would fight with you even if you choose to side opposite of where they stay [Bethany with the Mages, Carver with the Templars] I don't know much about that since in my playthrough I made Bethany a Grey Warden

Anders will only join if you sided with the mages although I hear you can force him to side with the templars if you rivalmance him [haven't tried yet]

Sebastian will leave no matter what if you didn't kill Anders

That's all I know....

I think you have to be at more then %50 friendship or rivalry with Isabella for her to return. I once told the Arishok that Isabella had his relic (thankfully, Isabella was not there to chew me out). I also told Isabella to give the relic back and she still returned. I guess she must have really liked the model ship I gave her.

You need to have a fairly decent amount of friendship or rivalry for this to happen.

Also give her the ship in a bottle. That will be a huge help. You must also help her before Aveline.

It's a 50% threshold for Isabela. And Fenris does not need to be at 100% to eventually keep him at the end; I was close, but not completely maxed out and I managed to bring him back with 'hello, slavery much?' dialogue option. And he only got one gift from me, the sword or whatever.

Anders can be forced/convinced to leave at the end of Act 2 (not sure on the specifics, but it's probably a 'you're too dangerous' discussion). Fenris can leave if you don't do his side quest in a timely enough fashion, and he'll leave for good.

Okay...

Varric will never leave your party, under any circumstances. Kinda has to stay, because if he's kicked out/dead, how would he know the story?

Isabela can leave for good at the end of Act 2 if you have less than 50% Friendship/Rivialry with her, or give her to the Arishok if she does come back. You will know if you hit the threshold for keeping her, because that is when her Act 2 Questioning Beliefs comes up. Also, you can suposably get her to stay no matter your relationship if you tell her she has to return the book.

Anders can be force to leave the party after doing his companion quest during his Act 2 Questioning Beliefs, picking the agressive options untill the choice of kicking him out comes up. (He still shows up to do his part of the plot either way though >_<) Otherwise, he will leave for good if you don't spare him and side with the Mages. It has been said (and confirmed by a dev: http://social.biowar...ex/6758177&lf=8) that having a full rivalry (romance?) with Anders can keep him with you even when siding with the Templars, but based on the number of people to acually achieve it, that either requires a very specific set of dialog choices before or during that part of the game, or is currently bugged.

Sebatian will leave at the very end if Anders stills lives, whether you've kept him in your party or not.

Merrill will abandon you if you side with the Templars unless you have high enough Friendship or Rivalry.

Aveline will abandon you if you side with the Mages unless you have high enough Friendship or Rivialry.

Fenris will abandon you if refuse to complete his Act 2 quest "A Bitter Pill" in an encounter that can happen after it becomes available. You can also give him up to Denarius in his Act 3 quest "Alone." Otherwise, he will abandon you if you side with the Mages unless you have high enough Friendship or Rivialry.

Your surviving Sibling will be lost forever if you bring him/her with you to the Deep Roads without Anders. Even if you have, or left them behind, they will leave your party and the end of Act 1 you will not get the chance for them to rejoin untill the end of Act 3. A Grey Warden (take both Bethany/Carver and Anders to the Deep Roads) sibling will join you no matter which side you pick. A Templar Carver and Circle Bethany (leave them behind) can only join your party for real if you side with thier faction, otherwise, they can only "fight" with you in the final battle, and even then only as an NPC.

It's not just 50% with Isabela, you have to complete her Questioning Beliefs quest. I believe even if her approval goes down after that she'll still come back, but I am NOT sure. I don't think you have to promise her you'll give the relic to her.
