Ok. So. . . I got plastered last night with some friends and all the beds were taken. I had hours to kill before I'd have a place to sleep, and what do I do? I decide to go ahead and repartition my computer. Everything gets a clean install. Wham bam thank you ma'am. Now, last time I was playing dragon age my netframeworks were both notorious for shutting down, all the time, a few seconds after i start them up. Meaning, I start the service, it goes, says its started, I refresh the properties list, it obviously doesn't stay started. : /

Whelp. After the clean reinstall of my ENTIRE OS, that problem vanished. I'd start them, refresh the service, and they would stay running. I don't exactly know what they are, other than that they are important, and my PC seems to go better when they are running. : p But I digress. I reinstalled dragon age. Annnnnnnnd now they don't stay running. Just something you guys might wanna look into. I mean you EA and Bioware, but if the community has something to offer, much obliged.

Don't repartition when you're drunk?

Hehe ...

Actually dunno what to tell you as I haven't run into any problems. Do you know your .net version before all this happened?

.NET framework?

Those are pretty vital to running Applications, especially for the newer OS. If most of your applications still work, it should be alright.

Drunk is the only time to repartition. Being tired and waiting to get sober beats the hell out of just plain waiting at 4am in the morning. XD

But my version was. . . Well, I had the lastest available for vista ultimate. I believe it is 3.5, but the service lists have them down as "clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_64". And the x86: "clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32"

Whatever the case, I know they working before I installed dragonage. : p I could try uninstalling the game, but I'd really rather not install anything for a bit. XD Been at that for ages.

Yeah, I updated the lastes possible version via the windows update, but I'll have a look at your link. And yes, it is the net framework. : p

I appreciate any and all help. Thank you all very much.

EDIT: Also, it looks like I already have this update thing on windows vista ultimate. : / Not sure. But it went straight to the automatic updating thing in my directory that searches for updates after the install.

Good news. The update seem to put it running again. Now we'll find out if it stays running when I start dragonage. I'll keep folks posted.

only one of what is on? the services? they turn on and off as needed... if the game is running, then don't worry about the services unless you get an error

Hmm. . . I will need to disagree with you there. I'm not running a lot, and when they aren't working like they should be, they are set to a manuel start up (as opposed to automatic). And when I turn them on for all of the three seconds they are supposed to be, there are huge performance increases. : p Before the installation of dragonage, they were always on, both of them, always running, and my computer blazed.

Now I'm having trouble keeping them going. Post installation, of course, and it doesn't make sense. And before it comes up, yes, they were both listed as started, constantly. Such has changed, with the exception of the x86 service for net framework. x64 seems to be the quitter (but it didn't used to be).

Dragon age is an x86 service... it may be turning off the x64 to help speed the game, or it might be a coincidence entirely... try toggling them to automatic and let the PC do it's thing

Working on it. I appreciate your help.

I think it may be beneficial to let you know that neither of them stay on at all now after updating to service pack 2. : / I'll run dragonage, and check my services. Let you know how it pans out.

Again, many thanks for the help.

Awwwwww fragnagit! Just as I suspected. I turned on dragonage and checked to see if either service was on, and just as I suspected, neither of them are. I turn them on, they turn off in a few seconds when I refresh to see if it is still running. : / I gotta say, I'm not happy about this. Though now I can't be sure if the problem lies with dragon age, or service pack two, or both. I'm guessing a combination of the pair. Vista ultimate service pack 2, that is.

Good news. My computer, yet again, has discovered MORE updates, and now the net frameworks are running normally. : p Now to run dragonage and see how it pans out.

Seems I have them both on again, just the way I like it, while the game runs. Phew.

Bah. Nope. Netframework isn't working during the game anymore. : / Or running normal like it was earlier today. : /

I wish I could pinpoint the root of this. Alas, I cannot. I only know that my netframework ran exactly as it should have been prior to the installation of this game. Bioware, if you are listening, it's worth looking into.

I'm running vista ultimate, service pack 2, 8 gigs of ram, and have a decent video card. w00t. I'm pretty sure the OS is the big fish for whatever is going on. : p

unless it's crashing, you don't really have to have the .netframework "on"

Out of curiousity... you said you're running vista... what power mode are you using? If you're in power saver... perhaps the OS is trying to throttle back and shut off "un-needed" services? I know it's done it to my laptop before. Check your power settings, even if it's a desktop, might have gotten messed up a bit.

Also, as a fix for .net, you could try manually removing all versions, google it, there's plenty of automated tools for it. Then you could run fresh reinstalls (MS version, not included with DA install), complete with latest updates and patchest for it strait from MS, might help.

Most importantly- does the game run normally? Even if your services are turning off/on in the background? If yes- does it really...matter? lol.

Ragsy, appreciate you getting back to me and the giving information about the power. I'll tell you what I know. : D
Also, I'm using the balanced power mode.

Without the net framework on the game did not download the content, and for the longest time it would not turn on. I've onbly just recently been able to acquire blood dragon armor and shale because, for a time, it was staying on. On top of that, my game ran faster/smoother with them on. Most of them do. But my machine is a tank, so even when those aren't set to 'on'. It manages fairly well. Though I must confess, I miss the flawless function. : p Now that they don't run I can safely tell you I won't be indulging in any more DLC, not that it matters. I have it all on and working.

But over all, it does matter to me simply because my machine runs smoother and faster for me when they are both active. : p I likes them. Anywho, I'll check the power settings. Let you know how they go.

Edit: In the power settings, where do I adjust what processes go on/off?
