I more or less did for a little while when I had 2 shield users in my party. It was more about control then killing anything fast though. However now that I have bravery it does pretty well against groups. Granted no where near as good as a 2hander but its something I plan to explore more for fun.

What I plan on doing, also grabbing Taunt and some "Tanking" ablities, I'm no build maker but this sounds somewhat fun.

Sword + Shield has the most 100% stagger chance skills, so if you have a Primal mage in group you can dish out a lot of damage with Chain Lightning.

Primal mage and verrick make a brutal combination with a sns warrior. I open up by disorrienting all the melee and taunting. The disorienting also obscures my warrior forcing ranged to move closer. While dissoriented assault will clear entire groups and stun. If they aren't dead at that pointuse a chain lightning.

Overall im pretty impressed, im able to outlast assassins and other minibosses until they run out of potions and get the kill even if my party is down. Also able to quickly clear most groups just with assault and scatter.
