I am currently playing PC version, digital download from Steam although I did have this problem with the demo too.

System Details:
           AMD Phenom™ II X6 1090T Processor (6 CPUs), 3.20 GHz,
Geforce GTX 580, 1536MB GDDR5, 384-bit, newest beta driver (fixed the fps problem but not the artifacts)
           Win 7
           DirectX version 11

I am running the game with highest settings and HD textures with DirectX 11.

Whenever I enter combat black, blocky graphical artifacts start appearing in the upper left corner of the screen, they seem to be like shadows of characters etc, reacting to what is happening. It happens everytime I enter combat, I did however had this problem in the demo version of the game too. The problem has occurred consistently throughout the game thus far. I haven't modified the game short of HD texture pack.

For reference how the artifacts actually look, check out this playthrough of the demo which has the exact same artifacts:

Strange. The Beta driver fixed my artifact. What version of the beta driver are you using?

GeForce Driver v267.31 BETA

is what I am using.

Yes, this is the beta driver I downloaded. I tried re-dowloading and rebooting and it did not fix the artifacts.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Has anyone found a fix for this? I hate to bump my own topic but it is seriously hindering my experience with the game.

I am also having this issue.

GTX570 with the beta driver, running max everything. Post beta driver framerates are great, but this black blocky shadow shows up occasionally.

Its *NOT* a graphics card artifact; the thing has a field and a plane; you can pause the game and rotate around and there are angles where the game thinks it is there, and angles where it is not there.

Funny that this is the only thing I've seen about it... we must be special. I'm on intel (i5-2500k).

So you can pause the game with that black blob visible, and then play with video settings.

I can verify that changing all video options while on "very high" does not make the blob go away. Setting very high to high (and then even turning all other settings max) causes the blob to disapear.

Setting the graphics settings back to "very high" causes the blob to immediately return.

I wonder if corruption occured when we downloaded the hi res texture pac??

I get the same thing.  I believe it has to do with the shadows in DX11 mode w/ very high textures because if you look carefully you can see the blobs moving in conjunction with the characters, occationally catching glimpses of arms, legs, etc.

lol; what is so special about the 3 of us?! haha

Oh, btw, did the rest of you grab da2 through steam like myself? Just one more variable to think of.

Cheers!

me to, game is unplayable as i cant see anything and i have to try move the camera angle around to get rid of the black things all on the screen.

running a Geforce GTX580 superclocked. Also installed the high res pack and got it all running at full. Tried messing with the settings a little but the black things r still there.

**Edit**
Downloaded latest beta drivers and the black things have all gone.
Still experiencing low frame rates but i know others have posted issues of that as well.

Can i join the club? I got the exact same problem. Running Beta drivers, get the strange "shadow like" blocks in the top left corner.

Running with a Asus DirectCII GTX580

Tried to roll back to the latest official Nvidia drivers, but that just messed everything up *black blocks ALL over the ground*

*Edit*
Steam Version

*Edit 2*

I think i got it!!!

DISABLE STEAM OVERLAY, its apperes to resolve my issue.

*Edit 3*

Scratch that, problem is still there.. *Sigh*

*Edit 4*

Read abit on Nvidia's forums, some suggested putting AA down to x4 in Direct11 mode, and YES this fixed it for me, played the whole intro chapter without any blocky shadows in the top left corner.

Well, I performed a custom install of beta (267.24) driver today. Did a *clean* install, and also deselcted the 3d driver (since my 120hz monitor fried after a year... boo samsung) Didn't even bother rebooting; launched DA2, and the shadows were gone (sweet!).

So, I would focus on doing the "clean" install, and as I said, MAYBE the 3d driver had something to do with it, but my guess is its all in the clean install.

Goodluck!!!

PS, for what its worth, the difference in visual quality between High (max settings) and Very High (max settings) is pretty darn small. Nearly impossible to tell appart unless you're looking at side by side screen shots, and even then my wife was nearly 50/50 split between which screenshot she thought was the High or the Very High. I found that in a lot of cases, self shadowing was actually better on High, though tile / cobblestone type terrain was more rich on very high. Just saying that if you feel the game is inplayable with the big black shadow, just turn it down to "High"... you miss almost nothing, and there is no black shadow, AND you'll get back 20 fps or so :)

Cheers
