Only medium settings?... I was hoping for better... If only i knew something about video card  i think i will buy a new one :P

Yeah the video card is the only real bottleneck.

The 8600GT is(or was by now) a mid-range card comparable to some of the higher-end 7xxx's - which are said to play medium settings fluently.

If you are uncertain about which card to get and do not know much, you are likely to make a bad choice or being screwed by a shop assistant when you ask - try giving a budget and you'll get some good advice on what to get.

Keep in mind that your computers power supply matters when moving to a more power hungry card.

Yep, the 8600GT isn't that great.
If you're planning to buy a new one, and you don't have that much money, look for the Ati HD5770. It's cheap, doesn't take much power and will eat DA:O fully and will still be hungry. Though, always check if your system supports it before buying ;)

Thx man for the advice!... but i have a big problem... How can I see if it's compatible with my PC? Sorry but i'm a big ****** with hardware...

Well, your motherboard will support it (PCI 2.0 slot), since the 8600GT is modern enough.

So that would just be your PSU. Shouldn't be much of a problem for the 5770, but you can post it if you want to be sure.

And a little reminder: the 5770 is very popular at the moment, so you might have to wait one or 2 weeks before you can get one. So you probably won't have it in time before the launch date.

You are my hero!!! :P

I just found ATI HD5770 1GB PCIE 2.0 HDCP HDMI in a net store, send at home in 3 days (i'm Italian, small country :P) i think i will buy it. Later i will check my PSU, if isn't enough i will buy a new one.

High, the official CPU requirements seem to be a bit higher than what the game really needs, but if you run into any limitations it'll probably still be mainly the processor.

How will this run?

Low-medium.  If you want to upgrade, it's your video card that's holding you back.

So need to get a new vid card. im not so great with pc hardware anyone have some advice for a upgrade that wont eat a hole in the wallet?

Thanks for the info, but possibly a silly question what do you mean when you say processor might bottleneck me at times?

Depends where you live.  Basically I suggest the 4670 or 9800GT (550mhz low-power version).

I've been told I should be very much good to go, but I'm chronically paranoid and definitely not exceptionally knowledgeable about computers.

Anyone more knowledgeable than me (wouldn't take much) have an opinion on these specs?

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CUP Q9550 @ 2.83GHz

Ram: 4.00 GB

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Platform: Windows Vista 64-bit Service Pack I

Thanks! Posted Image

Not sure about the graphics card, but i can run oblivion on max settings fine. And arkham asylum works well too on the highest settings.

Need to double-check my own specs before my copy arrives.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 2.7 Gh
3 GB RAM
NVidia 9800 GTX
XP 32 bit, SP3

Everything was rebuilt recently by myself and a mate, specifically due to both my GPU and CPU biting the dust at the same time. Had a power surge which didn't agree with my computer, so a rebuild was indicated. If anyone cares to give me a clue as to what sort of settings I can run this most amazing of games on, I'd appreciate it.

There is no desktop GS.. It's a GSO I guess?

Anyway high settings at most resolutions since the 9600GSO is basically a rebranded 8800GS.

Hey folks,

Well, it would appear that all my hopes and dreams have been dashed. My Desktop fried - long story - and I was forced to recently purchase a cheap laptop asap for work. I thought that I'd be able to run DA:O on it, but after reading the thread I now believe that will not be the case. In a last ditch attempt I figure I'd post my specs to see if some of you more computer savy people could confirm my tragedy - I need to have the stake driven fully into my heart so that I can finally admit to myself there is no use in holding onto hope.

Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX Notebook

AMD Athlon Dual Core QL-62 2.00 Ghz

2 gigs RAM

Vista 32-bit

And the killer: NVIDA Geforce 8200M G

I could (sigh) be wrong but the main issue seems to be my terribad graphics card yes? The character creation tool runs, but quite slowly.

I know the 8200M is an integrated video card... if it can't run the game (though I'd be exstatic to be able to run it at the lowest possible settings) is there anyway for me to replace it or *somehow* use an external card?

Any help/advice/ or a simple/knowledgable "nope yer **cked" would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Although it may be able to start the game, it would resemble a slide show more then anything on the lowest possible settings.

Wait until you can get another desktop before playing the game is my advice, the way the game will run will simply be too horrible to enjoy.

>< You dirty bastrard. lol
If this is a serious question, yeah, you can run the game at high/max settings no problem.
