Any thoughts/rumors on what it's going to take to run this game? ME 1&2 played like a dream on my 2 year old laptop with everything maxed.......but I hear there a new engine running ME3. I could play it on the xbox, but mouse/keyboard rules.

Mass Effect 3 will use a customized Unreal Engine 3, same as Mass Effect 1 and 2 did. So the minimum requirements shouldn't be far off from what ME1 and ME2 were. However, Epic (the company that makes Unreal Engine) periodically enhances and improves the engine, and just recently at GDC revealed a whole bunch of additions to the engine, including DirectX 11. I don't know just how many of these improvements BioWare will take advantage of for ME3, but in any case the recommended system specifications will likely be significantly higher than ME2.

Thanks for the info, buddy. My macbook pro (running Win 7) has weird luck with the unreal engine. Games like Batman Arkam and Bioshock play great, but Splinter Cell Conviction ran terrible. I just hope they don't change shader models. Shader model 3 made my previous laptop obsolete.

It will probably have the same minimum requirements, but it will have extra goodies for DX11 cards.

I'd imagine there will be a high res texture pack this time around. Thats what they did for the DA2 release yesterday.

Too soon to say, but I'm not sure it will be much different from ME2's specs. A computer that can run ME2 will most likely run ME3 with zero problems.

Just because it was done for DA 2 does not mean it will be done for ME 3.  It was a different team that developed Dragon Age 2 and it uses a different engine to ME 3.  The same goes for Dx10/11 as far as I am aware Epic have just upgraded their game engine to use Dx10/11 and there is no guarantee Bioware will use it for ME 3.  Sure it would be a nice surprise if they did but don't count on it.

As for system specs, still way too early but to be honest I am not expecting anything majorily demanding.  So expect systems specs along the lines of ME 2's.

Thanks, I'm aware of all this.  However due to the clamour that was made for an ME2 texture pack after release it would be pretty crass of Bioware to ignore all of the feedback.
It will happen.  Feel free to resurrect the thread next year and throw a pie in my face if it doesn't, but it will.

People are running ME2 on Athlon xp 2400 xp (CPU old 15 years).
This says how good is UT 3.5 well written .
So, if ME3 is using the same engine, everybody who is running ME2 will run ME3.
But, please, support SSE cpu's (athlon xp).

There was a clamour for a hi-res pack for ME 1 but that never happened and it didn't change Bioware's policy for ME 2.  I am not against a hi-res pack infact I would welcome it but I am just being realistic here.  As for throwing a pie in your face I would rather eat the pie myself ;) such a waste of pie throwing it.  I won't be celebrating if I am right and you are wrong because I still lose and have to put up with the crappy lo-res textures :(

I tried running ME1 on my old desktop (aka kid computer, now) a P4 2.8, 1 gb RAM, with an Nvidia FX 512 Ram and the game was a slide show.

Should be the same as ME2 unless the optimization will be horrible, which can actually happen due to the short dev time.

I'm  playin ME2 over my friend.
He has Athlon xp 2400
HD 3650 (512 mb)
1GB ram.
I runs so smoothly with all effect on.

When he read across forums it can be run by his CPU he  bought the game ASAP, cause sys. specs.
were noted far more beyond his configuration.
But, this engine is really  a gem.
You can read here http://forums.pcpits...es/page__st__30
which games runs on old CPU's.
Please Bioware, make ME3 the same performance as ME2 and support fot SSE CPU not just SSE2 .
Please can someone direct this message to Bioware. Is is crucial.

Based on what I've seen from ME and ME 2. I'm guessing its gonna run like crap for the first 3 months, and even then they're not gonna build it so that pc owners get a better graphical experience out of it than playstation or xbox. If I'm wrong... Good. I'm hoping that I am. However with this trend that game designers have been following leaves me little reason to be optimistic. Which is a shame since the storyline is just awesome.

I still bet on CPU Recomanded requirement is gonna be Quad Core, since all the new bigger and greater games coming out uses that these days.
