I have been experiencing a very similar issue with the demo (I have not played the full game yet). It turns out the issue was related to my Raptr IM client. The Raptr client has an in-game overlay option that was causing my game to stutter/lag when the mouse cursor was moved unless I held down the right mouse button. Disabling the overlay in the IM client's settings solved the stutter/lag issue. Maybe something to try?

taking a cue from that, I tried playing the game with the Steam overlay disabled..   but sadly didn't help.

Interesting that disabling something like that sorted the problem though.

Will have to experiment.

I'm also experiencing this issue.

CPU: Core 2 Duo e6750 @3.4GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2
GPU: HD5770

I play at Very High with all my settings checked, but the issue persists regardless of graphics quality.

Same issue, regardless of settings.

In terms of hardware...I'm going to try and figure out what we have in common.
I'm on an Nvidia GTX570, which I'm using for both audio (HDMI) and video.
I have a GTS250 in my system for PhysX, but I've taken it out/disabled it with no changes.
I'm using my TV (Sony HX800) as my monitor, and I prefer to play at 1920x1080, but I'm more than happy at any 16x9 resolution. I get the jitters with ALL of them regardless of details...except when windowed.
I'm using both a Logitech mouse and keyboard and have disabled SetPoint to no avail, too.
I've got literally no start-up items and my background services are at an absolute minimum.

I don't think this is a hardware problem, or even a driver problem. It has something to do with the game's code regarding the mouse cursor.

After all, it affects AMD and Intel systems, AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, 32-bit and 64-bit systems, XP, Vista, and Windows 7, etc. All kinds of hardware and software configurations. The only common thread is they're all the PC version. Maybe they overlooked the cursor code because of the focus on the console versions?

That's definitely possible, but the skinned DA cursor looks/works fine for me when running in a window. Why does this seem to be an issue in full-screen only?

I'm in agreement.  After disabling ever single non-essential process I still have issues.

out of curiosity I tried it on my backup rig as well.   The issue was still present even on it.

backup specs:

Intel C2D e6750 @ 3.4GHz
Gigabyte EP45-UD3L
6GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
EVGA GTX 460 SC 768MB
WD 80/250GB Sata II
Kingwin Mach 1 600w
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP2
All drivers up to date, vid: 267.24 beta

I realize that game breaking bugs take precedence, I have no issue with that.  I do however think we at least deserve acknowledgement about this issue.  I see Bioware reps responding to threads regarding other issues, yet this one remains untouched.  I don't expect a patch to magically appear overnight, nor do I expect those working out bugs to drop everything and focus on our problem.  However, we purchased this product in good faith, because Bioware has always been a quality developer who has shown great interest in its community.  All we are asking for is some acknowledgement, that the issue is seen and will be looked into.

We support you with our hard earned money Bioware, please support us.

For me Window-Mode doesen't change anything, still stutter with mouse on screen.

I'm using the Steam-Version. Anyone here with stutter on the Disc-Version ?

@Mattousai
I agree, a simple "We are looking into it" from Bioware would be really appreciated...

Yeah, I'm also not looking for a magical patch tomorrow and I absolutely agree that the people who can't play at all should get their issues resolved first. It just seems weird that they haven't said anything about this at all.
What's odd about the issue for me is that I keep getting the feeling that there's something else at work - like doing some combination of settings or closing something or changing some ini value would fix it. Every time I try something I'm actually expecting it to work just because in other games it usually is something pretty simple.

Why no official word?

A "we're aware of this" or a "bug has been reported" would suffice!

I'm experiencing this lag effect too. Doesn't bother me as much as the rest of you guys as I usually have my finger pressed down on it 90% of the time I'm playing :P. It's still annoying though.

just a quick tip.. which might be old news.

We already know playing in a window fixes this, however I was having trouble seeing the quick bar at the bottom of the screen as half of it got cut off.

I can report that on Win 7 at least, if you play using DX11, the window is scaled better and doesn't cut off anything.

I have my desktop set to black, so the window bar at the top isn't that offensive in black. Recommend you do the same if you want to try it.

Right now seems the only workable work arond, and the game is perfectly playable

Window mode does not fix the problem.  It merely diminishes it.  At least for me, anyway.  You might have a more powerful rig than mine.

BioWare, acknowledge this.

Fair enough thenm and of course I echo that Bioware need to have a look at this, as it just feels like its a quick fix, an would make quite a few people happier.

I think there are varying degrees on this...but something tells me it's the same issues. For me, holding the right mouse button in DX9 full-on makes the game as smooth as silk, while in DX11 mode it helps, but isn't perfect. However running DX11 mode in a Window makes mine almost perfect (except the taskbar). DX9 mode is also more or less fixed in a Window, but performance isn't as good as DX11 ironically.

Hello everyone!

I seem to have the same problem though I somehow can play the game flawlessly with everything on highest with DX11 and AA on x4 (black shadow bug if set to x8) except from this fault. I did as some of you suggested and ran the game in windowed and it actually got worse! TWICE as worse! It doesn't seem to help when I lower the graphics settings either, the only thing that actually dimish my problem is unchecking Ambient Occlusion, High-Quality Blur and Depth of Field.

Would be very nice if BioWare at least could tell us that they're looking into it.

Specs:
ASUS Crosshair III Formula
AMD Phenom x4 955
EVGA GTX580 (OC)
Corsair TX750W
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Win 7 Pro x64 SP1
Nvidia 550Ti (modified inf) Drivers 267.59
Retail Version of the game installed on my System SSD

EDIT: I updated to the Nvidia 550Ti drivers (267.59) and I get way better fps on highest now, just a side note (still didn't fix this issue though). So if you're an Nvidia user you should try them out. :)

I too, am having this strange issue. It's really frustrating considering my computer can run it just fine otherwise. I did a little bit of research and noticed that the recent release of the Steam version of Neverwinter Nights 2 had a similar problem. It was attributed to quad-cores (and perhaps Steam). Are we all running with quad-cores and Steam? Does anyone have this problem with the box version or with a single or dual core? Someone ending up releasing a fan made patch to fix the NWN2 problem.

Windows 7 x64

Yeah, Steam quad core (i7 920) here. I'm *really* going to hope this doesn't have to be fixed by a fan patch.

I'm running a retail copy, so it's not related to steam. I am however running a quad, but my backup rig with a core 2 e6750 also has this issue.

Reported this when the demo was released. No response then either :-(
