Because you haven't enabled it yet would be my guess.

IT DOES WORK, the text is simply invisible.

It's not working here either (edited shortcut file to provide command and binded the button to various keys).

Ok, how to activate the command console:

1• Edit (or create) the shortcut like this:
"C:\\Games\\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole

2• Edit the keybindings.ini file (found in the game folder My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\). Find the line OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave. Change "Grave" by the key you wish (example: OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X)

3• Go to "C:\\Games\\Dragon Age 2\\Data\\ folder an open DragonAge2launcher.xml file
Find this line:

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" />

Change it by:

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole;" autoquit="true" />

Done!

STEAM USERS:

1• Right click on the DA game on your steam list.
Select Properties.
Click set launch options.
type in: -enabledeveloperconsole

2• Follow the steps 2 and 3 (like regular users) remembering your files are in "\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\" folder.

Enjoy!

I think most peoples trouble with the console, is they are altering the key to use it, just add the enabledev stuff and go in game and press tilde, and it will work, cant see it yet since they yet again left a font out or something, but it works :P

It doesn't work at all for me. I double and triple checked the instructions and all of the coding.and followed everything from the wiki site. The console still doesn't want to work.

I just tested information Luisen75, which is basically the same as the link from VienxInq23, and it works for me. Now if we can just figure out the command for adding friendship to party members.

Ok, I found the problem, at least mine anyway. If the console still doesn't work for you try running the game as administrator. The console refused to work for me until I right clicked on the icon and selected "run as administrator". When I went into the game it worked perfectly.

One thing I tried was "runscript addtalent 200000" which if used before the year one cut scene is supposed to give you the rogue specializations. I'm playing a warrior but since I don't like any of the warrior specialization (beserker, templar and reaver) I thought it might be more fun to be a warrior/duelist. Except that it didn't work exactly as they said it would; I don't have the duelist or assassin specialization available.

On the plus side I did get the ability to pick locks and open traps. Which is pretty big since I hate switching to one of the rogue types just to have them do that stuff.

quick question guys, i honestly haven't been able to get the console to work with my version of the game (which i play via steam, which i have put in the -enabledeveloperconsole on the launch options). i have literally done everything that has been out there, including editing the XML file. all still to no avail. So is it just a steam thing or what?

My key binding:
OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X

and the edited XML file:
<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" arguements="-enabledeveloperconsole" />

If you are playing on a Vista or Windows machine, you will not be able to alter keybindings.ini if you used the default Program Files path to the game. If you haven't installed the game yet, you can just install it to something other than C:\\program files, like c:\\games.

I got the console working with steam only thing i did different to you was that i didn't change any key binding as its already set to the tilt key:wizard:

I don't recommend using it to get levels. I did it to find out level 50 was max level, but yeah... The difficulty of enemies is based on your level, making yourself level 50 with lvl 6 armor you will notice you have no protection at all, and no attack I think, and enemies will just stomp your face.

Dosn't work for me, even set it as Grave, Tilde, X, Ctrl-X, F10, pretty much any other key... Run steam as administer and still nothing, anything else that i haven't done?

I was wondering if there is a more complete item list or is a trail by error kinda thing. I've asked the great Google several time but no matter how much I specify, I never get a clear answer.
