The funniest part is that none of the kids can explain why they think it's "dumbed down" not a one. There's about 40 posts with the same couple people throwing fits yet not a single on of them can back up their claims with any actual examples or points.

get a point then come back.

unless you have some form of dislexia or extreme ignorance that you cannot see the 100s of point to point lists of problems with this game and the "lack of" **** in this game that have been posted within teh last 48 hours im not sure anyone going to listen to you complain about people disliking this game. If people say they dont like it and not go into detail and discuss with others then **** will never change.

The bottom line is, the only review that will matter for Bioware is their financial review six months from now. If the game made them a truckload of money, they'll stay on the path they've taken.

not really becouse since this is a "sequal" to a 1 of a kind title its obviously going to sell well and that means a lot of people are going to complain. If reviewers like ign gave it less than an 8.5 they may lose any special treatments and review opurtunities with the staff and early game reviewing. so its really up to you to tell them how you feel. As for "you vote with your wallet" thats usually the case but not so much for something this hyped.

I couldn't disagree more. Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 flies in the face of this.. The first game sold over four million copies.. The sequel was INSANELY advertised everywhere.. People were looking forward to it madly..

Then it came out, reviews tore it apart(100x worse than any review has poo'ed on Dragon Age 2), and the game absolutely flopped in comparrison(although the sales numbers aren't THAT BAD).

Force Unleashed 1: Over 4 million copies sold on the 360 and PS3 alone.. 2.5m on the 360, 1.5m on the PS3
Force Unleashed 2: 1.5 million to date, 750k on each platform.

The points are in the OP post, I suppose reading is not one of your forte.

why try something different on a series that exelled for what it was? I dont see how toning this games content and releasing it within one year will "work". I just want to slap the team who decided a quick release was needed and scream THIS IS NOT MASS EFFECT THIS IS DRAGON AGE! theres a place to try new significant changes minor ones in a game are fine but the game content feels like a step back .

watch the origins trailer and tell me how that trailer didnt hype you up and when the game released that same rush was satisfied in the actual gameplay this game just dosnt have any attachment expetially coming from bioware who focuses on a memorable journey this just has really fancy fighting :(

remember this epicness its just not the same!

Hrmm lots of ****ing in this thread.....hilarious

Yes its DA2....no its not a direct sequel.....not all franchises have direct sequels

Look at FF, TES, Dragon Warrior, etc. etc. etc. etc.

For you morons to be complaining this hard is funny to me. In my mind from what I have been able to play the combat is VASTLY superior to what was offerred in DA:O. The interactions and way to choose wtf you are going to say....then actually HEARING you speak is VASTLY superior to DA:O.

If its too easy and that's your complaint kudos to you. Wait for a mod to be released to bump up the difficulty. The rest is just BS.

Now I can't comment on the story. I've yet to get too deep into the game, but these feelings are from my experiences so far.

I'm about 10 hours in and have the same feeling I got when I started Fallout: New Vegas. Good game just not up to the level of its predecessor. It is what it is.

A morality stance? Did I say something was evil or good? Do you know what morality means?

According to leftover files in the demo, the original title was: "Dragon Age: Exodus". It would have been a better fit for what the product is, but I suspect marketing wanted it changed to Dragon Age 2 so they could ride the Mass Effect 2 wave.

Oh excuse me for presuming you had a reason behind looking down your nose at people who you disagree with. That makes you even more credible.

To me. I like the graphics better, I like the combat(on the PC, the console's combat is awful) better.. I like the story they're telling as well.

I don't like the city. I don't like the re-using of the same locations over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. I feel like I'm in a the barrens of World of Warcraft, except the whole game is taking place in the barrens.

I also don't like talking to someone, who tells me to go talk to someone else(load screen), who tells me to meet them somewhere else at night(load screen), to go fight someplace(load screen), to win the fight(load screen), to go talk to the original person(load screen), who sends me back to the 2nd guy(load screen), to collect my reward.

I can't help myself.

To me it just seems that for some reason that is beyond my own personal comprehension, people wanted DA2 to be nearly exactly the same as Origins. In my opinion that is the absurd expectation, not anything else. Change people. Things change, not everyone is going to like the changes, and really that is all that can be said.

I sense a lot of CoD hate on these forums, when it seems that is what you want. You want the same game that was just released with a few minor tweaks, which is exactly what Activision does. But this is really beside the point.

At the end of the day, there is nothing other than your own thoughts and opinions, and NOTHING ELSE. Which is why I really shouldn't have posted, but again, I couldn't help myself.

Flame on.

Thats such a cop out. If someone is disappointed in a game it must be thier own fault....cant possibly be the game. If you make changes and it leads to a superior game people will not complain. I loved Mass Effect and then they came out with a much different sequal that I loved even more. Because the changes improved the game.

You can't win, especially on the internet. The people who post on these forums are the super hardcore, and I think take the game too personally at times. As in Bioware made the game SPECIFICALLY FOR THEM... So when Bioware does something they don't want, they feel insulted personally.... like they got dumped or something.

