I'm now several hours into DA2 and there are some glaring problems with the general design.  I've heard arguements against these on a thread that was locked because appearantly discussing gameplay is concidered a spoiler somehow.

First, Equipement, No armor or clothing can be equipped to any party member other than Hawke, rendering 2/3 of the gear based treasure useless aside from sale value.  The arguement that I shouldn't be allowed to control what my party members wear makes no sense at all when I still control how their stats increase and what skills they learn (no I do NOT want to lose that control)

Stating that this is because they wanted to give each character an iconic look would again make more sense if I could at least change gloves/boots etc since they don't alter Hawke's appearance at all.  Furthermore, this was a bad excuse and led to a lot of what people complain about in the JRPGs lately

Bioware themselves released a statement with the launch of Mass Effect 2 stating that they had realized that loading down the player with large quantities of worthless equipment that simply needed to be sold or melted down for omni-gel was a terrible idea, so why on earth did the Dragon Age team decide to do it again, only WORSE?

Next on the list, Apostates, As a Mage Hawke, I am an Apostate in a city of Templars, getting into street fights in broad daylight that cause fireballs to be all over the marketplace, in one instance already in full view of a Templar and his squad mates.  And yet nobody reacts...........ever.......  I'm not saying I want to be gang rushed by guards every time I'm forced into combat, but this was a really poor choice for game design

Finally, enemy waves.  Frequently I've seen groups of enemies appear out of thin air, for NO REASON!  They aren't rogues who were sneaking, they aren't mages, they're just suddenly in the middle of the room which was empty except for their fallen comrades a second ago!

Seriously Bioware, this is the first time I've regretted buying one of your games, these are all things I never expected to see from a Bioware title, and certainly not from DA2

I actually have to agree with every one of those points. I've played many bioware games (KOTOR, DA:O, ME 1 & 2, Jade Empire, NWN) and loved them all. DA 2 however does -not- feel like a bioware game. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it as a game and do not regret buying it like the OP at all, however it doesn't feel bioware. It feels dirty high budget low time EA.

I fully agree with all those points, plus

Companion dialog. There is almost none of it, all of it seems to lead to the same place and carry no weight, 80% of the romance seems to be with the guys and none with the females. Nevermind that you can only talk to your companions about one particular topic and only in their home. And only when you get a companion quest to do so. This is NOT bioware to me, and I hate it.

Choices. So far I seem to have been given very little in the way of impacting choices. It seems that the three standard dialog options are just 3 different tones to accomplish the same exact thing. MAYBE once in a while you can chose to fight or talk the enemy down. MAYBE you can chose to stab Avaline's husband or have her do it.

Friendship. This seems arbitrary. I randomly get rivalry points with some companions for making a choice that seemed to have nothing to do with them and they don't even explain why. In old games they would tell you what they thought was wrong with your choice and maybe even give you a chance to defend yourself, but now the conversation just ends and Merrell is now my rival because I didn't side with a demon.

None of these things are game breaking, and I enjoy DA 2, but it is NOTHING compared to previous bioware games and feels....................................

You both are precisely correct and I wish you weren't, because I wanted to love this game. And I STILL actually do love some of the companions. Fenris is just awesome. But I hate how I see-saw on rival/friendship. I'm worried it'll mean I'll never manage to get enough of one or the other, and I can't seem to make the 'right' decisions without compromising how I've been playing my Hawke. The game had so much raw potential, it really did. They did alot of things 'right'. The characters are still fantastic. But sometimes there's TOO much consequence and not enough reward... and at points in the game, downright punishment for no reason. I don't feel epic. I just feel frustrated. It's not even like it can be given the excuse that it's the second in a trilogy of one character's life so it may be a little bit darker but that's so the light can come in the third game or some such. I actually loved ME2, so I'm not a "OMG, YOU MADE CHANGES AND I HATE YOU" person. Changes are fine... but the points brought out by others are changes that were in the wrong direction.

my biggest grip is how they handled the family aspect i think is a lousy job. i hardly critize bioware..but that is totally lousy to me i can understand someone dying in the beginning. but what happens to the other sibling and mother just don't see the likely of that happening in real are small

The apostate thing doesn't really bother me... it's one of those look the other way things in drama you often need to do.

The companion armor is annoying though, yes. There is no real gameplay reason for the change, it's all about them thinking their companion art design is more important than equipping your whole part in a party-based RPG, which could not be further from the truth if you ask me. That said they do have cool outfits. Some kind of compromise could have been made though, like having only their chest armor permanent or something.

Anyway, this should be in general should it not?

All excellent points, and I too was standing up for them during all the grousing about DA1(NPC in camp who's sole purpose is to sell you DLC)  ME(not really sure what the problems were there) and so on

But the BIGGEST problem I have is that, until you are at LEAST 2/3 done with the game YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT'S EVEN ABOUT!!  I mean you're sure it's about this person named Hawke, who will become "The Champion" but you have no idea what that means, or why it's important(that latter I'm STILL not sure on)

At THIS point, 50+ hours into the game, I have the feeling that the game is about Hawke resolving various political issues in the city of Kirkwall..........and really?!!! is that the way to go with the sequel to an Epic Fantasy Adventure?  Some interesting things sure, but none of it really has the depth of DA1.  This whole story feels like a giant letdown and Bioware of all people should have known better
