I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and don't notice any FPS increase when holding right click. Had Fraps running to be sure.

ATI Radeon 6950 on driver 8.840.3.0 dated 2/26/2011 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit service pack 1.

sad it took a fellow forum user to let us know that,

i think it should be the Mods responsibility to seek similar threads and provide us the redirect
to the topic they start/decided to respond too

Yeah.  What's really sad is that this IS the original thread.

The fps doesn't change, but the playback of the character animations does. If you're getting 40-60+ fps you probably wouldn't notice the animations being choppy. It's more prominent when you're getting low fps to begin with (less than 30-40). Even if you don't notice it (I assume your 6950 keeps you well above 40 fps), it's probably still happening.

The animation choppiness goes away completely while holding down the right mouse button, or moving the cursor over the ability bar (regardless of the fps you're getting).

It's an odd problem for sure, but definitely not a figment of our collective imagination.

With a GTX 460 card, which is not the best but still decent I guess, I get a huge drop when going from High to Very High, with or without blooming effects etc. whilst on very high. Don't notice much of a difference either, except that it seems like my fps drops by half (don't have any tool to calculate it currently) and with the cursor on the screen everything becomes very choppy.

Also, anyone else noticing that faces become very, very blurry when you zoom them in if you have far-away-blurr activated?

So, no reply yet?

Why won't anyone from Bioware post in this thread?

The choppiness isn't really related to framerate. My framerate can literally be in the hundreds, but everyone has a certain "shaky" animation to them. If you look at the walls, it's as though your character is bouncing from one leg to the other and making everything jerky or the game is simulating a small earthquake.
I've tried to fix this using every setting I can think of and the best way to tell if you have the issue is to use your keyboard to move the camera left and right instead of holding the right mouse button. Using the keyboard gives you a VERY choppy/jerky mouselook, whereas in DA1 (and when I play DA2 in a window) it's as smooth as silk.

I also have this problem. It is rather annoying. Naming specs seems unnecessary, since it doesn't seem to matter for this problem.

Bioware, acknowledge this, or I will start calling you Blizzard!

I'm really starting to wonder why we haven't gotten anything yet they respond to ridiculous one-off posts more often than not. We're up to 5 full pages with nothing.
My guess is that this is going to be just like that NWN situation where it doesn't get fixed until some kind of community mod comes out.

lol i have the same effect. it's really funny.
happens mostly if I activate antialiasing and anisotropic filtering, the frame rate goes down a bit and when running around there are frequent stutters.
But if I hold right mouse button and look around while running it runs smoothly lol ^^.
I also get the freezes from time to time :-/
ati 5700 series and core 2 duo on win7 64 bit here btw.
other than that the game runs rly well and looks good

There are a few partial fixes depending on your set-up. Since I'm starting to doubt we'll ever get a real fix, here are some ways to alleviate things for others with this issue:

1. Try running the game in a window. For me this is a 100% fix, but it sucks running in a window, especially if you want to run the game in a window lower than your native resolution.

2. Hold the right mouse button all of the time. Not a real fix, but it does work.

3. Put your cursor over your abilities bar (or lower). Again, this should fix everything, but the instance your cursor goes back over that line the stutter will come back.

Oy, no need to start insulting.

Anyway, Bioware, it took 14 pages for you guys to reply to the slow-motion thread.

Do we also need 14 pages?

You and I paid $70.00 for a piece of software that doesn't work properly.  I asked them kindly to address the issue, simply to tell us that they're aware of it, ten days ago.  Ten.  I'm not asking for a magic wand.  I'm asking only that they tell me that they're aware of the issue.

hello,
I get exactly the same issue, but I am running the game on quite a lower-end machine (MSI laptop) so I thought it would be good to mention it as well since most of you people are using quite strong beasts

with DX9 shader on medium detail setting with everything else turned off I get the stuttery effect unless I hold the right mouse button and move the camera a bit, then the game runs quite smoothly

my specs:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
Intel Core i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
4GB RAM