Bioware is in the business of making money, and will make the game to cater to as large an audience as they can. I'm not saying I think it's fair, but that's how businesses work. I think a lot of times people forget that these guys aren't in business to cater directly to them, but they are in fact in business to make money, and hopefully please people in doing so.

What in the blue monkey balls are you talking about? You said that I pretended to take a "morality stance". First of all, it's a "moral" stance, and secondly, my opinion that the boards are filled with whiners has nothing to do with morality, which is the application of an ethical system. Ethics has to do with the fundamental differences between right and wrong, good and evil. No one hates whiners because they believe them to be unethical. They're just annoying and rarely add anything of value to a conversation. Understand the words you use or use simpler ones.

If they did that, people would be saying "they shouldn't waste their time with a side story, when are we going to see a PROPER Dragon Age 2!!"

it's kind of like the KOTOR MMO complaining... WHERE IS MY KOTOR 3!!!!!! I love it.

This should have been a new IP (a new game series). End of story.

The game is good, and fun, and enjoyable, but it isn't a true sequel, meaning, true to the original.

A lot of people are complaining because they wanted a sequel, and a lot of people are praising because they thought Dragon Age: Origins was decent, but it wasn't necessarily for them, and DA2 fixes their concerns. That's fine, but this is what Bioware should have done.

Took the time to create a true sequel to Dragon Age: Origins. This line would be fantasy RPG games that appealed to the older crowds love of Baldur's Gate and such.

Create a new IP (new game series), catering to more action RPG people, and a game that could battle Diablo, Call of Duty, and whatever other games this game is trying to be like.

This feels more like the Console version of Baldur's Gate (the crappy hack-and-slash games).

This IS a good game, it's just too different that then original.

Mismanagement of customer expectation? To ask an honest question, have you followed the development of this game?

It was never claimed that Dragon Age 2 was a direct sequel. Bioware  has always mentioned that DA2 would be telling the story of Hawk (who you would be playing), a human who has minimal interaction with characters from the DAO world. It was also pretty clear that your imported DAO play thru would have minimal impact on DA2.

For at least the last 6 months they have also been discussing that there would be "no race options, different combat, different art and animation, missing classes. Etc."

Perhaps you haven't followed any of the press for this game, but a quick read of the previews from IGN.com or Gamesradar.com  would have covered all these things. The developers gave many interviews and press demos that you could have checked out with a quick search of the
web. And most of the surprises you mention are actualy covered in the
GAME FAQ found on the DA2 site.

I don't know for sure, but other than the
game's title, it would seem you sought out almost no information on
which to base your expectations. BTW there are tons of games titled "gameX"-2 that aren't a direct follow on continuation of "gameX"-1.

I don't have much $$ to spend on games, so I always read up on new titles (or wait for the reviews) before purchasing them to avoid disaopointment/confusion as much as possible.

In my opinion they didn't mismanage expectations at all. I am not saying I like the game more or less than DAO, but overall I knew what I was getting.

Superior? What is superior? Your version of what does or doesn't make DA2 superior will be vastly different from mine or anybody elses for that matter. This is what people don't seem to realize. There are no universals. Only how different individuals perceive different things. Arguing for either "side", or even picking sides in general, is entirely meaningless and really shouldn't even exist. Not everything is black and white, no good or bad, no right or wrong.

This I believe is the real reason for all of the rage.

I would like to prefix this post by saying DA2 may not be a bad game.

However I feel that the blame for allot of the dissention among one time united
DA fans can be directed at Bioware.

I believe that the real issue is poor management of expectation.

In playing the game, and before when evaluating the demo. What I found myself
doing was wondering what game is this?

You see if BioWare had released this game under a different title. Perhaps
"Dark Sword" or some catchy title, which I’m at a loss to come up with.
None of this rampant negativity would exist.

But the error in judgment was  not in  "Streamlining" or
"Optimizing" or "Enhancing"  it was in
"Changing" the game is so many aspects , that in truth , it bears
little semblance to the Original.

In fact if it didn't say Dragon Age on the box I could easily believe it was
new offering.

And that is where they failed.

This new game is not an extension of the original; it is for all purposes a new
game leveraging the title of another game.

I started thinking if I compiled a list of what is different in this game, it
would exceed what is the same from DAO.

No race options, different combat, different art and animation, missing
classes. Etc.

And that is a problem, when you brand a product, the point of that is to convey
a recognizable experience with a product.

When I see golden arches I know I can get a burger.  If I see a check mark
swish, good chance I can buy running shoes. And when I see Bioware Dragon age, I
also have expectation based on previous branding, and product experience.

That experience as branded was a "classic RPG experience" and that is
not what is delivered in this instance.

It boils down to; Bioware has created expectation among its fans. It has
created a brand, and even further by using terminology like "Spiritual
Successor"  to what was and still is the benchmark title BG  for
RPG fans. They have fostered the expectation of "classic RPG".

To then offer a game lacking so many features of the original, and then still
try to associate it with the original through title alone, is misleading.

Bioware in this instance will suffer, not for graphics, or sound track, or combat,
nor story.

They will suffer from a total mismanagement of customer expectation.

Next time change the title while you are changing everything else ...  and
avoid the backlash of people who feel they were fooled.

well said, very well done indeed.
