To be quite fair, bonus items become fairly useless halfway through the game.

Pretty much. The pre-order/ bonus items are good for the first act and some of the second. After that you'll want to be using gold/ purple ones. I did a dual-wield rogue on my first playthrough and to be honest, I didn't really care that I wasn't using many of the pre-order items. Those mainly went onto my party members.

The bonus gear isn't even that good. Just play what's fun. You'll find better gear anyway.
It's not that good for the second and third acts, but is pretty goddamn powerful at the start of the game.
As for Rogues, there's at least one good dagger in the free-items chest in the Black Emporium, so they get equal love. That there's only ONE doesn't change much. None of the other classes can use more than one DLC weapon at a time, so it's fair enough.

I can't even find a good dagger in game to buy. I miss my Rose's Thorn and Voice of the Velvet stacked with Paralyze Runes. Good times.

The best thing I've found so far is the Cruel Dagger.

At least dagger rogues get some crazy good weapons towards the end of the game. Right/Left Hand of the Carta, The Low Blade, Red Jenny Somethingorother... all fantastic weapons.

It is, but it requires the purchase of Dead Space 2 to obtain. Most people don't take it into consideration, because, rather than being a promotional bonus item or a collectible item from the Signature Edition, it requires you to purchase a completely seperate game.

the bonus item's aren't that great anyways. They become junk after lvl 13 or so.

Telling people the bonus gear isn't that great is just silly. It's very powerful in Act I, which is enough reason to have this conversation. Plus the point is not how great the items are, but that Bioware knew we weren't going to be able to equip NPCs with armor, yet most (at least half?) of the bonus items they offer are in fact armor. They also knew we wouldn't be able to switch between melee and ranged gear on the fly. Add those two facts together and you can see how this severely limits the bonus gear use, regardless of how powerful or weak you think they are. They should have offered a lot more in terms of non-armor equipment given the changes they made to the inventory system.
