OS: WIndow's Vista, Home Edition, 64-bit
GRaphics: Geforce 9800  GTX + (Have 2 installed, Dual SLI)
Video Driver: Directx11
Sound: DirectX11
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU         940  @ 2.93GHz
Hard Drive: 705 GB of space remaining.

Disk Version of the Game.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game, done a clean reboot and clean load, tried setting affinity, running as administrator, Running the game from the EADLM, even tried downloading and installing from the EADLM, NOTHING HAS WORKED! I tried setting it to DIrectX9, and NOTHING! I paid $65 for this and spent 2 and a half hours on the phone with the Bioware tech support only to be told "We don't know what the problem is"

Has ANYONE gotten the problem where after the RElease Date program runs, after the first install, an Error window with the DA2 dragon in the back ground saying
"We're sorry, an error has occured,

There is a problem with your games set up, please reinstall."

If you did get this and you know how to fix it, please tell me.

I have just gotten the problem myself.
Just got my disk version of the game.
I had registered the game via the website, then it came up and told me the game failed registration. I put the dashes back into the product code it showed me, then it said the registration succeeded but now I only get the exact same error message.

Any help on this?

Has anyone found a solution to this?

Trying to do a manual uninstall (so to give a fresh new start just in case), i found something very interesting.
The registry path in a Windows Vista x64 OS is different than the registry path for a x32 OS.
While the technical support advice was stating that the Bioware (and EA) folder in the registry is right under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE path, in x64 the path is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node.

Is there a possibility that this causes the error message me and the other guys get? And if so how can it be fixed?

I'm having this exact same error message as well. I've tinkered with the settings in every way I could think of and have reinstalled the game 4 times now, to no avail.

Has anyone discovered a fix for this yet?

the exact message is-

We're sorry, an error has occurred
There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game.

If you are not already, try running the game as an Administrator (right click the shortcut -> Run as administrator).

If all else fails, I suggest contacting EA Customer Support.

After talking to EA Customer Support and forcing them with my persistence to escalate the problem, I have finally managed to play Dragon Age II following the solution i provide below. I haven't close the ticket yet because it opens a potential security threat (even though one can take some security measures).

1. Right-click on the "Command Prompt" under Start > All Programs > Accessories
2. Select "Run as Administrator:
3. A black box should appear. Type in "net user administrator /active:yes" (minus the quotes)
4. Press the enter key. It then should say "The command completed successfully"
5. Close out of the command prompt and log out of the current user account
6. There should now be a new user named "Administrator"; click on it to log in.
7. Try installing the game
8. If it didn't work, you can disable the account by doing steps 1-4, but for step 3, type in "net user administrator /active:no" (minus the quotes)

Notice that this is not a common account with administrative rights but most likely a .NET administrative account.
I did that and worked. Hopefully it will do the same for you. I haven't deactivated the account so far (although i did enabled a password), but I am waiting for their final answer if the deactivation of the account will affect my ability to play.

I had this problem yesterday when I installed the game on my new PC. Reinstall it first, then run it once to make sure it authorizes and once you do that install the DLC and patches. The problem for me was having installed the DLC before doing the DRM authorization part.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, but now, after following your instructions, I am able to play by using the administrator account. Thanks for tracking that down and posting!
