As the title suggests, I have a problem with DA2 freezing every so often. Not uncommon with video games, of course. However, 50% of the time when my game freezes, it either crashes shortly after, or I have to manually hard restart my computer. This has happened three times now in the past two days. No other game I have does this. At all. Or ever has.
I run Vista 64 bit, with a Core i7 975 Extreme processor, Nvidia GEForce GTX 280. Video drivers and Windows ARE up to date, and the game settings (retail, not download BTW) are set to the highest, which is no where near enough to be pushing the limits of my computer. Help would be appreciated, this is UTTERLY annoying.

I had the same problem: I set my settings to low and changed over to DirectX9 and it seems to have helped so far, I managed to play for an hour and a half straight with no freezing. I think it has to do something with DirectX11, and hopefully we can still run it on high without freezing but I have yet to test it yet, so try that and see if it helps.

I have had it happen a few times, but I've found a way to make it come back. When it freezes, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. Wait a bit for the task manager to come up and switch to it, which minimizes the game. When I switch back to the game, it is working again.
If I leave the task manager running in the other monitor, I can just switch to it and back again to un-wedge the game.

I've been having the same issue, with a lockup every 30-60 minutes. Your mention of another moniter gave me a wild idea though, I disabled my 2nd moniter and the game has been stable for over 2 hours now. Haven't been brave enough to try to re-enable the high res texture pack though. It seems a silly solution if it is indeed a solution at all, but I've seen a lot of seemingly unrelated things make a big difference in games in the past.
maybe i just got lucky though.

This sounds like the problem I've been having. Sadly, I don't have a second monitor, so I wonder if eaPuck's solution will work for me.
EDIT: And the answer is no. Seriously, if I have to put with this crap again when Mass Effect 3 comes out, I'm done with Bioware.
