My computer specs:
iMac 27inch running Windows 7 32bit (Bootcamp):
Processor: Intel i7 @ 2,9ghz
Graphic card: ATI Radeon HD5750 @ 1025MB GDDR5
Memory: 4GB DDR3
Harddrive: 2TB @ 7200RPM
For those who wonder why I play Dragon Age on Windows even though there is a Mac version avaible: It's simple, I run all my games on Windows and keep my Mac OS X limited to work. Mac OS X is for my work, Windows is for gaming.

How much are you guys willing to bet that we are all on a 64bit platform?
I run an Alienware Aurora
Windows 7 64bit
i7 920 @ 3.6ghz OC'ed w/ turbo
6gigs of RAM
radeon hd 5970 w/ both gpu's on (problem persists with one on and cat AI off as well.)
I have the same problems on all settings and all DX versions (9 or 11)
I have posted recently that an EA tech support guy claims that this game was never tested on Win 7 or any 64 bit OS at all. True or not, this is one hell of a screw up.
Is it true that almost half of us own a 64 bit OS? Hint hint. <.<
Im using win 7 64-bit and you're right most people seem to be as well (who doesn't really these days?).
If bioware never tested the game on win 7 64-bit (if that is the common denominator) then you're right, its a huge oversight. Guess all the loving is giving to the console platforms these days.
Nope I'm running Windows 7 on 32-bit because I use Windows only for gaming and for games you honestly don't need a 64-bit Windows (in fact, most games run better on 32-bit systems).
Anyway, the point is that I also have this issue while I run Windows 7 on 32-bit. So this issue is not related to running Windows 7 64-bit.

The stutter-problem seems to go away when I run the game on "medium" graphics with all the fancy stuff turned off. Running it on DirectX9 or DirectX11 doesn't make a difference when playing at "medium".
I also tried the following:
- I turned my graphics back to "very high" but turned OFF the anti-aliasing. Still had the stutter problem.
- Then I turned OFF both anti-aliasing AND anisotrophic filter, settings still on "very high". I still had the stutter problem.
- Then I turned OFF about EVERY option available while still running on "very high" and I still had the stutter problem.
- Then I turned DOWN the resolution to the lowest resolution possible (800x600 I believe) and I STILL had the stutter problem.
- Then I tried the entire list above again on "high" and nothing helped.
- Finally, I turned my graphics to "medium" while my anti-aliasing and antisotrophic filtering where both maxed-out and FINALLY the game ran relatively smooth (still not quite as smooth as most other games on my system).

I tried this as well with similar results. I also tried running in windowed mode. It was smoother, though it was still not smooth as it should be.

Seems like because my performance increases so much in a Window that this should be fixable. I tried those new Nvidia beta drivers (the ones not even on their site yet) so I know those really aren't much help.
Hopefully this is something Bioware can fix.

May I also add that in the DA2 launcher under "configuration", when I go to "video" and press on "recommended", everything is turned to "very high". But as you might expect from an Intel i7 quadcore and an ATI Radeon HD5750, this machine should be able to play DA2 on "very high" without breaking a sweat.
The fact that in all of our cases, the stutter seems to go away when the mouse cursor is not on the screen, shows that this clearly is a bug in the programming of the cursor in the game.

My wife's does this, too (hers is a C2D and an 8800GTX on Vista 32) although because it's not exactly a screaming machine, it's hard to tell if it's the same bug or if it's just struggling to output at 1680x1050.
I'm holding out hope for a fix and have pretty much stopped playing just because the windowed mode annoys me.

Thanks to EA, I'm afraid Bioware won't be able to fix all technical flaws in the future, there are just too many of 'em. Let's hope I'm wrong...

I'm going to try turning pre rendered frames down to 1, see if that helps.
Win7 64bit
i5 2500k @3.3GHz
Sapphire HD 6870 (11.4 preview driver)
Cyborg V.1 Mouse
8GB DDR3
Edit: I think I meant parallel rendered frames. Anyway, I can't seem to find the setting to change it. I have gone from an nVidia to an ATI GPU and I can't find an option in the CCC whereas I know there was one in the nVidia Control Panel.

Same here, it recommends very high, as it should with my hardware. I could easily understand if I was running an older, lower clocked Core 2 paired with something along the lines of an HD 3xxx or a 8xxx series nvidia.
When you have so many people running Core i7/i5's or Phenom II x4/x6's paired with HD5xxx/6xxx and GTX4xx/5xx's who are getting severe issues with very high/high, then the culprit is obviously programming/drivers.
For now, I'm running on high with everything maxed/enabled via .ini. I get around 80-90FPS with this setting. I should not have this lag/stutter issue with my hardware.
Bioware, my mouse hand is getting tired from holding right click, can we please have some confirmation that you acknowledge this issue?

C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age 2\\
From there, navigate to the subdirectory packages\\core\\data\\cursor
and replace it whatever you see fit.
Maybe that helps.

I have been experiencing a very similar issue with the demo (I have not played the full game yet). It turns out the issue was related to my Raptr IM client. The Raptr client has an in-game overlay option that was causing my game to stutter/lag when the mouse cursor was moved unless I held down the right mouse button. Disabling the overlay in the IM client's settings solved the stutter/lag issue. Maybe something to try?
I personally do not use raptr, but its something to try for someone who does. Thanks for the heads up!
I did test the game after disabling all nonessential programs/processes, but to no avail.
also... bump.
